His season last year was worthy of a Brownlow, if he had not taken any banned substances.

He has admitted he did take a banned substance, so I'd think the AFL will have to take it off him in the interests of integrity of the game.
You need to reconsider what he admitted to.

Out of curiosity, if he won it this year, which is a distinct possibility, would you applaud given the club has removed the irregular practices since Dank was shown the door?

AOD-9604 works by mimicking the way natural GH regulates the metabolism of fat by stimulating lipolysis (the breakdown or destruction of fat) and inhibits lipogenesis (the transformation of non-fat food materials into body fat). Reports by Caldaza Ltd have shown that AOD-9604 had positive (anabolic) effects on cartilage tissue formation as well as enhancements in the ‘differential of muscle progenitor cells (cells that create muscle cells) to muscle cells’. Other purported benefits of AOD-9604 include increasing muscle mass and IGF-1 levels. AOD-9604 is not approved for human use.

In share market parlance it's called pump and dump. Believe at your financial peril.

So the ACC report in Feb 2013 quotes research by Caldaza.

Interesting how Caldaza then released this in April 2013:

"in-vitro, pre-clinical and human clinical testing of AOD9604 provide clear scientific and medical evidence that AOD9604 does not increase Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1) levels. Furthermore, there is no evidence that AOD9604 dosing increases the number of muscle or cartilage cells".

Howdy chaps, long time reader, first time poster. I've been following this whole scandal for some months now and like the rest of you have been watching with interest as new bits of information are released and new excuses are made.

As a lawyer with experience in sports law, I feel the need to call-up some very naive and deluded Essendon fans who are sheepishly clinging to the hope that some "deal" has been struck between the Bombers and the AFL or ASADA or WADA or some other authority. Let me clarify that there are no "deals" in this area of sports law, other than those negotiated between athletes and ASADA/WADA to reduce the sanction (but not eliminate it) for assisting authorities and/or dobbing other athletes in. WADA has classified AOD-9604 under S0 of the WADA Prohibited List as a "Prohibited Substance" - as such possible reductions of sanction under 10.4 of the Code are not applicable as these only apply to the use of "Specified Substances".

As many of you are now aware, it is no defence to say that you thought the drug was legal, even if the drug was administered by a doctor. In fact the notes pursuant to 10.5.1 of the Code state that no reductions will be offered where the prohibited substance was administered by "the Athlete’s personal physician or trainer without disclosure to the Athlete."

There are many many examples and precedents over the years similar to this one - and the resounding message from WADA is that ignorance is no excuse and that they WILL punish athletes whether there was an intention to dope or not. Some on this board and elsewhere have suggested that Essendon are negotiating with ASADA for a lenient outcome where no players will be banned. THIS IS NOT HOW THE SYSTEM WORKS. Even if ASADA were foolish enough to broker such a deal (which won't happen), big brother WADA will come along and make sure the penalties are maximised. The AFL is a signatory of the WADA code, and WADA will have the final say on this matter. They will not be lenient, they will not be brokering any deals, and they WILL make sure any player who took AOD-9604 will be banned. The length of the ban will vary in individual circumstances but can be as low as six months.

If you are an Essendon fan and you are hopelessly deflecting on this board, be warned, you are about to feel the full weight of WADA and its extensive powers. It may not be this week or next, but it will happen. Suggesting otherwise will only make the penalties hurt more when they come.

There's also little doubt that fines, draft penalties and premiership point deductions must be enforced by the AFL. Jobe Watson's admission last night that he was receiving an unprecedented number of injections is astounding. The AFL has been embarrassed by Essendon's actions and will take harsh measures to ensure this never happens again.
Thank you for bringing your legal expertise to the discussion and helping us to understand the issues.

The "Black Market" use of AOD9604 During calendar 2010 Calzada released two statements to the Australian Securities Exchange regarding "black market" sales of AOD9604. The announcements stated that AOD9604 was being manufactured in China and elsewhere and sold into various countries around the world - in direct contravention of the Company’s patent position.

Nice find. interesting that the one company contradicts itself

You would have to be really dense to use any of their products

Dirty rotten cheats....lets be honest...we all know the dons midfield is pedestrian at best and they needed to juice up to mix it with the elite players in the comp...jobe's admissions are staggering...feel for him and his teammates but they signed off on it..he won a brownlow on juice which will now need to be returned and he can have 2014 off while essendon field a development side and play for no premiership points...that's what is deserved...as far as we are aware no other club has flaunted with the boundary and crossed it like these cheating scum bags....i mean how does Hibberd, howlett and these sort of characters go from being dog average footballers to running, carrying machines in 12 months?? The answer is obvious and the book should be thrown...

It's called working your butt off during the off season and getting the best out of your self.

Calzada proposed AOD may benefit repair by promoting cartilage growth but research has since found it doesn't. I'd say the ACC report didnt include the latest research.

And some people want to inject this into young males with the research being incomplete

They should be locked up.
