I know they're no longer in the Hume league and weren't here for long, but this article will interest quite a few people on here - especially the old CDFL clubs.

Rennie has jumped around leagues with the nimbleness of its grasshopper mascot in the past two years to end up in the south-east conference of the Picola and District Football League.
But the club comes into the Goulburn Murray football fold with a stable history by comparison to the teams that merged time and again until its former home, the Coreen and District Football League, could no longer operate.
Rennie was admitted into the Picola league by the barest of margins after nine clubs voted to split the competition into two conferences in November last year. It had spent one season in the Hume Football League between Coreen disbanding and the Picola admission.
Mergers to try and keep existing clubs alive crippled the Coreen league.
"Four teams had become one, then six teams became two teams, we were just left with not enough," Gleeson said.
"It got down to five clubs and it just wasn't viable."
Jerilderie made the immediate jump into the Picola league last year while Rennie took the long haul north-east into the Hume Football League.
The Grasshoppers were expecting to drop into a conference with the likes of NSW clubs Berrigan and Jerilderie as opponents when the Picola league split did go through.
Instead it will play powerhouses Shepparton East, Tungamah and Katandra among others.
Cub secretary Cyndi Gleeson isn't complaining, saying a challenge on the field is far more favourable than a challenge to take the field.
"If the Hume league hadn't taken us in we would have disbanded," Gleeson said.
"If we'd taken a year off like Buraja we'd have never come back, just like them."
"I was stunned," president Michael Sandral said of his club being allocated to the stronger conference.
"But we had to go this way for the long term."
The majority of Rennie's road trips last season were more than 100 km to destinations such as Henty and Holbrook.
This season the relatively light trip of about 110 km to Shepparton East will be as far as Rennie goes.
On the banks of Lake Mulwala is the turn-off for Rennie, a signpost signalling 20 km to the town.
It's a solo, unmarked road, with flat land all around bar the odd silo.
"There is no population here, there's a pub that closed in 2000 and a silo," Gleeson said.
"We draw from a big community up to Savernake, Berrigan and around Corowa" Sandral, who estimated the Rennie population to be single figures, said.

I say good luck to the Hoppers. It's going to be tough for them in that conference, but I will be watching them closely and hope they go well.

hows everyones pre-season progressing. I hear the Tigers are working hard and well into the evening. Down at the kennell we've been working hard with plenty of the young blokes leading the way, the new recruits seem to be fitting in nicely and moving well. After seeing them on the track looking forward to seeing how they go. How good is it footy season just around the corner gotta love it!!

Thanks Here It Is. Thought we might get to play our NSW mates (Berrigan and Jerilderie) but it was not to be. Just glad we're in a comp where we think the club has a better chance of survival. No easy games in the South East PDFL though. Having said that, we don't think any of those clubs are at the strength of your Osbornes, Jinderas or Culcairns either! Plans are already underway for a practice match against your old mob in March. Good luck to the old Coreen League Clubs in 09.

Hows everyones preseason training numbers going?
And when are the pre season matches starting? who is playing who?

Word is CDBU strong numbers training at corowa, Howlong averaging 25 to 30 with a lot of young blokes, Walla had 8 this monday struggling to get more than 12 or so, Jindera good numbers also a few young blokes, BBS high 30's dont know about the quality !

What is going on out there.. surely there is a reason for only getting eight

Nar just Banks, Fulton has signed with Yack. Still tho the spide's shouldnt be to bad this season, probably there-abouts again. The didnt trouble the big 3 (Jind, Osb, Cul) in any of their games last season and from memory got an absolute dicking by the Dogs down at the web late in the season so maybe need 1 or 2 more quality players to be a real force one would think but they r headin in the right direction it seems :thumbsu:

Lavy are'nt looking after their young players, so the district clubs bill benifit.

Please explain.... what age young players are we talking about?

Do you mean Lavi are not looking after their young players because they're are not paying them well enough.... OR
not looking after them by not giving them enough of a chance....
OR something else???

One reason a handful of players leave the LPO for district clubs at the end of most seasons could have a bit to do with the fact that quite a few of the district league clubs have ex-Lavi players as their coaches. Perhaps not as many this year, but in years gone by there has been as many as half of the hume league teams being coached by ex players.

Going back through your posts you seem to have a fair bit of knowledge on Almo and combined with your above comment it seems you may have been a disgruntled ex Lavington player who has headed out to Howlong last year.
The younger Lavi players played in Grand Finals last year-the majority in the reserves but had a tremendous year.I know every man and his dog had cracks at recruiting a lot of their younger players and not one of them moved. They love it there-only departures locally are Banks and Fulton who i wouldn't class as "younger players".(Banksy looks young but that is due to many years of pampering;facials and moisturising cream and a g/f who is a hairdresser keeping him looking at his best)

If you are speaking about Warren-Marmo-RWT will find out his worth by about rd 10.Kid is what 18 and has played at differnt footy and cricket clubs in past 3 yrs.

Maybe you could have worked a bit harder for a game instead of haeding bush and making comments on stuff you and i have no idea about-whether a club is looking after players or not.Unless you are at that club you dont really know.

I've heard it from plenty of people... i'll be around the joint somewhere, but whether i'll be holding the magnet board for the 2's is not clear. Might help someone else if they do it!

I've also been offered the under 13's job, so i'm weighin up my options.

Not even sure if he would be interested.

He's far to good to be coachin down here. i heard a whisper the other day that he might be travellin down the highway to help dean bailey out at the demons....they rate him very highly :thumbsu::thumbsu:

Well we know for certain that due to the economic financial crisis that Bahry wouldn't take on a job for anything less than 10k, so juniors wouldn't be an option!

In fact regardless of an economic financial crisis Bahry purely and simply wouldn't do juniors.

The 53 year old is still living the dream!!!!!!!!

Does anyone know of any practice matches Hume league clubs are playing? Especially R/W and Howlong who are both talking themselves up as premiership contenders:)

They both have really good draws which will give them at least 10 wins each, this gives them both a real good chance of playing finals , as for being premiership contenders, i would like to see the coming and going of the two clubs. My gut feel is that both won't have enought comings to give them some quality depth to be in the top five. Jindera, Culcain, Osborne, Holbrook & Lockhart.
