Well... when they say "handing over", they mean handing back to the rightful owners - as determined by the Maritime Law Tribunal of the UN, which determined that the UK has no sovreignty over the Chagos Islands.
PRITI PATEL: Why one of the worst deals in history is unravelling
"What we do know is Mr Lammy and Keir Starmer are prepared to give away the Chagos Islands, then use taxpayers' money to pay for the privilege, which would be one of the worst deals in history, and they are desperate to rush this through before US President-elect Donald Trump is inaugurated."
"Donald Trump's pick for secretary of state, Marco Rubio, warned last month that the agreement posed 'a serious threat' to US national security by handing over the islands to a country allied with China."
You really are in a dark space atm.Would not surprise, plus all those minerals in Ukraine. Putin has mined so many crop fields though.
Cherie Jacobus:
Ukraine is the breadbasket of the world, producing enough food to feed 400 million people. Trump will hand Ukraine to Putin, and Trump's trade war w/Mexico and Canada could conceivably make us dependent on Putin-controlled Ukraine food production. Especially after he deports migrant ag workers.
No, Ukraine isYou really are in a dark space atm.
Worked out well in Hong Kong. Great ruling by the Tribunal of the UNWell... when they say "handing over", they mean handing back to the rightful owners - as determined by the Maritime Law Tribunal of the UN, which determined that the UK has no sovreignty over the Chagos Islands.

The US can bitch & moan as much as they want, but at the end of the day the decision to hand them back to Mauritius is just reflecting the fact that the UK were there illegally in the first place.
Consider the following scenario... Person A (UK) steals a car from Person B (Mauritius), and then leases the car to Person C (USA). Person C then has no recourse when the courts determine that the car was stolen, and needs to be returned to the rightful owner (i.e. Person B). All C can do is negotiate with B for the ongoing use of the car.
I agree that it's not a great position strategically, given the importance of the base at Diego Garcia. However, the UK had no right to be leasing it to the USA in the first place.
That's the best you've got? Playing the man, because you've got nothing regarding the ball?Worked out well in Hong Kong. Great ruling by the Tribunal of the UN
Note the article said "Following the Brexit vote, Britain appeared to lose support at the UN."
Canberra deserves you.
The UN just about the most corrupt organisation on the planet bar none...Well... when they say "handing over", they mean handing back to the rightful owners - as determined by the Maritime Law Tribunal of the UN, which determined that the UK has no sovreignty over the Chagos Islands.

It's about time to disband the UN & build a useful organisation. The UN just about the most corrupt organisation on the planet bar none...
One only needs to look at the members of the UN Human rights council, that should tell anyone with a functioning brain all they need to know.
