Irritating people/things that annoy you in the gym

1. Female personal trainer helped me with bench spot cos was only one there. Thought I'd completed 4 sets at a pretty good weight. Next workout a week later, didn't even come close to completing the set. I asked if she was holding the bar. She said no. But quite clearly she was helping me with the lift. That pissed me off. I really need a reliable training partner. The last 4 sessions my mate has not rocked up, slept in. Not interested, got pissed over the weekend. I'm lifting 70KG on the bench he's lifting 30.

2. Lady today at the gym beat me to the squat rack by a matter of minutes. Then for the next 15 Bloody minutes was talking to some guy leaning on the rack. Damn that pisses me off. If I was a jerk I would have gone up to her and smugly said "Are you finished yet"

You have to nip that in the bud. Once the regulars and semi-regulars know that you won't stand for that shit, they won't do it to you and if enough people tell them, they won't do it at all. If someone still keeps doing it, tell the staff. **** waiting.

There are many annoying things/people at gym, but space invaders is the most common thing that drives me to despair. People standing next to you and exercising when you are dumbbell pressing and there is plenty of room, wandering around your area unneccessarily when you are psyching yourself up for a lift or mid-lift and personal trainers believing they and their clients have a superior level of importance to use the gym, or can barge in on your space to do some ridiculous exercise.

It's like you cop it more if you have etiquette and just go to do your own thing without fuss in the gym.

Why is that being a jerk? Don't all gyms have policies about resting on equipment?

I have no problem asking people to get off equipment they aren't using. Don't see anything wrong with it. You're there to bust your arse for 45 mins not to make friends... ;)

Had this happen last Thursday, crowding my bench for dumbell presses.
Missing their client with a dumbell by about a millimetre seemed to sort the situation out ;)

They could argue the person having the PT session is more entitled to the space because they are paying more than the rest of us (i.e. PT sessions on top of their membership).

Bullshit excuse but they'd probably get away with it in most cases.

Just ask if you can work in between. Normally gets the point across. No need to be aggro or jerkish about it really. People obviously just carried away with their conversation.

Today at gym in the free weights section their was 6 Indians who were friends, they spent the entire 45mins while I was in my session doing bicep curls it did my head in!! Nothing wrong with doing biceps curls but the method and technique being used was just laughable. Also irritating how they use the benches to assist them (incline/flat).

lol since I've started doing arms day I wonder if someone is gonna pull me up. Not to mention almost every other exercise on other days is like.. Squats/Deads/Rows/Bench/Incline Bench/Military Press etc.

I've mixed it up and started doing a bis and tris day .. has worked really well the past 2 weeks so will see how it goes. Unfortunately walking in and not doing deads etc before bis feels weird and I'm conscious of it! :p

Those blokes that chuck their weights down with ridiculous amounts of force after finishing a set. Often accompanied with a grunt or some audible, incomprehensible noise.

Should've seen the looks I got this morning doing a legs only day

(Changing up the routine to an upper/lower split for a few weeks).

I'm lucky enough to be at a pretty no nonsense gym (lack of posers is :thumbsu:) but it still surprises me at the minimal number of people who do serious leg exercises, leg curls and leg extensions are about the extent of it

These are off a single thread from another forum.. Basically reasons why people don't do deadlifts.. Very amusing..

i dropped them over a year ago as the only thing that was growing from them was my obliques
my back development is better now than it was while including deads
for me, the problem with deads is that you can adjust the way in which you lift too easily to play to any shortcommings..
I find them too energy intensive to be able to get the maximum out of a back workout
If I skip them then I have a more even flow of energy throughout all other lifts
i dont think its needed at all, a muscle can be worked in many ways
its not that great of a back exercise as a lot try to make out, bentover rows and chins will build more size than deads will imo.
it thickens things you dont want thickened
I don't do them every back session anymore. I find that my traps get out of proportion.

Wow. just wow. I fuaaarking love deadlifts.

^^.

I'm happy because I just cracked 1.5xbw. I know you obviously lift the most with your deads, but the general feeling after doing them of being physically exhausted is pretty rare in the gym for a single exercise.

Squats maybe, but it's definitely the most satisfying imo.

Couple of guys cracked me up today, they had 60-70kg racked on the leg ext machine and then were interchanging that with 20kg squats... wtf?
