Irritating people/things that annoy you in the gym

Gym now has aspirational bodybuilders. Now I'm all for that, one of them I get along with real well, but others walk around thinking they are absolute top shit.

Literally use to talk to the others every time I was in the gym, however now, after their first comp, they have time for just about no-one. Laughable really.

Women that scowl when I'm ogling them.. as if I'd bother looking if half your **** and arse weren't hanging out you hypocrites!!!

People who throw their dumbbells after an "intense" set. Absolutely shits me, some guy almost hit me with a flying dumbbell the other day.

If you can throw a weight so far, surely the need for the excessive grunting during a set isn't needed.

1. Novelty training techniques - Nothing worse than when your training partner who thinks he knows more than you comes in and says, "we should do this workout" and shows you a workout that consists of ridiculous compound moves in tri-sets with other ridiculous compound moves totalling over 50 reps.

2. Talking - Shut the f.uck up and train.

3. Incorrect technique on chin ups - I couldn't care less about someone doing dumbbell curls and using their body to swing the weight up, their loss. But when I see someone swinging on a chin up bar to get 10 reps, I go insane.

4. Crucifix curls in a packed gym - Seriously, eat a dick. That is a ridiculously advanced movement and if you're doing it, you better be on juice and have your IFBB pro ticket.

5. Juice bashers - No, I'm not on juice. But I know people who are and they work 3 times as hard as I do. They drink 8L of water a day and eat twice as much as I do. They don't go on because they're not happy with where their body is at, they go on because they're so consumed by bettering themselves constantly. It's stupid in some cases but in most that I've come across - admirable. Let them take their juice without the criticism.

I could go on all day but 5 should be enough for now. :thumbsu:

Almost.

I dunno, I just get really frustrated I guess. When I started gym, I was made to do all body weight stuff before I could touch the weights. I could barely do 3 full wide grip chinups. Now days I rep out at 22 on the first set, something I'm pretty proud of. To see someone jump on a chins bar and virtually launch themselves upward through the use of momentum, finish their set and look around to see who was watching, with their chest puffed out. Gahhh, I laughed at first but now I fume.

Yes, I am thinking of one person in particular. Hahaha

i think for your own wellbeing you should approach them and tell them big brother style it makes you mad and frustrated and affects your time at the gym!

Giving them an alternative exercise, I like it.

I actually have some pics from some people at a large gym with 2 bosus on top of each other on top of a bench doing some squats with a kettlebell in 1 hand. Now how does that sound to people:D

So how many one handed overhead kettlebell bosubosu bench squats can you do?

If you're doing 22 reps why don't you start doing weighted chin ups?

Congrats for being able to do 22 though, very good

I have. I can just get sets of 8 with a 10kg dumbbell between my ankles.

To Sam - just over 75kgs at the moment. Standing at 5'11, I'm not a big lad in any sense of the word but I'm getting there.

Providing your gym has a squat belt and a chain use the chain to attach plates to the belt. So much better than trying to wrestle a dumb bell with your feet.

At the moment I do 15kg weighted chins but moving up to 20kg on my next back workout. Should be able to get out 6-8 reps.

FYI I'm 180cm 80kg

- Guys that go to the gym to check out females

Either go there to exercise, or go socialise. I hate people treating the gym as another social scene. Small chit chat, sure, but anything else irritates me.
Let me guess, you are a woman, with all the superficiality and insecurity that implies

You get all pissed off if a guy dares look at you and then start pouting when the good looking guy won't give you a 2nd glance

Try working on your self image instead of your body and you might just become a decent human being instead of another sweaty loser that will never be happy with herself or the poor bastard that has the misfortune to end up with someone that hates themself

Wow, you got that fairly wrong...

And to the bloke who can do 22 chin ups, but only 8 weighted (10kg's) that's a fairly poor ratio...

Are you sure you're not the one swinging without the weight at your ankles?

Pez, sets of 8. I could probably rep out to around 14 or 15 with the 10kg dumbbell but I try and get sets. Tonight I did 4 sets without too much trouble. I guess I'll either up the weight or up the reps again next week. And I should mention that I warm up with a set of 15 (no weight).

Showdownhero, not sure if we have a weight belt with the chain. I see some guys using them but I always assumed that they owned them. I train with a partner who puts the weight between my ankles and I'm fine with that, just as easy I reckon.

Much, much easier with the belt and chain.

What's your goal? Why stop at 8 reps if you're doing it on your ear?

My goal at the moment is to get to 80kgs. I have various lifting goals (and ultimately with my chin ups I'd like to get to 30 chins before reassessing). I push myself fairly hard but sometimes I'll realise that I've been doing something wrong after a few weeks. Like right now, instead of doing the 4 sets of 8, I probably should've been doing a heavier weight and repping to failure. With some drop sets for good measure. It all seems to be working for me at this stage anyway and the main thing is that I'm happy with my form, I'm really pedantic about my form. Heck, I'm really pedantic about everything but that's a story for another day. :p
