For the record, i'm not sure if they do this anymore, but apple a few years ago had a 30 day return policy regardless of reason. I bought a brand spanking new iPod photo, 3 weeks later they released the video for only an extra 30 bucks. I tried to complain but they wouldn't even let me, just said return it and for 30 bucks they swapped it for me.:thumbsu:

Not sure if they do that now, though...maybe someone can shed some light, but one this for sure is apple has always and still does have great customer service.

Very latest iPad 3 rumour

http://www.macrumors.com/2011/07/26...-in-face-of-increasing-number-of-competitors/

September is probably a good time for future iPhone and iPad releases given that it's back-to-school time for the US and also timely for Christmas purchases. Then again, if Apple want to maximise the number of people that will buy both, it's probably better to release the iPad in the 1st half of each year.

I agree. Jobs said that 2011 was the year of iPad 2, so if there is any release in September, I think it will be an iPad 2.5, some incremental update, with an iPad 3 in Q2 of 2012.

Mrs is keen on an ipad for her birthday so doing some research.

I have an iphone which is OK, but I'm not sure on an ipad as she's looking for it to replace her laptop. I've been told that it can't play typical media content (avi, mpg, etc) and you have to convert them to apple standard to play on the ipad. Is that correct? I would have thought there are apps available that would allow you to just play typical content without converting?

I've also heard that ipad2 can't be jailbroken, is that correct?

Got an AVL player app and it plays all movie formats okay.
Conversion is necessary if you want to play it through the iPod movie player.
Haven't been able to put mine down. It replaces a laptop if you want to use the Internet but typical PC functions like word processing it is not designed for.
Having said that, I've only used the laptop once since I got the iPad and that was to sync it and download my library.

Yeah that's also a factor, in that to do any real work like developing a powerpoint presentation or editing photos/videos then you still need a laptop/mac

i jailbroke my ipad 1 a while back.. found that tehre wasnt much to do with it because most of the jailbreak features are designed for the iphone..

could be wrong though.. im hardly an expect when it comes to jailbreaking..

Jailbreaking an ipad is simple, just go to http://www.jailbreakme.com// and it takes less than a minute.
Only works up to IOS 4.3.3 which is no good for me as I'm on 4.3.5. Just tried to downgrade the IOS from 4.3.5 to 4.3.3 but no go, so looks like I'll have to wait until the 4.3.5 JB becomes available.

Don't know if this has been mentioned yet (CBF going through the whole thread) but last night I realized that the iPad2 couldn't be charged from PC via USB because the power whore iPad requires more juice to be charged than what a PC USB puts out. Fortunately there is a fix available from ASUS that apparently works on most PCs to pump more juice out to the iPad via USB. I installed it last night on her non-ASUS PC and it worked fine.

Anyone got the tapatalk app for iPad? Awesome if you use bigfooty and other forums on your iPad... Much better than accessing through the browser...

I almost prefer using tapatalk rather than a browser on a pc/Mac...

Does jailbreaking void warranties etc... ?

Technically yes, as Apple would argue that Jailbreaking uses 3rd party software (that they don't support) to modify the phone.
However, Jailbreaking is reversible if you restore to a clean IOS using DFU mode. If you do that then it will be like a new phone, keeping the warranty in tact.
