Van Jones: ‘A bullet couldn’t stop Trump, a virus just stopped Biden’

Democratic strategist Van Jones argued Wednesday was a “terrible day” for Democrats following President Biden’s COVID-19 diagnosis, arguing his response contrasted that of former President Trump, who faced an attempted assassination on Saturday.
“Today is a terrible day. If you pull back and look at this thing, strength versus weakness, a bullet couldn’t stop Trump. A virus just stopped Biden,” Jones said Wednesday night on CNN.
“You’ve got nominees of this party getting their butts kissed. Biden’s getting his butt kicked by his own party. The Democrats are coming apart. The Republicans are coming together. That’s what’s happening. And at some point, this party has to look at the reality of that,” he added.
Biden tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, marking the third time in the past two years the president has tested positive for the virus.
The White House on Wednesday said Biden was “experiencing mild symptoms” and would return to Delaware to self-isolate and “carry out all of his duties fully during that time.” He received his first dose of Paxlovid, an antiviral therapy produced by Pfizer.
Shortly after the announcement was made, Biden was seen boarding Air Force One to head back to Delaware for self-isolation. He told reporters he felt “good.”
It follows a tumultuous few weeks for Biden, whose disastrous debate performance last month sparked concerns from some within the Democratic Party over his ability to beat Trump in November and carry out a second term. It further surfaced the growing worries over Biden’s mental acuity and age.
At 81, Biden is the oldest sitting U.S. president. He has faced repeated criticism, especially from Republicans, that he is perceived as weak by voters and global leaders.
Biden has rejected calls to withdraw from the race, maintaining he can defeat Trump in the election.
The diagnosis came days after Trump was injured in an attempted assassination at a campaign rally last Saturday. One spectator was killed, and two other attendees were injured.
A day after the shooting, Trump traveled to Milwaukee for this week’s Republican National Conference, where he has appeared with a bandage over his wounded ear, which he said was hit by a bullet during the incident.
Several RNC attendees were seen at the event wearing bandages on their ears in solidarity with the former president.
Trump is slated to deliver remarks at the RNC on Thursday.
The Hill reached out to the White House for comment.
Never mind you’ve still got your jackass grifter orange is the new black hero.

You really are a sad sack, you're the one that's been saying Biden is a just and old man when it's been clear to anyone with half a brain he's a very sick old man, now even his supporters are admitting they've been in denial.

Not sure Kamala Harris can win but she's a whole lot more likely than Biden.

Most people aren't pro Biden, they are just aware how bad Trump is and realise any opponet is the better option.

Its like how you are just anti Dan Andrews , not pro Pesutto specifically (sorry had to look that up, I assume he is the leader)

Such a collection of deluded ****wits giving each other a reach around. The mis and disinformation peddled in that circus is so Donald. What a laugh. 😂

Barack Obama pressures Joe Biden to drop out of 2024 presidential race

Key Democratic donors are said to have warned “there’s not another dollar of fundraising” for Joe Biden, as Barack Obama said chances for victory are “greatly diminished”.

Senior Democrats believe Joe Biden could be persuaded to drop out of the election race as soon as this weekend, with former president Barack Obama among those fearing he cannot defeat Donald Trump.
In what loomed as a fatal blow to the US President’s candidacy, top congressional leaders privately urged the 81-year-old to quit, with their conversations leaked in what one insider described as a bid to “shame him” to walk away.

Mr Obama – who had Mr Biden as his vice president for eight years – also told allies that his chances of victory were “greatly diminished” and that he needed to consider abandoning his re-election effort, according to the Washington Post.
Top Democratic donors also said they believed Mr Biden would have to bow out.

“Biden’s gotten the message that there’s not another dollar of fundraising,” a Wall Street party backer told the Financial Times.

“He’s just not going to be able to withstand it.”

Major donors threatened to freeze all contributions unless party leaders took stronger steps to force out Mr Biden.

“Yes, that card has been played,” a senior House Democrat told CNN.

A source close to the President told the New York Times that “reality is setting in”, while a senior Democrat added to CNN: “People see and feel the walls closing in.”

The former president remained tellingly silent about the claims, while congressional leaders Chuck Schumer, Hakeem Jeffries and Nancy Pelosi all refused to deny reports that they had pressured Mr Biden to quit in recent days.

Barack Obama reportedly joins widespread Democratic unease over Joe Biden's candidacy

Former president Barack Obama has privately expressed concerns to Democrats about Joe Biden's candidacy in the 2024 US presidential elections, according to US media reports.

Mr Obama has privately said that the sitting US president needs to consider the viability of his campaign, the Washington Post reported, but has also made clear that the decision is one the president needs to make.
Mr Biden has begun to accept the idea that he may not be able to win the November 5 election and may have to drop out of the race, the New York Times reported on Thursday, local time, citing several people close to the president.

The former president has taken calls in recent days from members of congressional leadership, Democratic governors and key donors to discuss their concerns about his former vice-president.

Mr Biden said on Monday he hadn’t spoken to Mr Obama in a couple of weeks.

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi privately warned Mr Biden that Democrats could lose the ability to seize control of the US Congress if he does not step away from the 2024 race, several people familiar with the matters told AP.
Ms Pelosi also showed polling to Mr Biden that she argued shows he likely can't defeat Republican Donald Trump — though the former speaker countered on Thursday in a sharp statement that the "feeding frenzy" from anonymous sources "misrepresents any conversations" she may have had with the president.

With time racing, Ms Pelosi and Mr Obama are among Democrats at the highest levels who are making a critical push for Mr Biden to re-evaluate his re-election bid, as unease grows at the White House and within the campaign at a fraught moment for the president and his party.

Montana senator Jon Tester called on the president not to seek another term on Thursday, saying in a statement he had "never been afraid to stand up to [Biden] when he is wrong".

Major political donors, particularly in California, have been putting heavy pressure on the president's campaign and members of Congress, according to one Democratic strategist.

Mr Biden has insisted he's not backing down, adamant that he's the candidate who beat Mr Trump before and will do so again.

Pressed about reports that Mr Biden might be softening to the idea of leaving the race, his deputy campaign manager Quentin Fulks said on Thursday: "He is not wavering on anything."

Senior Democrats, including congressional leadership headed by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, have expressed unease.

Both have spoken privately to the president in the last week to lay out their concerns, shared by many Democrats in the Capitol.
On Wednesday, congressman Adam Schiff, a close ally of Ms Pelosi, called for Mr Biden to drop his re-election bid, saying he believes it's time to "pass the torch".

Mr Schiff's announcement brings to nearly 20 the number of Democratic members of Congress calling on Mr Biden to withdraw from the presidential race.

Adam Schitt hasn't produced those Russia, Russia, Russia documents yet. Maybe he can threaten Biden with them, or Hilary can just eliminate Biden. She's good at that sort of thing.
