Review How will Mark Neeld be Remembered?

stop talking crap, youve made your post and defended it (pat on the back)

I dream of a world where my four little children will be judged by the content of their posts, and not by the affiliation they have with a certain team. Then they can say:-
"FREE AT LAST! FREE AT LAST! GOOD GOD ALMIGHTY, WE ARE FREE AT LAST!"

Leave the guy alone FFS. He's always been a constructive poster on here. The holier than thou vibes are shit form.

I may disagree with him here, but that's the whole point.

He's a far more constructive poster than some of our own, dare we say it?

This is exactly why I don't think we will remember him

He'll be that seedy uncle we forget that we are related to and bad memories of him will be pushed to the back of our minds with plenty of alcohol and other related substances

Am imagining Neeldy as Uncle Buck now, wielding the drill, hitting a golf ball at a kid and driving one of those cars that backfires like a gunshot. Simply must be sh00ped!

Feels like we've done 'Who was worse; Neeld or Bailey?' topic to death about 1000 times. Answer - they were both crap in their own, special ways.

My brother has actually said every criticism I posted, so is he then mocking Melbourne?

I use him as a reference for all things Melbourne, so these are criticisms he has made.
C71 - you have had your airtime. While your points are not novel, they are not inaccurate.

Move on.

No. My brother is a long-suffering Dees supporter. He has followed them since 1988, and got to see constant finals the first few years, but much frustration since. He is also the most knowledgable people I know about many sports (football lover, cricket tragic, watched all of Bathurst, watches all the F1s, and knows a bit about tennis as well). So, I think he knows what he is talking about.

He hated Daniher's constant "They didn't come to play" excuse, and annoyed how they made finals, missed finals,(the yo-you effect) etc. Wooden spoons make him angry, so he has threatened to hold off getting a membership many a season. He didn't rate Bailey, and hated the tanking affair (he was livid after the 2009 game against Richmond). He was down on Neeld too, but gave him a fair go, and liked him more than Daniher (who he sees as a country hick and nice to players, and gave a spud like Alastair Nicholson too many chances) and Bailey (who he considers too feeble and soft on players). He also felt like the players are constantly let off the hook, and have excuses made for them, by the club and the media. Bad performances are never blamed on those who are doing the performing. He is currently upset that Paul Roos only wants to coach Melbourne for two years, feels that it will take more than two years to turn things around, and thinks that Roos is unethusiatic about the job, and has likened it to Malcolm Blight at St. Kilda, where he only do it for money. He sees Jack Watts as overrated, thought Sylvia was lazy, but is enthusiastic about Jesse Hogan, and is happy the club landed Bernie Vince.

So, yes, I rate highly my brother's thoughts on Melbourne. But I have gone to games myself, and seen how they have played. So, some of my knowledge is what I have observed with my own two eyes. I also listen to footy talk shows, and Neeld failing would have brought much gladness to the hearts of many footy journos. I don't think Neeld should have kept his job (he wasn't getting results), but I didn't like the unashamed glee some in the media seemed to have sticking the knife in.
from where I sit - you basically described most of us on this board.

How will Neeld be remembered? ....probably as a guy who received a nice fat pay cheque of $650000 as a parting gift and thank you for doing SFA. $650 K for doing nothing ....can you believe that?

...and really ...do you think Neeld gives a shit on how we think he will remembered?

please....

He's pretty much ruined any future chances of being a senior coach, so he'll never be on those dollars again. His career took a massive dent after getting the arse from us. Sure he got a nice payout, but longterm that isn't much compared to the loss of earnings that the damage to his rep will cause. Not saying he should be getting sympathy cards from us or anything, just that there is more to take into account than his payout upon getting sacked. He will be remembered as the worst coach in AFL history of the worst side in AFL history. Any senior coach ambitions he still has can be thrown out the window.

Also, the payout is as much the club's fault for buying into the Neeld hype and arguably not doing enough work in appointing a good coach post Bailey. Let it be a reminder of how screwed things once were.

Yes , we'll said. Must agree with you in that the club are as much to blame here. By the way, I wonder if Garry Lyon ever accept some degree of blame as well.

I don't know, Scott Watters is certainly doing his bit to Challenge Neeldy.

He probably did harbour delusions of being a premiership winning coach and all that, so let's not pretend it doesn't sting. He'll be having dark, introspective moments necking champagne in the jacuzzi at his beachside holiday house over the next few years.

Interesting read!

It's so weird to think Neeld came with such credentials and was spoken about so highly, yet fast forward 2 years and you couldn't get a more derided figure in footy. Whatever the situation is now, no one can argue that you are seemingly in a better position that you were two years ago, certainly in terms of having some stability and a platform to launch from.

Really wish you guys all the best for the coming season. As footy supporters, all we want is hope! To be able to turn up to a game and think we are a chance at winning, to be competitive and have the players play with the same hope and desperation that all the supporters have. Obviously you guys have had a torrid few years, but the AFL needs a strong Melbourne and I'm one of many opposition supporters wishing you all the best and 'hoping' that you can finally see some light at the end of what has been a tough tunnel.

Have a lot of respect for the Melbourne supporters who have still turned up to games, still supported the players and the club through this period. This will just make the good times even sweeter!!!

Go Dees14!!
