I always took the Nation of Islam to be a pretty conservative group. Correct me if I'm wrong but their deep anti-semitism and black nationalism would make them rather right-wing, wouldn't it? I guess when those are combined with their Islamic beliefs, the group could be intuited as conservative. I can see the other side being fighting for civil rights, which is intrinsically linked to liberal principles.

I guess these sort of show the pitfalls of trying to label groups or people as one or the other.

Malcolm was ultimately killed by the NOI but i agree they are right wing, i have had this discussion on this forum before but the Panthers are left wing and the NOI quasi-fascist imo, but at the time of X's death he was espousing very left wing politics which is partially why the NOI had him killed.

There's still a problem in most religions regarding gays, the Muslims are hardly orphans there. The right wing only ever care about homos when it comes to the treatment of them by Muslims, this is quite literally the only time, for the rest of the time they are either indifferent, or openly hostile. It's absurd.

There are many people who don't know it's an issue, and also many who have their heads in the sand when it comes to tolerance of homosexuals in the Islamic community.
Also, I never said the left stopped his march, I said they were the ones who initially opposed it by screaming racist instead of participating in an open dialog like normal people would.

Sure it's legal, but that doesn't necessarily mean the majority of the public treat them equally and with full respect. As far as I know, no Muslim majority country has plans to legalise gay marriage any time soon, nor is there a massive push for it by the majority of the population like you see in Western/majority Christian countries like Australia.

Amazingly, I know so little about NOI or Malcolm X. I've never ever bothered watching the famous film. I only known that they seemed to support a self imposed segregation rather than what one which was forced upon them. It seems noble in itself to take control of the segregation and use it as a source of power.
Even the Panthers I'm pretty oblivious to disregarding a few documentaries of Tupac where they brush over his parents' history.
