Irritating people/things that annoy you in the gym

^^.

I'm happy because I just cracked 1.5xbw. I know you obviously lift the most with your deads, but the general feeling after doing them of being physically exhausted is pretty rare in the gym for a single exercise.

Squats maybe, but it's definitely the most satisfying imo.

I'm at 160kg dead at 85kg, sooo close to double bw!

That's damn impressive.
I'm back down to 85kg and have a 4 rp max at 145kg on my last working set, managed 1RM at 155kg but that was when I weighed closer to 90kgs.

I'll blame long femurs and be done with it

See, I've always been a bit of a stick lol, definitely the 'weak guy' in comparison to mates who are just big/strong, play rugby etc.

I've only really been training in the gym solidly for 6 months and, while I congratulate the guy, I'm really interested as to peoples ratios (not per bw necessarily, but exercise to exercise, if that makes sense). I've gone from~60kgs to 75kgs (a bit longer than just at the gym though), and I'm frustrated with my bench (1rm around 1xbw) but I went easily to 1.0-1.3/4bw deadlift.

Long and the short, I'm gonna make a thread, you guys post there! :p

I still don't know why I can ohpress almost my bodyweight, but would definitely struggle to bench 80. Can deadlift 100kgs easily (for reps), 1rm probably 120ish?. Hrmmm

Yeah bro 1rm. To be honest it's not amazing impressive compared to some but I'm happy enough. Took a week off deads this week as my back wasn't feeling 100% but it'll be better for the rest I'm sure.
Nah mate definitely something to be proud of 2xbw is within reach :thumbsu:

Slightly OT but what's everyone's thoughts on using your 6RM (or similar) to calculate the 1RM. Is it reliable or only really to be used as a guide until you actually give the weight a serious crack?

Not my pic, but explains what i hate perfectly... put your ****ing weights back! i dont really care about weight plates so much, but dumbells/barbells or when they take the bars off the benchpress/squat racks to use elsewhere and dont put them back... grr.

I work out at a 24 hour gym at 4AM - it is heaven, no one is there, all the weights are in place and ready to go. I have a panic attack if i train in normal hours.

I'd love to do that, although I can't imagine being awake at that hour (coming from someone who generally is awake at 2am) could be a healthy thing!

I have trained myself to do it. its not bad if its just three days a week. Cardio days are shorter and then I have two rest days

I'm the opposite, bench 1.1-1.2 x bw, squats are 55-60%, oh.press (take it that's overhead press, ie shoulders) maybe 30-40% ?

Never had any problem with the chest.

it's one thing to have an estimated 1 rep max and a completely different thing to have actually lifted that 1 rep max

so do what the nike ads say

-Another hater of the grunters (STFU)
-People who generally piss fart around or talk/socialise loudly, I'm trying to concentrate ffs
-There's a guy at my gym who does the massive circuit of the gym using like 15 different pieces of equipment but if you're utilising some of 'his' equipment when he comes around he can get a pretty shity

Agree with this. Hate having blokes leave their towel on one piece of equipment, whilst going into a another room to work on something else.

Also can't stand the posers, who ensure they say hello/goodbye to every single female in the gym.

on the contrary dont you love running on the tredmill behind a lovely lass? before you know it you've run for an hour!

full length mirrors can be annoying. particularly when trying to catch a glimpse of a fit person of the opposite sex. too easy to get busted.

and similarly hot females who workout right in front of mirrors. hard to concentrate, especially when they're doing squats.

Ditto hot females doing push ups. Mirin cleavage?

- Guys that go to the gym to check out females

Either go there to exercise, or go socialise. I hate people treating the gym as another social scene. Small chit chat, sure, but anything else irritates me.

good point. although if they wanna pay shitloads of $$$ just to rock up and check out chicks the gym are the only ones laughing.

u know what else is annoying? trying to discontinue your membership!

Chubby guy who ego lifts telling me the "strange exercise" I was doing could hurt my back.

They're called deadlifts buddy - google it and you might actually put on a kilo after 12 months of trying.

It continues to be about space, you can do dumbbell curls away from the rack so people don't have to walk around and avoid you when they are taking out and carrying their reasonably heavy dumbbells back to do chest press.

I don't care about others ogling females, I covertly do it myself occasionally between sets, but I find it unnerving and disturbing when you see someone gawking and monitoring when you are preparing to do a lift. I'm talking about the overly curious or competitive male at the gym.

I block others socialising out with headphones and an introverted focus, but if they are doing it while taking up space of valuable gym real estate then it is very annoying.

This thread is due for a resurrection...

From this morning's session..
Skinny young punks that
- dick around with their hair in the mirrors
- finish the typical biceps and triceps only session and act like they've just had the toughest workout of all time
- have the protein shake ready to go thinking it will actually do something
- get their mates to take photos of them while pretending to do something else on their phone.
