Could Roughy potentially overtake Minson this year? Does he have more to offer around the ground and up forward?

Look I think Roughy is fantastic, and potentially the best ruck prospect we have unearthed in years. However, like all big men, it takes them a while to mature both physically, and in a game sense.
I would see him as Hudsons logical successor rather than Minsons. If Will's season gets off to a delayed start, he could fill the second ruck role short term, but all season is asking a bit much of the lad yet.

Sorry, but this is crap.

The kid's basically only in his second season and you're calling him a spud already? Give me a break. Grant is still developing but if you couldn't notice tha talent he had out there today, you're blind. He's got very, very good hands and he showed that again today. Delivery was poor but he certainly never dropped his head or gave up. His work rate was a big improvment on last year as he was quickly to his feet to contest the ground balls. Showed plenty of pace and his attitude to the game and taking it on was good to see.

Still needs to bulk up but he's only 20 FFS.

I have no doubt he has talent, and like I said he did take a couple of good grabs, (I was probably being harsh but that's mainly because I've had such high hopes for him) but whenever I've seen him play, he just seems to lack hunger. I hope he proves me wrong in spades, but I saw more promise from Jones in just one practice match than I've seen from Grant in three years. But in saying that, again, I really do hope he proves me wrong. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Regarding Thorne, he may have missed a few targets (like most of the team) but you can tell he's got a touch of something special by the way he moves. Hopefully can cause the opposition a few headaches in the years to come.

All in all I think we have a pretty good list at the moment and can give the flag another shake this year.

Everitt is in for a huge year. and Boumann reminds me of a tall Paul Bower sort. Could become a good 3rd defender, but will need to work on his set skills.

The crowd was the highlight though, so good too see so many come and cheer o nthe boys.

where did everitt play? in fact what positions did any player play that wasnt usual?

How did young Stack go - was he playing in the forwardline?

He played across half forward and got quite a bit of the ball, but his disposal wasn't the best (he wasn't alone with that). He looked ripped out there and now has a body ready for AFL footy.

Did Panis get a run? If so how did he go?

Panos played up forward and kicked 3, a couple of cheapies amongst that, but he did enough to show he was worthy of a rookie pick. It will be interesting to see how he develops.

Everitt played on the wing. He was torched by Moles early on who was impressive, but worked his way into the game. Andrejs looked keen to get amongst the action and moved well.

No other real positional changes.

Grant looks unfit, doesnt keep his feet, and gets pushed around easily. No way will he play in Rockets best 22.

Moles, Hooper, Panos all didnt get much of a look in (Hooper only came on in the last q), but didnt do anythiong wrong. Panos finds space well.

Feel free to disagree others who went.

Moles was one of the standout players on the ground.

Grant looks to have put on a fair bit of muscle and has improved his fitness.

Only played a half i think, maybe 3 quarters. Looked pretty good, lots of good pick ups. Shane Thorne is a far better chance to play though.

Stack is miles ahead of Thorne in terms of fitness & body shape. I doubt very much we will see Thorne in Bulldogs colours this year whereas Stack will definitely play games.

Harbrow didn't play, he had a cortisone injection in his illotibial band. It's not an injury I know much about, apart from it's common with distance runners. No real idea how big a setback it is or how long he'll be affected (days/weeks/all season....playing but sore).

It's not a major thing, it's one of those annoying niggle injuries. Nothing structural.

Hopefully the cortisone injection will fix it (reduce the inflammation) and he should be able to work back up to fitness (depends how long he's been bothered by it, might not take long).

He'll play this season no doubt. Even if he needs surgery to release the band it's only about 10 days before they can run again and would just need to get back up to fitness from there.

As an aside After the game Boyd,Gilbee,Griffen,Williams,Callen and Addison flew down to the Sports Bar in Launceston.
They were membership promoting [not a great turnup]

Just said the usual, everyone fittest and hardest the,ve trained ever and no injuries in the match

Must admit they look bulked and really fit especially Griff and Boydy

I had a pretty decent bout of this (illio-tibial band tendonitis) last year. It's a very common injury in long distance runners, of which I am. I'm sure the club has it under control, but it can be a VERY FRUSTRATING injury - it took me 6 months and a lot of rehab to get rid of it completely. It produces a pretty painful 'burn' down the side of the knee which really affects one's running motion.
Unfortunately the only real cure is rest and I had to stop running for pretty much all of those 6 months.

Being a "stop-start" sport with not a lot of consistent running at a single pace, hopefully he should get through it and have it under control by the H&A season. But i'd be surprised if we see much of him on the track over the next 3-4 weeks if he is having injections into the band.

Just like the above post, I too had a ITB problems a couple of pre-seasons ago, it just about ruined my entire pre-season and the start of the season.

It was a nightmare, nobody except for one specialist (whom only works amongst tennis players on the ATP tour, I was lucky that a family member of mine knew him and he sorted me out from home) was able to help me.

Let's hope Jarrod can shake this injury quick smart, one can only be optimistic.

Moles - Really is the definition of ready made made mature recruit. Looked at home against some of the Bulldogs elite players.

Tutt - Doesn't look like a 'footballer' but looks like he can play like one. Won't get to many free kicks for over the neck as he doesn't have one. Always looking to get involved in the play.

Addison - Was typical DFA hard at it. Made a few skill errors but looks like he stepped it up a gear.

Cooney - Does look lighter, or maybe even quicker. Looks like he's put last years pedestrian injury effected season behind him.

Liam Jones - Looks like forward, plays like a forward. Had some of the best defenders in the AFL to compete with but doesn't look lost out there. Put him in the oven for another year or two and he should be properly cooked.

Jarrad Grant - Looked completely lost. Positioning was terrible and I can't recall him winning a contest all day. Slow and looks nervous. I'd say he lacks the will to keep his feet but maybe it's simply he doesn't have the skills despite trying his hardest.

Roughead - With Skipper gone Roughead takes the reins as fallback boy. Had a good hit out and looks AFL ready.

Aker - Picked up where he left off. Age not wearying him.

Hall - I was standing on dirt mound opposite the grandstand on the wing and got a good look at an overhead mark on the lead. I, like everyone else gasped when it stuck in the big fella's mits. It was as if it was the first time we'd ever seen that.... a little chill went up my spine :)

Boumann - Very impressed with this kids game. Looks like a more agile, Tom Williams(ok bout the same agility). Looked motivated and covered a lot of ground including a nice run off the half back line. Even when he didn't have the ball he was positioning himself and trying to get involved. Those were the most positive signs.

Cross - Appeared effected by his pre-season injury problems. Not at 100% fitness I wouldn't think. Still diving under packs and finding the impossible handball but might be a month or so away from full fitness.

These are just my opinions and I'm sure they differ to others but I'm happy to answer any questions.

I know people are saying 'give him time' etc which is fair enough but the early signs are not good! When you stuff up a top 10 draft pick it can have consequences years down the track. Let's hope he's not another Tim Walsh stuff up??
