Yep, what ever Adcock is doing isn’t working. Also, what qualifies a person who played his entire career as a defender to be a "Forward Coach"?Someone other than Jed Adcock as forwards coach as their accuracy has been deplorable. Lynchy? Bernie Quinlan? Daniel Bradshaw?

Could always tell when Lynchy was going top miss. He would lay back when he kicked. Got that out of his action and off he went.So I have this theory that to play AFL you have to be OK at it. You know... decent like. Like have skillz and stuff. Kicking and things.
And I also have this theory that AFL teams usually employ people who are OK at their jobs and stuff... you know, sort of know what they're doing. Like coaching and learning stuff to the players like.
Now I can't actually verify any of this but I'm also suspicious that these same people may or may not have wondered this very same thing. How come these people who play the game can kick all of these goals in all of this training that we do with all of these insane ideas and drills we have - and yet still f**k it up when it counts?
Seriously now, I'll bet the boys kick at amazing accuracy in training. And nothing we do or suggest here will change that. I'd even bet that they've tried most of these ideas (well bar screwing with their heads ala Adelaide).
This very same topic raged for ages during the 01,02,03 years. Lynch went through a period where he couldn't hit the side of a barn with a shot gun. I personally wanted him to kick all day every day and screw his CF - he could sleep after the premierships. Bradshaw was the same - bloody awful at times. Browny was cr*p too for a while there.
All forward lines are the victims of their own headspace from time to time. Hell Matthews used to send Leppa back down the forward line during the really bad games to straighten things out a bit.
The one thing that is certain is that this phase will pass. It always does. Maybe not this week or next but it will. The boys have the skills and do the training. It just needs to click. And like being sh*thouse is contagious, so is being brilliant. Once it catches on it has a mind of it's own.
If we make too big a deal out of this all we do is just extend the period of pain.
Trust they can execute because they can. Only time will get them to trust that they can - that's the hard part.
The yips are due to a dysfunctional forward line without any focal tall forward targets. Lack of a tall focal point means a lot more shots on the run, under pressure and from wide angles. All low percentage. A small forward (Charlie Cameron) cannot be the primary focal point.
Hipwood should be the focal point by now - he has enough talent - but clearly it doesn't look like he has spent much time in the gym the last few years. If you put him next to Max King you'd think it was Hipwood who was the first year player, not the other way around.
It's disappointing because it seems as though the other young blokes - Andrews, McCluggage, Rayner, Witherden - have done the hard work in the gym over the preseasons - but Hipwood has not.
Not sure what the answer will be as I don't think there's much upside from Hipwood this season (and unless he bulks up his full potential may never be realised). McStay will help but has his own issues in front of goal. McInerny has been good as a 3rd target / resting forward ruckman. Hopefully one of the other young blokes can step up.
I reckon if we can find a focal tall forward, it will straighten us up, make Charlie even more effective and create a lot more dangerous opportunities for the midfielders going forward. That will sort out the yips.
It’s so glaringly obvious, it’s hard to ignore.ignore it and it will go away.
A defender would know how to beat a forward. Of course, this gets into stuff like structures, winning one-on-ones, etc, moreso than the actual act of goalkicking.Yep, what ever Adcock is doing isn’t working. It's like arguing that Fagan can't coach at the AFL level having never played at it.A defender would know how to beat a forward. Of course, this gets into stuff like structures, winning one-on-ones, etc, moreso than the actual act of goalkicking.
But, more importantly, line coaches are rarely "you coach the line you played". In terms of your career you've got to circulate the field to demonstrate your chops across the board, so it's not uncommon to find line coaches who were previously players out of position. Coaching your former position is just not the rubric.

Correct. It's like arguing that Fagan can't coach at the AFL level having never played at it.
On the other hand, it's probably actually true that Hipwood might benefit from playing a few games for the Fagan's hometown side. It's like arguing that Fagan can't coach at the AFL level having never played at it.

We will probably be a competitive ‘also ran’ team that will make prelims and maybe even the big dance but probably won’t win a premiership unless we got really lucky (like Bulldogs 2016 or Bombers 1993) - will bring us a lot of joy along the way (and already has from where we were) but probably not premiership gloryAnd if we can't?
