13 new players drafted over the last two years is plenty. Quality over quantity is preferable anyway.

3 first rounders
4 second rounders
3 fourth rounders
1 mid season pick (touted late 1st,2nd rd)
2 Cat B rookies

8 of the 13 we’ve taken were inside the top 40 of the last two drafts. We also have one 1st, two 2nds and two 3rds in ne t years draft. I’d say our turnover is just fine and the rejuvenation of our playing list is going well.

As others have mentioned there’s no point throwing Gaff to the wolves or showing Shuey the door if the replacements are a few kids picked in the 50’s /60’s.

Another 5-7 again next year and i dare say we’ll have one of the youngest lists in the comp.

Meanwhile we have some veterans imparting their wisdom on the youth.

All Sumich and Cornes would have done is seen Hurn, Shuey and Gaff are still on the list and jumped to the ignorant conclusion we’re not rebuilding the list despite all the evidence to the contrary.

Lazy journalism at its finest.

Doesn’t have to be either or.
Simply give the over 27s say 16-17 games in the season and that leaves plenty of spots for the 30 or so remaining younger guys to show (or not show) their wares.
Plus gives a good weekly blend of maturity and youth.

When I made my post about Suma I thought of you - what's the connection? You seem to go into bat for him every time.

As for individuals, he didn't seem to have a problem throwing 17 year old Trew under the media bus well before he had even begun and AFL career.

Because I find it extremely frustrating that so many Eagles supporters get some weird kick out of potting a club great. Easily my favourite Eagle during my formative years of footy watching. Cuz gets more respect around here than Peter which is baffling.

That his resume of actual, empirically measurable, success at any level of coaching he has found himself at is so readily ignored because he isn't great in front of a camera and he talks funny (lol) I find a sad comment on the state of society where we seemingly prefer to focus on the sizzle instead of the sausage (Dark Sharks excluded ofc).

re: Trew

Sumich said on talent alone Trew sat inside the top 30 at this years draft. I said the kid can play and he can play
His attitude towards football is great, but I think he gets the sooks a bit if things don't go his way and I think that's what the recruiters have seen,” Sumich said in 2020. “He needs to lift his game in that area. If things don't go his way he needs to really knuckle down and get on with business

Throwing Trew under a bus or explaining what he thinks is a flaw in a talented youngsters game that is holding him back? Perhaps the feedback/input is just too direct for folks to feel comfortable in this day and age?

It's possible to be critical of his media comments whilst still respecting his football career - I can only speak for myself and I don't think saying his media contributions are a bit superficial is potting him - however yes there are people out there that enjoy jumping on the 'Suma is a bit simple' train.

I don't agree with the way he went about his Trew comments - it's not about being a snowflake, I just think there would've been a better way to describe the flaws in a 17 year olds game or personality in the public forum.

Sumich did have a good track record as an assistant firstly at West Coast and then at Fremantle. Came awfully close to being our senior coach to replace Worsfold and I don’t think too many supporters would have been upset if he did. Some are upset that he didn’t

Was in the running for a few other senior roles after that without ever getting the chance he probably deserved

Unfortunately, in more recent times he seems to have gone down the path of saying controversial shit for the sake of it. He’s a club great and I loved him when he played for us (hated how maligned he was by some supporters), but if he says something dumb then I think it’s fine to say so

That said, after reading what he said in full, his reasoning behind saying we should be aiming for 10+ wins is sound and personally I think the club would be aiming for that. We’ll see how realistic that is next year

Suma is such a goose sometimes.

If you’re going to say the club should have ‘cut deeper’ explain who and how they should have done it.

Nudge Shannon Hurn into retirement? - you don’t do that to club legends who have never let the club down at any time. Come on now.

Force Luke Shuey into retirement? - look, maybe? but for better or worse, he’s the captain and no doubt conversations would have been had but to essentially sack the captain?….it’s been a pretty horrible year already.

Nic Naitanui? - the guy who has won 2 out of our last 3 B&F and is easily our best ruck option on the list (and potentially still a top ruckman in the league)

Andrew Gaff - tough year playing injured…under contract for 2 more years - stuck with the club when offered huge money elsewhere and missed the Top 10 in the B&F for the first time in a decade. Trade him? For what? Basically nothing like JOM at Hawthorn? Pay him to play for another team? That’s a s**t way to treat a great clubman.

Think we should have done all of them? 3/4?

That’s fine - but if you’re going to imply it like Suma, why not just say it and explain how and why it’s a good idea.
Not only is it hard to figure out how to cut them, but how do you get decent talent to take their place? We hit the draft hard and even grabbed a free agent (Hunt) but I didn't see anyone promising left on the table. Maybe a longshot rookie or two, but that would be silly to trade experience for a gambit.

A rebuild is a slow process, you have to phase your experienced players out so that they help build the leadership capacity of the younger guys along the way. We have two more offseasons before we will have finished the transition from the veterans.

If he was writing the articles sure. Otherwise I suspect the fault lays at the feet of the standard of journalism currently in vogue.

Can't read it but obvious what it's about, no doubt will piss cornes and the power tossers off 😂

I’ll take a punt.

“Mitch Georgiades is out of contract at the end of next season - Port Adelaide will be keen to retain him but Fremantle and West Coast will want to lure him West, because he is originally from WA.

West Coast reportedly showed interest in Georgiades during last year’s trade period but Port were not willing to part with the talented youngster.

Georgiades is yet to indicate his future plans with his focus on preparation for the 2023 season”

Sumich's opinions on this matter are hardly out of the mainstream. In fact, i would say that there is almost unanimous agreement with him in his assessment of our club within the AFL industry and media.

For those who are upset with and disagree with Sumich you should ask yourselves the question would you still disagree with his assessment if it was a club other than your own that was being discussed? I doubt any of you would.

Sumich's problem is not a lack of football or even general IQ, it is a lack of emotional intelligence and emotional regulation. He is too forceful and blunt in expressing his opinions and leaves no room for any debate or disagreement. I suspect that this is why he had never had a senior coaching gig. He is seen as somebody who doesn't adapt and operate well in team environments. I reckon club's would suspect he wouldn't cope when he can't dictate decisions, will likely bitch and moan to other staff and drag morale down, that behind closed doors he will likely launch personal verbal attacks on others within the club that disagree with him rather than debate the issue and argue his corner in a mature and constructive way, and may hold grudges against people who disagreed with him on a decision.

If he wants to have a rant and express a totally unfiltered opinion he should come on here and get it out of his system. You can't do it as an aspiring senior coach. It will terminally damage your career prospects. You need to have runs on the board, i.e. premierships as coach, if you want to have a license to be a loose cannon and still have a job.

This definitely brings back good memories…. And how crazy some pies fans are…

That really sucks, that moment would have been the highlight of many of their years. Maybe lives. You can tell in that bloke’s voice how much it mattered to them.

Buckley was a class act that day, before and after the game.

On one hand, the Pies had great luck as nearly everything went their way in order to get a 5 goal lead in the 1st (we weren't playing badly, they were just on fire). On the other hand, they had some bad omens with the banner breaking and the runner shepparding Stephenson so Yeo could mark and kick us ahead.

Don’t forget, Maynard was blocked.

So in yet another example of the West/Perth Now lifting their content from elsewhere, we have Samantha Rogers doing a copy and paste job from the WCE website re Jack Darling

All quotes are lifted directly from the WCE piece with the only added parts being her attempt to cast dispersions on Darling’s rib injury referred to in the article

His slow start was widely put down to him being forced away from the club due to his vaccine stance when it had more to do with a foot injury followed by a cracked rib

But young Samantha has decided to question that because there was no rib injury reported in the club’s medical report after the game. Because we all know how accurate those are

Piece of shit article

Maybe true. But all West Coast website articles also have to be treated as propaganda. They have their own agenda to push and Darling would much rather blame an injury that was not his fault than a stupid stance that was entirely his fault for his slow start to the season.

Point is it's recycled content, not journalism.
