Your rivals should have to give out medals....so Geelong players should have given out the medals yesterday. If port win the crows players have to give them the medals.
Who would Footscray, St Kilda, Melbourne, Fremantle or North Melbourne players receive their medals from?

What they should do for half time entertainment is have a 30 minute game between the AFL Auskickers and the AFL legends.

Whoever wins gets the privilege of presenting the premiership medals to the winning team of the Grand Final.

That will keep everyone happy and make sure Channel 7's Grand Final ratings doesn't drop below that of Better Homes and Gardens.

Just make sure every aboriginal player presents it to an aboriginal kid................
Have to find an asian kid if Lin Jong ever wins a flag for the doggies.
Have to get a girl for Jack Watts if melbourne ever wins one.

Have to get a turtle for Brock McLean if Carlton wins it next year

;)

I don't have a problem with the kids draping the medals around the players' necks. It gives those kids something to remember for the rest of their lives. Better than some useless, old fart presenting the medals.

My only gripe is the way the players have to stoop down on one knee and lower their heads like they're peasants bowing to the king and queen. It's very awkward. Why can't any of the 200 geniuses who work for the AFL think of elevating the platform by another metre where the kids stand so they can easily reach over the players' heads?

The AFL are such dumbasses.

Disgraceful thread, backed only by morons who most likely don't have children of their own. The players get all the attention the entire week before the GF, then the whole day itself, then the months after it. So what exactly is wrong with giving a young kid a memory they will cherish for the rest of their lives? We can't forget that these kids may well be up there one day receiving a medal from the next generation of footballers themselves.

"I have children therefore my opinion is more important than yours" is among the dumbest ideas ever put forward on the internet.

What annoys me the most is always having an Aboriginal kid giving a medal to an Aboriginal player and a Caucasian kid givinga medal to a Caucasian player

lol this old argument

The AFL doesnt owe kids a memory like this on its biggest day, it owes the players

It should be catoring to make the player experience the best it possible can be, and having to deal with a kid giving the medal and the hat exchange doesnt do that, its awkward and not fitting for the occasion

The most valued medal in the competition should be given out by an important member of the AFL, be it a past champion of the winning club, the AFL CEO or some other high ranking official etc.

But I hate how the hats being handed over to the kids has become part of the whole procession. The moment is about the medal, the thing that the players have strived for their whole careers, not a stupid cheap hat which can be given to the players and kids at any point. Leave it out.

Ironically they started doing the hats the season after a few west coast players forgot to shake the hands of some of the kids.
