That's where my head is at the moment.

If the club is honest and believes that they're not a premiership calibre squad then it needs to make some hard calls.

If Freo hypothetically were to offer pick 11 or 12 for Greenwood the club needs to look at whether to take it and go to the draft with 3 picks inside the top 25 (Pick 1-3 from Carlton, 12 from Freo and Carlton's 2nd round pick) and load up on talent.

Those three players together with Milera, Fog, Jones, McHenry would provide a good group of youngsters to build a side around and if we look at trying to pinch Grundy we could be staring down at possibility of a quick rebuild.
If the club believed that we would have let sloane go last year and used the picks we received to get luko and rankine

This time last year we were having a horror run with injuries and the club still believed that we were in the premiership mix.

We all hoped that if we could keep Sloane and get our injury list in check that things would just all fall into place this year.

Clearly that's no longer the case.

12 months on and it's clear that we're not in the hunt anymore.

We have three options;
  • Go the Geelong route and try to recruit our way back into contention
  • Follow in Neil Craig's footsteps by clinging to dear life to the fortunes of aging players hoping for a miracle
  • Proactively start to rebuild before we go over the cliff.
I am not saying that we should get rid of Greenwood, but I do think if he wanted to leave and we get a good offer for him it would be incredible remiss of the club not to seriously consider it.

Obviously if we get a strong offer for a player then we should consider it. The problem is, we're not going to. Greenwood is a great player but he's not established yet as the star we know he is. Any trade offer we get for him is going to be less than his value.

If he wants to leave, obviously that's a different story. Then we need to maximise our return, whatever it may be.

We wont get much more than a third rounder for him.

Adelaide BF posters are more knowledgable than all afl clubs

If he continues on with his current form for the rest of the year we would get around pick 17/18. Nothing higher. Hopefully he stays.

The concern is he continues with his body concerns and clubs will not pay much for him knowing he has issues taking the field and fitness, but then again should we move him on knowing those concerns aswell

It also depends on what the club he may go to, if he was to go, offers him...

That can’t exactly offer him a $600k or more contract and then turn around and say he’s not worth much at the trade table..

Anything less than $600k and the crows would probably be willing to say to him “we’re willing to negotiate and come to an arrangement that gets you close to what you want Hugh”... and then he would have to consider whether he wants to uproot his life and move interstate for only an extra bit of cash..

Other sides wont rate him as high as us.

He does not present as one if our best players even though he is important to us.

Be surprised if he was offered much more than $600k.

This is why I can't see him going. We should be able to pay him this.

You need to be careful with offering big $$ to players who struggle with fitness and body concerns
I personally think he is a $500-$550k player. On par with Jenkins.

Which will be about $250k above the average AFL salary next year.

The big question for greenwood is his body has struggled at a younger age, how will it go getting older has anyone on here tried playing at 30, it gets harder and harder
