Maybe .. fact remains it hilarious watching folk twisting themselves into pretzels trying to explain away Elmo's salute as anything other than fascist
I'm starting to feel like a lot of people who've been firmly in the trump/musk camp are feeling slightly uncomfortable with some of their behaviours
Clearly its easier to try and convince themselves these actions are benign and are being taken out context than confront the truth

I think Kirky is right on this one, for a change. The video tells an unflattering story, given the violent thrusting leading to the salute. The still is ambiguous.

Not at all. Compare them to real KKK costumes. If any costume store sold these as KKK costumes, they should return the hiring fee.
I'll ask you a question: did these people really think they were KKK costumes, and if so, what were they trying to accomplish?

Honestly... most Filipinos, Vanuatuans, Fijians & Indonesians would have never heard of the KKK - let alone known how to dress up like the KKK.
Absolutely shocking for the (mostly Australian) passengers who would have made the KKK connection instantly - but I doubt the crew wearing the costumes had any idea what they looked like.

I think a lot of people see it for exactly what it is but like it as edgy humour, and that’s probably a lot of Elon’s intent.
At the same time nazis saw it and rejoiced. They knew exactly what they saw. And usually great things don’t follow when those types feel emboldened.
I wonder if Trumps advisors have got into his head about tarrifs. Because he obviously prides himself on his associations with the business and corporate world. And i wonder if they have got in his ear about Canada and Mexico and other countries american industry deals with placing tarrifs on american products. He has delayed the implementation from day 1 to feb 1st. Could this be a sign of back tracking. Especially as the economy is doing well right now. Will he want to screw around with tarrifs and then have to explain the economic fall out?
It was a nazi salute. No question. He grew up in SA one of the most racist countries on the planet and he grew up during apartheid. I read somewhere his father was anti apartheid etc and helped with the movement to end it, (disclaimer I dont know if true) but that in no way means Elon feels the same way. And the salute should be questioned as its used by white supremacist groups everywhere. The fact he is blaming everyone else for fake news about it, suggests there must be an element of truth to it, Why do it? He has not performed that salute anywhere in the world at any time in any of his public speeches at media events for his companies. So yeah, why do it?
My guess is, he got carried away, thinks he is in power, performed the most derogatory solute in human history as a **** you to all non whites, and has been literally ripped apart behind the scenes and now he is in damage control for ****ing up. Probably got torn to shreds by his corporate teams and brand image advisors too. His companies are now at a massive risk.
If the fall out continues, I actually see him being removed....sorry quietly resigning his post at the doge to concentrate on his 'corporate enterprises'

Its amazing how disturbing politics in general is. If this happened just 10 years ago Musk would have been ripped apart as the most hated man in the world. Now people seem to borderline almost excuse it for a MAGAISM and how its somehow not what it looks like.
My take on Elon salute - although it clearly looks like it, I’m 90% sure he didn’t mean it with Nazi intentions (that’d be low for anyone)
