Rumour Hugh Greenwood waiting to re-sign!

Hugh left money on the table to try his hand at footy

Clearly the right situation for him matters a lot more than just dollars and cents. Wise man

He’s in a good place with a club that has nurtured and developed him, believed in him

All that’s needed is for the club to believe in him sufficiently with a proper contract, something that he deserves and has earned, and it should be fine

Don’t play silly games offer him a contract that all parties can live with and move on.

Is that based on the assumption he could've forged a career overseas?

I'm assuming most AFL players would be on a lot more than the average NBL player - unless you mean he took a step backwards to take two steps forward?

He signed a contract in the NBL that was on decent money, more than we were offering

Very much a step backwards hoping to take a couple forward

I doubt he’s going to be stupid about it now, but he deserves a good contract

If you’ve been an AFC supporter over the last few years, you would simply assume it’s true and start talking about trade options.

And if it ends up being false then happy days
Pretty much. I just always assume they're gone now. Will be a shame to lose him. As a cat-B rookie he was basically a free swing anyway so it's not worth getting worked up over. Hoping we can get some kind of compensation though.

I recommend not being sentimental about players when you're an Adelaide fan. This is just a job to these people. You can try to delude yourself into thinking otherwise. Hell look at our neighbours for example. They're still stuck in that pre-90's suburban league mindset that it's all about "playing for the jumper" when the reality is this is a national competition with a draft and half the guys on your list probably grew up in other states, barracking for other teams.

Sloane would have gotten much more money at the Saints, also Dangerfield would have been on $1.5M per year instead of $800K at Geelong if he chose not to go home but another Melbourne club, there are some players that don't just case the money.....very few but some are still left.

if this club manages to lose another player of this calibre close up shop

Our culture won't change whilst we have the same conservative board in place. We exist to be competitive rather than strive for ultimate success, its how we have rolled for 20 years.

Some players we be put off by this, some wont.

We are all different and different things upset/worry us.

I thought there was some report that he got about $100k as a rookie. I think there was an element of prising him from basketball.

Surely the only link here was that he played, or was going to play, for the Perth Wildcats in the NBL. Tenuous at best.
He didn't really play either, he left as soon as we offered a deal.

I love Greenwood, but we are about to hit rebulid mode, if he wants to go, and we can get a good pick for him, then we gotta do it.

Same with Jenkins, how good has Himmelberg looked with a solid run of games imagine giving Davis, McHenry McAdam and Fogarty more game time.

We arent going to win a premeirship this year or next, it time to sell off some players that hae value and invest in youth.
About to hit rebuild mode? Really?

Rumour at the time was he'd been told he was getting into the Boomers squad, then Lemanis picked Cameron Gliddon and Adam Gibson ahead of him, which is what caused him to quit the Wildcats and join us. I don't think he had much interest in playing in Europe, though he could have made decent money there, so without being able to showcase his skills for the national squad he was probably fighting an uphill battle to make it to an NBA team which was his dream and where the big $ are for basketball.

Danger may only be making $800K playing for the Cats, but they're making it up to him in other ways so he doesn't lose out.

I'm more worried about Keath tbh.

We've got about 60 midfielders coming through who we won't give a game except on a forward flank

Are you saying the premiership window is wide open for the next 3 years with the list we have?
No one knows the list we have because we haven’t played them.

But what we’ve seen is ROB and Himmelberg step in for Jacobs and Jenkins very well.

We’ve got talent in the SANFL that needs to get a go.
