The closest I could see being worthwhile would be:

No week off before finals.

Instead: Wildcard
7th hosts 10th, winner plays in Elimination Final #2
8th hosts 9th, winner plays in Elimination Final #1

1 - Hosts Qualifying Final #1
2 - Hosts Qualifying Final #2
3 - Plays 2nd in Qualifying Final
4 - Plays 1st in Qualifying Final
5 - Hosts Elimination Final #1
6 - Hosts Elimination Final #2

Then the top six get their week off without the bottom teams surging along and percentage splitting 6th to 12th doesn't have as much impact.

The AFL get two extra games, they love that stuff.

yeah sounds good, and if carlton is in the finals, even if theyre 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th 8th, theyd still play in a wildcard, and if theyre 9th 10th 11th or 12th they can be automatic losers
