From Bunga to Chesser: Grading Eagles’ first-round record
West Coast have two first-round selections on Monday night in one of their strongest draft hands in recent memory. But how strong is their track record when it comes to utilising early picks?thewest.com.au
Brad Ebert - Pick 13
Games: 260 (184 for Port Adelaide)
Players picked soon after: Patrick Dangerfield (Adelaide), Harry Taylor (Geelong), Alex Rance (Richmond), Callan Ward (Western Bulldogs)
Brad Ebert will be remembered more for his time at Port Adelaide than West Coast.

Almost forgotten by Eagles fans, Ebert was a good midfielder in his time at West Coast. Homesickness got the best of him and he was traded to Port Adelaide at the end of the 2011 season where he would be one of their best over the next nine years. West Coast got picks 28 and 49 in the deal, which really can’t justify a first-rounder
Grade: D-
Mitch Brown - Pick 16
Games: 94
Players picked soon after: Shane Edwards (Richmond), Josh Kennedy (Hawthorn), Robbie Gray (Port Adelaide)

A promising key position player, Brown showed potential as both a forward and backman but injury and form meant he was in and out of the team over his decade there. In the end, he tried to get back to Victoria, before being offered a contract by the Eagles. He was then told there wasn’t room for him when the Eagles surprising secured Hawthorn superstar Sam Mitchell. Brown would return to Victoria and play amateur football the next year.
Grade: D

Shaun Grigg would've been more than useful. For a super-draft, the list of players that actually went just after Brown is a bit barren, other than Edwards 10 picks later.
Have some respect, Shaun Hampsons now a two time Survivor player, I'd take that from a pick 17For a super-draft, the list of players that actually went just after Brown is a bit barren, other than Edwards 10 picks later.
He's also Mr Megan Gale (somehow)
Let’s just say their kids are unlikely to be brain surgeons. That’s definitely a more impressive achievement.
Loving the AFL.com draft coverage. Gives you a short interview with every draftee so far expect, you guessed it…Ginbey & Hewett
Ginbey was thereWeren't both of them not invited to draft night?
Their eyes are fixed on a stout figure at the front of the lounge room...
O’Brien, wispy, mousy brown mop nestling above wide rimmed glasses, perched on his nose. Some wags on social media have suggested he bears a resemblance to Elton John. It’s no stretch.
I am physically unable to read that
I guess all the detail, i.e. the stuff we're all interested in, will be in part 2.Feast your eyes on this evocative piece of storytelling from the great man Stocksy. What a Saturday morning treat
Part one: Inside the draft
Part one of a two-part look inside a dream draft for the West Coast Eagleswww.westcoasteagles.com.au
Big if true.During the day a whisper circulates that Melbourne is keen to jump up the draft order and have made a significant pitch to Essendon to trade into pick No.4. Should that happen it could be a significant curve ball.
It would take something special to convince a club to surrender a selection so high in the ballot.
Just saw all the photos of Culley presenting the jumper to Dewar. I’ve enjoyed all the photos and posts of the draftees this year. Reckon the social media guys might’ve got a kick up the butt too. Been a lot more media content
Absolutely, I just said as much on twitter.Definitely been a lot more content and in a more timely manner so far.
Even something simple like getting the new jumper number info out which previously has been a state secret. Other things like training sessions being open and times released well in advance indicate a bit of a shift in philosophy
Maybe member renewals aren’t happening as quickly as prior years
Whatever the reason, however, it’s a welcome change
