Heard today Luke Schilg and Brandon Matthews have signed with BB Saints. Would definately be favourites now.

Spoke to a bloke at Lavy this morning. Schilg is a confirmed departure, off to BB Saints.
However nothing was said about Matthews!

AND NOP - BB were a fair way behind you blokes at the top of the ladder, do you think for sure that they are contenders?
The reason i say this is, they were what....4 games out of finals?? and whenever they played the top teams were shown that they were a long looonnnngggg way behind, and usally got their arse's handed to them..

Culcairn seem to be recruitng strongly again - ironically 3 comitee members told me last year that they would not be spending up becuase it was time to give their local kids a go who were becoming disgruntled seem's to me that the comittee dont have much say at Cul (no surprises there ) stay tuned more signings to come at the lions den and local kids better get used to playing in the two's.

Talk is that Culcairn may have had 10 or more departures from last years seniors, so unless they sign several more there may be plenty of room for the locals. Any truth in the rumour that Walla are close to signing one M. Klemke as non playing coach

If all this talk about the saints signing schilg and matthews is correct, they are going to have a very handy side. Pressure on them to perform is mounting with the large amount of cash they must be spending. Supporters and committe would be hoping for the ultimate result.

i believe mathews has recently committed to staying at lavington but heard a whisper the BB's have their eyes on 2 more established O&M players ...

Good luck to the saints with there recruiting. But i hope they are not out spending themselves. i'd be nervous signing there now or being a contracted player on the lower end that there will be enough money to go around at the end of year. Unless of course Colin Joss has moved to Burrum. Lets hope for their sake this isn't going to be all or nothing year, longevity success should be their long term aim.

Who has Howlong got to get them up a grand final, & don't you think that BB has a draw that has to get them into the finals at the very least.

walla has no gains and a lot of losses. prob need the coach to bring a dozen just to be competitive, not sure where u will pick up that many when its already feb. Who have the spiders picked up besides kohelor?

It's fantastic to see the BB Saints get up and going again and the best of luck to them.
As for their players being worried about getting paid just remember that they haven't spent a lot since the merge and they also possess one of the best fund raisers going around in country footy, their annual sportsman's lunch. That would have to be a big money spinner and there would have to be a bit sitting in the bank.
Anyone who has followed the Hume FL for the past 10-20 years would have to remember the Howlong and Jindera teams of the mid 90s and how they struggled. Jindera couldn't pay anyone at one stage including the coach. Sometimes you have to spend a bit to make a bit and with some smart management at the top it doen't take long to get a club back on track. The big challenge is once their up there to keep them there and have sustained success. Hopefully the Saints can get up to and stay in that Jindera/Howlong bracket for a period of time.

How's everyones training coming along ?
Getting close to only 5-6 weeks from practice matches commencing, and being 68 days from Round 1 most clubs would be starting to work on game plans and structures one would assume. Not asking to divulge "secret" :D info, just hopefully getting some discussion flowing. :thumbsu:

No boys that is not true I can confirm that both Gilson and chow Brown will be at Cul this year , Gilson has committed and Brown is thinking of returning to Albury to live and more signings will follow next week...:thumbsu:

Wrong coach, chow and shan both playing in melbourne. Fact.

BB getting good numbers so to are Howlong. Who are the track burners at each club at this point of the pre-season?

can only speak for jindera FF i'm sure i'll be corrected if wrong. Numbers been solid, doing a lot of running under Daisy. We did the beep test last night with most players around about the level 10 to 11 mark. we had tommy gunn and Boxhead over 12 and a young fella from the thirds at about 13. Not 100% sure of exactly what practice matches we have. Think we have Coolamon and also heard about playing Thurgoona.

Shannon Gilson committed to Culcairn this week & Chow Brown still unsure as he looks likely to move to Canberra with employment. Training numbers have been low, up to 20, with Hunter, Schulz, Baker & Field setting the pace. Wizard Barber & Chad Willis havnt missed a training.

Just about spot on there with the practice matches PP defenitely going to Coolamon and playing Thurgoona night before the Gold Cup.
To reply to Straughnys comment about game plans i think this year clubs will focus a fair bit more on accountability as oppose to the beginning of last season.
First thing i noticed within the first few weeks last year was how unaccountable the footy was but i think a few of the coaches picked up on it as well and it definately become tighter later in the year, which i think was indicative of the fact that there was less blow outs in scores.

will be a ripper of a season though with no less then about 5 or 6 teams capable of winning it.

A thread dedicated to the Hume League? Wow!

I used to play for Walla, many years ago. Not living in the area anymore I had no idea of the changes to the league.

Although, I heard about it, I didn't hear much.

Walla don't have a coach? I should come back and coach them.

Heard Holbrook signed Toddy Miller from Thurgoona. Handy pick up for the brookers... Also heard on the grapevine that Hayden Coulson from Culcairn is set for a big season up in the front bar of Brady's!
