you got the first 10. and franklin soft frees? haha, he got one against your mob at the TD, and it was still there. franklin only has to fart on a defender and gets a free against.
Pretty simple really. Geelong were carried all season by incredible cheating.
Then at the last minute Scott McLaren gets called up (for no reason and no explanation) to umpire the Grand Final.
100K people (yes Cats fans included) and millions on TV all saw what he did.
He didn't make mistakes.
He didn't get some wrong.
HE CHEATED !!!
Are we all just gonna let this happen to the game we love?
Has the AFL acted on this or are they burying it?

I love James Hird even more now for what he did. Real champions act like champions and do not do so only when it suits.

There was an excellent photo in the paper days after the GF of the now infamous moment when Brad Ottens running into an open goal at the 17 minute mark in the second quarter missed that easy shot. The funny thing about the photo was the unmistakable spectre of Mc Laren running directly in front of Lonergan who if he wasnt being obscured deliberately or in the John Barnes the Essendon runner sense "manned up" by Mc Laren was actually alone in the goal square on his own. Is it an umpire protocol to run 30 metres before the play?
So there are only two options here. Look I'll make it even easier for you I'll introduce the alphabet for you this is either A) "smoke and mirrors" for an umpire you know is on the take from Hawthorn or its just B) "smoke and you"?
Plugga kick his hundred and got very little free kicks. Umps like buddy and hawthorn, you also were carried by fools like Mclaren.

Even in the StKilda Hawthorn game they were shocking, almost all the goals in the first quarter were from umpiring free kicks.

You would think that the afl might listen to the legends of the game. Mclaren turns games around, example one time he umpired St. Kilda v Port, he and the other 2 umps were forced to apologise to St. Kilda for giving 14 unwarranted free kicks, 14!

the guy is a cheat plain and simple.
I still find it so bewildering that we are all so scared to just admit it.
Non for profit cheating, but cheating all the same.
Saints cop it too mate, been saying that all year.
We weren't CHEATING mate, we were exploiting the gullibity of the match adjudicators. It's not our fault players can take Azzurri-style dives that completely suck the dumb-as-dogshit umpies in.
Geelong have therefore been cleared of all bar one charge of 'exploiting a person of diminished faculties'. Sentence has been duly suspended. They are free to go on their own recognisance of the facts.

He should be investigated, so we can deal with this issue and send a message to the rest of the arse clowns while we are at it.

Ex players as umps?...agreed. Umpires lack feel for the game. Intuition is lacking, any way of fixing that is cool with me.

As for the umps. You are spot on, and I am sick of humouring these guys. They have no clue about how to umpire each game on it's merits.
How could any umpire do what McLaren did in the GF, with such a wonderful game going on.

I think Richie Benaud says my answer best to your pop quiz. Its like Goldspink. He got so sick of being terrible at his job he started telling players how terrible they were at theirs eg Paul Chapman? It doesnt help the crowd much who want to rip them to shreds limb from limb but its been that way since Biblical times. The MCG is just a new Colleseum for the Umpires.
