Richmond forward Tom Lynch has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2023 AFL season due to the foot injury that has kept him sidelined since Round 4.

Lynch met with a surgeon and Club medical staff this week, where it was decided, the fracture had not healed to the level required to increase training loads to consider a return to playing this year.

The key forward will instead have the foot further operated on before turning his focus to returning to action in 2024.
Richmond General Manager - Football Performance Tim Livingstone said the approach would allow Lynch to return to full fitness.
“Tom is such a significant player for us, so it is important that we get this right,” he said.

“We have monitored the bone throughout the season, and the healing process has been slow - but we have not waivered from the beginning that the priority would be Tom’s long-term health.

“It is frustrating because we would love to have Tom playing for us, but even more, we want him fit and firing for the long term. This course of action has been recommended by our medical staff and will give Tom the time required to get this right for the future.”
Lynch, who won the Jack Dyer Medal as the Tigers’ best and fairest in 2022, booted nine goals from four matches in 2023.

Feel sorry for Jack.

He would’ve thought that Lynch could help him share the load in 2023 which will help aid his body management.

Turns out he’s had to burden the entire load as our KPF for the season.
The blokes a bloody warrior for getting through the year as he has.
and should be rewarded with another contract

Seth Campbell, Josh Gibcus
Kaleb Smith, Tom Lynch, Mate Colina, Robbie Tarrant, even Soldo injured all the way up to round 7 then out again another 7 weeks. None of these blokes have done ACL's but that's 7 players who we've basically gotten a handful of games out of in an entire season. Hamstrings, ankles, foot, back, hip, adductor all basically wiped out for the entire season. Add Castagna and that's 20% of our list unusable.

It's a fu@ken disgrace Tarrant never progressed, nor Lynch and Colina. I bet Gibcus has a setback and is back in for surgery. Whoever sent Lynch back out should be fired. Send em all to Dr Frankenstein in Germany maybe we'll get a discounted rate on calves blood? I hope they've already identified our new rehab/ strength team cos they all should be shown the door the minute the season ends. Pay the price this time FFS's scour the globe like WCE are. $100,000,000 business brought undone by being lazy and stingey!

Gibcus had a setback with a standard hamstring strain nearly ten weeks ago.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s next to be ruled out for the season.
Might as well make that call now. No point in rushing him back. Give them both hopefully an extended preseason.

Might as well make the call on Meehan now!

Will be interesting to see if the club review our injury list in the off season. Correct me if I am wrong but Mini was asked but gave the sub standard response injuries like most other clubs.

Not sure what this has to do with fitness staff? It’s not healing? Not like he is running and making it worse
If its fifth metatarsal, it is so a stress fracture and that's on the fitness staff.

(High risk stress fracture, career ending, and we had Lynch run off the plantar fascia that comes with it in pre season, ffs)

Three players, Kaleb, Lynch and Soldo with foot stress fractures. Someone needs a rocket!

Gee I hope lynchy can get that foot right , further surgery is a worry , sounds like the original didn’t heal which is bloody unusual , knowing a couple of peeps with broken feet in recent times they take yonks, my sister in law tripped over the dog a couple of years ago , still limping , oh and the dogs no longer around if you’re wondering , died of natural causes

It's been a mess our fitness and conditioning last 2 seasons we're not talking isolated incidents to many reoccurrences, soft tissues etc and players rushed back very poor management. Preseason fitness wasn't great either club took short cuts in this department for me.

Burge left after his poor record and we hire the bloke under him. Yeah Burge was there in our flag years , but let's focus on the present standards dropped bigtime.
