I get it, you hated him 4 years ago and you still hate him now. I've seen a lot of hate thrown his way, but this guy is a consistent winner and an overachiever. Call it jealously or envy, some people just can't handle how successful he is and how much money he has. Yes, there have been some scandals, some lies, and maybe a few times he's twisted the truth to make himself look better. But he's out there everyday proving his haters wrong -- time after time. You may not have wanted him in this job, but there's nothing you or I can do about it. I know it might get worse over the next several weeks, but like him or not, Tom Brady is doing a great job as a broadcaster.

Donald Trump might be crude and bombastic but his victory has delivered some important lessons for Australian leaders, writes Paul Starick.


Donald Trump might well be a crude and bombastic billionaire but he was propelled back into power by an extraordinary ability to connect with everyday voters’ concerns.
Rampant inflation wreaked havoc across the United States, sending living costs soaring beyond wage increases for millions of Americans.
Mr Trump might have made a stunning political comeback but he won by repurposing Bill Clinton’s 1992 mantra: “It’s the economy, stupid.”
The Trump mantra was rhetorically asking voters if they were better off now than they were four years ago.
Federal governments have fewer economic levers to pull than President-elect Trump – states have even less influence.

There are many differences between the US and Australia but Mr Trump’s victory strongly suggests voters across the board are disillusioned with the political system, tired of political correctness and distrustful of conventional politicians.

With this in mind, Australia could do with a dose of Mr Trump’s decisiveness and pragmatism.

His energy policy is unencumbered by ideology, unlike Labor’s convoluted opposition to nuclear power and its role in the economic transition to net zero. Renewable energy needs firming – now coming from coal and gas. Like Americans, Australians want affordable and reliable energy supplies.

A similar question posed by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s opponents now, and at an election early next year, could well prove equally devastating.
Asking voters in southwestern Adelaide if they are better off now than when Premier Peter Malinauskas came to power in March, 2022, might yet help the Liberals to victory at the November 16 by-election in David Speirs’ former seat of Black.
Undoubtedly, millions of Australian households are much worse off now than they were in May, 2022, when federal Labor came to power. Inflation, interest rates and energy costs have surged since then. This has widened economic gaps, particularly between those who own their homes or have mortgages under control – and everyone else.
Too many young people are forlorn about their prospects of achieving the great Australian dream of home ownership.

A record 47 per cent of Australian households are struggling to pay their home loan amid pressure from interest rates, according to a Finder survey released on November 1.

The same survey found one in seven, or 462,000 borrowers, said they would have to sell or apply for hardship if interest rates remained the same until February.

A similar question posed by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s opponents now, and at an election early next year, could well prove equally devastating.

The world’s richest man, Elon Musk, is speculated to want to make $US2 trillion in cuts, mostly in the federal bureaucracy.

In South Australia, there are 95,027 public servants – or full-time equivalent general government sector employees in the 2025 state budget. This is estimated to be 98,541 in 2028. Public sector workers comprise almost 15 per cent of SA’s total workforce.

This makes them a powerful voting group, as various political leaders have discovered to their benefit and peril.

Liberal Opposition Leader Isobel Redmond was pilloried in 2012 for declaring the public service should be cut by about 20,000 full-time jobs, a statement she later retracted. The Malinauskas government won power in 2022 by vowing to fix the ramping crisis, backed by ambulance employees embroiled in a pay dispute.

The public sector overwhelms private enterprise in SA – Santos is the state’s only firm in ASX’s top 100.

Clearly, there is an imbalance – even if Musk-scale cuts are extreme. Politicians should not be scared of debating this issue.

Love him or loathe him, Mr Trump has revolutionised politics. This will change discourse and policy across the free world. Most immediately, leaders have been given a huge wake-up call on the critical need to act pragmatically and decisively to bring down people’s cost of living.

Inflation 2.4% - fallen materially from its highs a couple of years ago. In the world of finance (inc sharemkt at all time highs this year) was deemed to be the perfect soft landing for the economy. Now hopefully Trump is not going to do anything STUPID to increase inflation rates by artificially increasing cost of imported goods as will also mean other cost of living pressures increase thru higher interest rates remaining to combat structurally higher inflation. I am sure he will crack down on price gouging when companies act in an anti-competitive manner like Harris was going to do.

GDP - circa 3% which is more than solid for the world’s biggest economy. Now hopefully Trump doesn't do anything STUPID by starting a trade war thru protectionist measures (ie seeing US exports reduce), inflating the cost of living and doing business thru tariffs and reducing the CAPACITY of the US businesses from agriculture to construction to hospitality by taking 10m+ of he cheapest workers out of the equation. Now being a farmer yourself, you can perhaps relate to the fact that many foreigners on 12 mth visas end up working on farms. A number of farmers I know in the Byron Bay region are either HIGHLY or TOTALLY dependent on such foreign workers as many Aussies dont want to do the hard yakka, often in scorching weather conditions whilst earning minimum wages.

Let’s audit Trumps main election promises - deporting millions of illegal immigrants, building the 98% of the southern wall he didn’t do last time and bringing in 20-60% tariffs. Let’s see if he actually does what he says and then let’s what impact it has. Time will tell and will happily follow along.

It looks like a lot of states have voted Trump for POTUS but voted Dems down ballot.
Is this them trying to have a two way bet, ie they like Trump’s bluster and shallow promises but still want to try to protect themselves from what Trump is about to do.
Also during Trump’s last few weeks before the insurrection he replaced judges (ie installing Cannon conveniently) and Trump friendly players in Military etc positions which sure looked like he was up to something.
He also refused to attend the inauguration or peacefully hand over info or power like the brat he is.
He also made millions of dollars ( so corrupt, but hey, that’s how he rolls) from pardoning big time criminals ( mobster types) who are behind him in this and his last campaign.
I am curious to see what Biden will do in his last few weeks, especially with his ‘Presidential Immunity’
It irks that he likely won’t use those powers that Trump fought so hard to get to try to get some safety rails in before the authoritarian and his power hungry tech bro take over..

Was listening to a virology podcast I follow now and then and the scientists sound concerned about what having RFK jnr running Health etc will mean. Likely an explosion in infectious diseases. He doesn’t seem to have any scientific background, more Economics and Law.
I guess he listens to cookers for his advice.

And as for removing fluoride from the water, I would say private dental practices will make a reaming in years to come.

To sum up the election this was an election decided by the dead centre of the politics and there is no doubt for a long stretch of the Biden presidency they preached to the far left and allowed them to run riot at the expense of the majority of Americans. All the while these same majority of Americans are paying a high cost of living, high gas prices and high power bills barely able to put food on the table for their children while a lot of the far left are attending college! And then the gall of the far left to punish majority of americans by threatening to cancel them if they didnt bow down to their needs.

Americans felt abandoned and Harris didnt convince them not to protest.

Time will tell though whether this was the right decision or not. But people getting all upset is just absurd.
