How will you remember Ben Cousins

Used to love the guy, but since finding out about his drug riddled life, cannot stand him now. I find his smugness too much to take. He'd be still a drug taking playboy if he didn't get caught out. Where's the apologies to his young fans who worshipped him in the Eagles days?

.

Didn't you watch the show last night ?

The bolded bit is spot on ..Cousins was a spoiled brat that grew into a egotistical arrogant prick ..he has never been told no in his lifetime..the whole Western Australia media and public thought he walked on water and he was treated like a demigod and he thought himself a king shit who was invincible .

I believe his arrogance will be his ultimate downfall .

Spot on mate:thumbsu:

there was a famous pyschology experiment done back in the 70's where a group of students were engaged in a two week role play of criminals and jail wardens - 1 group were the criminals, locked up in a pretend jail and the other group (both groups were all undergrad pysch students) were the wardens - the teacher had to call off the experiment after 5 days because of the pyhsical, sexual and emotional abuse the 'wardens' were dishing out to the 'criminals'...many other experiments have produced similar results - the lesson being that humans will act in highly unusual, unexpected and dysfunctional ways (violent, depraved, cruel, selfish etc) if placed in certain circumstances

here is an experiment - take a young man / boy, give him all his dreams on a plate, make him believe he is a god like figure with a god like body and looks, introduce him to drugs, show him that he can still perform at an elite level regardless and see what happens

it is easy to sit back and judge

Sadly with his footy career coming to an end Ben will return to his old lifestyle while he can afford it and then do sports mans nights when he is broke...

Just how the cycle goes....

At his best one of the top footallers in the country, brownlow winner and premiership winner. At the same time partying like a rock star. That would be most teenagers ultimate fantasy. So I'll remember him in 3 words:
Lived the dream

How will I remember Ben Cousins?

Ben Cousins was my teen idol. I had his posters all over my bedroom as a 16 year old, I have saved them in a scrapbook, that I was almost ready to post back to him 3 years ago when things really started to unravel, like it would somehow bring him back to the ground with a thud.

I was horrified watching last night, I would never have imagined that my teen idol could have been that far gone in a lifestyle that has never existed for me. Its so so very sad I think for a generation of footy fans, to see this side of cousins, and see the superhero myth of their teenage idol dispelled. Just goes to show that none of us are infallible.

So I will remember Cuz as the reason I went to the footy, to see a great player playing for a great team, like Gary Ablett Snr and Wayne Carey before him. My hope is that he doesn't relapse, and is able to stay straight and teach a whole new generation of players everything he knows about footy. Imagine what a treat we're in for if he can.

Ben Cousins?

Barring Richardson and J.Brown my favourite player outside Essendon along with Hayes.

Remember the late 90's when he was just starting off and you could tell that he was going to be a superstar. By the early 00's he was an absolute machine.

I remember watching the 05 and 06 GF's and even though I was behind Sydney, due to the fact I played the majority of my junior football at South Melbourne Districts, somewhere inside me I wanted Ben to get that gold medal around his neck.

I'll remember him as one of the greatest and heart working players that I've ever seen. That comeback game against Sydney was just ridiculous when he racked up 38 odd possesions from memory. One of the most dominated games from a player I've seen in recent times.

Good luck to him in the future, hope he doesnt replase as it will probably be the end of him.

As a champion player, a drug addict who did a lot of good by putting his story on the line, a great bonus for the Tiges this year, hot as hell and not as bulletproof as he may have thought.
HOpe he has a great future and thank him for two great years with us!
Bring on Sunday :thumbsu:

Now he's retired this is the main test of his life, to stay clean. He is such a strong person when he trains he must surely have the obsessional power to stay right forever.
Lets hope he knows what he's been through and won't go there again. I'd like to think he will.
Also he is one bloody fantastic footballer , remember him for that.

I feel for him and his family about his drug addiction and the obvious struggles that lay ahead of him. However after openly admitting that he has been taking drugs since he was 17 and played the system untill finally the drug taking over took his life and turned into a serious addiction I do beleive the AFL have been made to look stupid and a toothless tiger on drugs in sport.

In the documentary when he was commentating on his own behaviour it seemed more like he was still trying to justify to everyone that he wasnt hurting anyone and he was just having a good time.

The only time it seemed to dawn on him that this may have ruined his footballing career was after he shaved his head to avoid a drug test.

I really feel for the guy and while I dont understand the ins and outs of full on drug addiction and relapses I do feel the guy should be banned from playing a final game this weekend. He does not deserve it. under the drugs code a confession is as good as a positive test and should be dealt with. The sad thing is it seems the AFL want to use him as a poster boy for its drug policy which if anything the documentary showed it has its merits, however he also showed he can play the system to beat it. So how many players on 2 strikes are playing the system?

I also have firm beleifs he didnt entirely tell the entire story either with his drug taking fearing repercussions from the AFL and or Richmond. Put it this way in 2006 there are so many suspicious games from Ben Cousins especially in the finals that still raises a few eye brows. He outright denied he took drugs before games or during games but if you dig deep enough in AFL circles that might not be entirely accurate. But they will never be proven.

I was 16 when he first started playing AFL and to me its a big kick in the guts for everything you beleived is built on a lie. I will forever remember him as a drug cheat.

I feel more for Bryan than I do his "son".
That man tried everything for him and spoke on his behalf while Cousins was going around with that smirk on his face.

What a prick to put his old man through that.

The bastard that stopped us winning back to back flags.

Serious though, I do feel for him. It's amazing he came back to play after going through all that. Thumbs up to the Tigers for giving him the chance.

Self serving narcissistic vermin.

Poor little benny, the big bad AFL almost stopped you from playing football because you wee a total drug cheat ... boo hoo! and only your organised crime mates understod.

Life is so hard when you can get get everything you want immediately.

What an open sewer.
