Amazingly, I know so little about NOI or Malcolm X. I've never ever bothered watching the famous film. I only known that they seemed to support a self imposed segregation rather than what one which was forced upon them. It seems noble in itself to take control of the segregation and use it as a source of power.
Even the Panthers I'm pretty oblivious to disregarding a few documentaries of Tupac where they brush over his parents' history.

NOI are like you say black separatists and believe they need their own black nation exclusive of whites. Pretty much on par with most white nationalists, just more intelligent and within a much tighter organisational structure.

Panthers believe in black nationalism but to the point that they believe black communities should have black cops, teachers etc that represent their communities, but shouldnt exclude white people. They are socialists.

Historically anyway.

Look at the religious affiliations of those blocking gay marriage in his country. When will we see gay marriage in Australia?
I was thinking about this earlier. I can imagine that this is the last bastion of conservatism. Ironically, in the current state of society, I also wonder if the left, as it is today, will become disorganised once it's fully accepted.

For the religious right, it's almost the death knell for everything they had to be 'good' and to be 'true' (in some weird, perverted manner). What other institutions will they have left to symbolically defend? There'll be no tenets of religiosity that remain unlegislated against, following the legality of abortion, and gay marriage.

On the other hand, the left is no longer the radical left of the 20th century. There are fewer 'battles' to fight. In a subjective sense, I consider the left to have once been a proud underdog that managed to overthrow large swathes of corrupt South America and help defeat imperialism, to have won equality for the LGBTI community and to have fought back against the growing fundamentalist states of the Middle East (until the US decided to destroy that dream).

This nobility that I associate with the left of yore appears to have been corrupted now. It seems to have been diluted and institutionalised into something that allows people to take offence, rather than debate something on merit. I think it's quite possible that the 'radical' left is long gone as we are approaching a time where there are only details to rectify, rather than the same ideological battles of the 20th century. I note that the term 'details' may seem offensive to some, but I believe that debating about 60 different genders is a different kettle of fish than prior battles of left v right in history.

It's been explained clearly time, and time, again that there are issues about consent that make those two absolutely nothing like gay marriage. Surely you can see that?

Its largely a revenue problem not a spending problem.

Have you got a chart showing govt revenues over the last 10 years mapped against expected revenues from each budget for those years?

I dont think the revenue is the problem. Its the inflated planned revenue being used to fund the actual spending that is the problem. Revenue goes up but not by the crazy numbers in the budget.

For a long time now Treasury has allowed unrealistic growth expectations which has allowed ridiculous spending.

They should have the balls to say no. But they are highly paid and do the bidding of their masters.

Spot on. We are collecting less revenue than we thought we would, every year.

Theres a variety of reasons for it but total spending isnt the problem. Where we spend is a problem.

Oh they know the revenue projections are crap.

Swan declared a budget surplus hundreds of times and even sent leaflets to his electorate. He knew it was crap.

Morrison today does the same thing.

When the Libs came in Hockey handed Treasury billions for no reason and Abbott hand picked a new Secretary from the UK.

Im pretty sure they didnt do this for no reason.

"The left is emotional and bows to political correctness". Whaddya mean they burned the flag? WHADDYA MEAN HE DIDNT CRY FOR THE LAST POST. ANZACS.

"Stupid left wing elitists". 1. *Votes for party/ies led by investment bankers and billionaire real estate moguls* 2. Shares columns by millionaire columnists for wealthiest media empire in world criticising elites*

I'm choosing to believe Werewolf was kicking back with rod and reel waiting for a bite on that juicy worm/comment. Comment makes no sense in real terms otherwise!

This is the sad thing, and one of the reasons I was glad the whole plebiscite thing didn't happen. This argument, and plenty of others with a fairly dubious provenance like it would have been bandied around by the those opposing SSM, and we've seen a couple of elections recently where some fairly dodgy claims got a lot more airtime than they deserved, and perhaps had an influence on the result.

My beliefs are mostly libertarian, so choices like abortion, euthanasia, vaccinations, marriage, etc. should be left to the individuals. Gay marriage I have no issue with other than terminology, the equal legal rights stuff is perfectly fine.

Agree that the plebiscite is a waste of money BTW

Some people have pushed for a pre-school age of consent. It won't fly, but there are people mad enough to support it!

What is the terminology? And who is pushing for sex with pre-schoolers? That sounds like auto lock up to me.

Terminology means marriage by another name since new words are still being invented, but bear in mind (1) I'm not religious and therefore not invested in opposing it and (b) there are literally a million things more important to worry about.

I don't have the source(s) at hand, but you'll surely find them if you go looking.
