Didnt we pick up a bargain when we picked Daniel Rich?

He looks to be miles ahead of all the other draft picks from last year.

Last Monday I got to watch the number 1 pick in Jack Watts play and thought wtf? I wasn't impressed with him, yes I know its early days but I guess the lions have been spoilt by talent in the past 2 year I mean last year it was Bradd Dalziell who looks to be on track to be a great footballer in years to come and this year we of course we have Daniel Rich who looks like he has been playing for 10 years!

Tonight the number 2 draft pick Nic Naitanui is playing But to be honest I dont think he will match it with D rich though.

This a big call I know but unless theres another player that can match it with D. rich talent wise Daniel has the NAB Rising Star Award in the bag.

You do realise Browny racked up stats of 0 kicks, 0 handballs and 0 marks in his debut? May have even given a free kick away. "wtf" indeed.

Sorry to pick on this section of the post and yes, we're all happy with Rich, but including this in your post detracts from the overall tone and has the potential to start a shit-fight with any Melbourne supporters who happen to wander on our baord.

"Winning" the draft, if there is such a thing, doesn't happen 'til 10 years down the track.

Watts will be a star. His performances in the Under 18 Championships were incredible, kid has all the attributes and the right attitude. Dees just threw him to the wolves far too early. Like Belgo said... if you judge key position prospects after one game, you'd have thought we had done our dough with Browny. Key position players take time.

Can't wait to see NicNat tonight. The phrase "could be anything" gets thrown around alot, but he really could be anything. Leaps opposition ruckmen in a single bound, chases and tackles like a hungry panther.

As for Rich, I can't say anything new that I haven't already said in my signature and roster watch.

We can all be gracoius about other clubs draft picks but the reality is some are not up to it and others fail because they are injury prone. Daniel Rich was the standout recruit for this year but was an example of everyone following the crowd." He was too developed at 17 therefore his performances were discounted" or how about "He has short arms". Yet his timing, ball handling, skill, maturity are outstanding. Plus he can kick like a mule.( Somebody should study how he kicks, should be taught at Auskicks).

Yep, at 17 he was awesome. At 27 he will be an icon.

Sorry, I thought it said Lionshine.

Yes we do wander around us melbourne supporters a bit :D
Yes that Rich is a good pick up, should be a goer, looks alot like our man Mitchell. Anyway good luck Sun. Cheers

Here is a lesson in the value of Rich.

Only had 11 touches today and still racked up 102 supercoach points.

Here is why.

- 9 of those 11 possessions were contested.

- Only one of his disposals was inefficient (wasn't a clanger though) 91% efficiency.

- 4 of his disposals were clearances.

- 8 Tackles.

- 4 of them were inside 50.

- One was a direct goal assist.

- One was a goal from outside 50.

- He had 4 free kicks paid to him because he is a hard little shit!

What a champion he is going to be after a couple more pre-seasons and gets a midfielders tank in him.

But, but, but...

He's peaked

Fact is we have the best first year player but other draft picks will catch up to him as they mature. Let's just hope he can keep the quality midfield stuff up for a very long time. :thumbsu:

I think the fact that he is already a lock in the midfield will only help his development. He's not only playing with some champion midfielders, he's right there beside them. I think Selwood showed what that kind of experience can do to a player's development. Hill/Ziebell may be playing, but from what I've seen so far, they're coming into their sides on the flanks, where they're influencing games far less than Rich is.
