Clearly forgotten how many no 1, 2 and 3 picks in the current melbourne side and what it takes to get those picks….

When west coast have the afl picking paul roos out to rebuild our club culture ill listen to that walking turd….

He was saying we are currently the worst team...

Melbourne were bad over a sustained period of time, but I don't think they ever went through a period as low as what West Coast are experiencing. Yes, they 'won' the spoon in 2008 and 2009. In 2009 they managed 4 wins with a percentage just below 75. And in 2008 they managed only 3 wins with a percentage of 63. We currently have 1 win in half a season and a percentage below 50. At this rate, we are on track for 2 wins in the season.

Do you know how many teams have been worse than that in the last 25 years? One. GWS in their first season (2 wins, 46%) and second season (1 win, 51%). Fremantle only had 2 wins in 2001, but their percentage was 74. And St Kilda won 2 games in 2000, plus a draw and had a percentage of 70. And Carlton won 2 games in 2018, but again they had a percentage of almost 60. In other words, excluding GWS (who were basically playing kids in their first two seasons), we are on track for the worst season in the last 25 years. And there is no guarantee we won't give GWS's record a shake... because at this stage, I'm not confident we can snag another win and our percentage could drop further.

I think it was Reiwoldt that described us as historically bad.

He's not wrong.

Melbourne in 2013 finished 2-20 with a % of 54.1. Only missed the spoon due to GWS finishing 1-21 in their second season in the comp. Their initial “rebuild” had come to shattering fail and the VFL had to step in to save them.

So Lyon can carry on all he wants but we (WCE) will never have the sustained period of diabolical on field performances that his club delivered. We crash and crash hard, but bounce back in quick time!

As they say in the super ads, past performance isn't a indicator of future returns.

Something needs to change for this to occur, instead everyone's heads up their asses licking their own ringhole.

Plenty of changes coming. I certainly don’t believe “everyone” inside the club are sitting around doing nothing. There would be significant questions being asked and actions sought. I don’t think a fall as precipitous as this was expected, but maybe it may turn out for the best. Rather than flailing around mid table, rip the band aid off, straight into the bottom four and build from there.

I’m prepared to back in this club. The good times have always outweighed the bad, we have done it before and will do it again 👍

We are in a situation where the club could lose the next match by 10 goals and have its percentage improve.

That is how bad things are going.
Well we would also have to score 60 points for that to happen so I wouldn't worry too much.

So Essendon announces another review, led by Sean Wellman and include club legends Kevin Sheedy and Simon Madden. The same folk that did the last review just under 2 years ago. They have already guaranteed the coach is safe. I can see us going down the same path and thinking the same thing, what’s the point? Any review needs to be independent and wide ranging.

Not surprised though. No one likes a campaigner:

Based on Andrew Gaff talking on his regular spot on SEN yesterday - he was asked about Boofhead Browns comments on the couch about Darling

Pretty much he brushed them off

“It is all understandable for people to have their opinions at the moment about all that stuff and we are just not playing well enough so those sort of conversations start popping up a bit more,” he told SEN WA on Tuesday morning.

“I think everyone knows that that was a long time ago, some guys might have different opinions to others about all that, but in the end we are a team and Jack made his decision to come back and get vaccinated and play and he has been doing that for the last sort of eight, nine weeks.

“We have all moved on from that, it is not an issue that is lingering any more.

“It was a big deal at the time, sort of media-wise and no doubt sort of inside the club as it was happening, but it’s not an issue for us anymore.”

We're on opposite sides of the cycle though. They've lost good players like Neale and are coming back from a low base, so have had all the draft picks.

Meanwhile we're plummeting after playing off in two grand finals in 4 years and topped up with Tim Kelly to try and make a third.

That doesn't explain everything but jeez it's a significant factor in why we're trending in opposite directions on-field.

How are people still not getting this? Yeah we're in a terribly shit position right now, but that's the literal design if the AFL draft: you go up, challenge for a flag, come down, draft and rebuild your list for the next challenge.

Comparing our current state with anyone other than perhaps Richmond, Bulldogs or perhaps Geelong is just ignorant. The AFL media is just pure lazy clickbait bullshit, always has been.

Why is everyone so salty about Freo’s efforts this year? Good on them, I say.

Are they? I like stirring up their supporters but don't really give a shit about the team itself - I've said it before, not many punchable heads at Fremantle these days. Comparing us is just lazy though.

The last time both WA teams made finals was 2015

Last year (2021) was the first time since then that neither WA side played finals

The intervening 5 years, one side played finals every year whilst the other side finished 16th, 14th, 13th, 13th and 12th

Not hard to guess why one club is on the rise and the other is tumbling

In 2016 after finishing 2015 as minor premiers, Fremantle lost their first 10 games

You should put this on The Mongrel Punt.

I'm sure you've read enough dribble by our own posters on this board to realise footy supporters aren't exactly the smartest.

If you're not competing every year then the team's shit, coach needs to be sacked, S&C team run out the door (although I agree with this one..), etc.

I'll take Gaff's comment with a grain of salt. He's not going to take a potshot at a fellow team mate... not unless he is particularly stupid. It's a bad idea at the best of times, but definitely not while you are going through an epically bad season. Besides, it is entirely possible he's not dialed into any resentment because he's not a fringe player himself. Imagine busting your arse during the preseason, only to watch Jack Darling take a supposedly "principled stand", and then cave at the last minute when his salary was on the line... and then he gets rewarded with automatic selection ahead of you. But it's justified right... because Jack is a champion. Except he has completely stunk it up for 9 games.

Actually over the last couple of games at least we have outscored a surprising number of teams. But yes our opponents have then kicked BIG scores.

Not much consolation but I’d rather have 160-60 than 120-20.
I would usually leave this to the resident pedants on our board but in neither of those cases would our percentage improve, which is the point I was making.

Just checked in to see whether we'd done the expected and not drafted Jai Culley, only to find out the MSD has been scheduled for prime-time TV hours. Why does this shit always need to be scheduled for eastern states TV?
Pretty sure it's not being broadcast.
Also, the majority of the AFL media is in Victoria.

That's what I was thinking. So why not just get it over and done with? Give teams a chance to get their boy on a plane in time for the game this weekend.
If we select him, pretty sure he gets on the kite tomorrow.
It's an away game so he won't be there anyway I'd imagine.
