As that is what Essendon are asking for.
What do you think he's worth?

You would think Carlton will trade their second round pick (24) for Andrew Lovett, if the Warnock negotiations fall over plus their fourth round draft pick.

Carlton - Lovett
Essendon - 2nd round and 4th round draft pick.

Essendon can use these picks to aquire Adam Thompson

I believe (or just hope) Essendon will not trade Lovett, simply because I don't think any other club will be willing to give up what Essendon thinks he is worth. With another year on a contract, and no desire on his part to leave, the Bombers have no need to "settle" for something less than they want such as WC had to with Judd.
I'm not convinced any contending teams will think he's the player they need to take the next step, and developing teams won't be parting with high draft picks.
In short, he is worth more to Essendon than he is to any other club.

Andrew Lovett IS NOT worth a first round pick. This years draft is a very strong draft and with the gold coast team coming in clubs will be less willing to give up there picks.

I think even if this years draft prospects were average at best and there was no gold coast team coming in, he still would not be worth a first rounder.

I think that Lovett in this years draft is worth a late seccond rounder or early third rounder. I honestly don't think that Essendon will get much more then what i have stated for him.

I agree.

Whats he done to deserve anything higher than a 2nd rounder? One ANZAC day performance?
Hes almost 26, apart from a few spurts of brilliance, hes over-rated imo. I think most Bomber fans would agree.

I wouldn't have thought we could get a first round pick for him but i see no reason why we couldn't get a 2nd round pick out of him.

Could really contribute to a side that is around the 8 and wants to move forward. Good user of the ball and lightning speed don't come around too often, especially ones that can play straight away and is relativly injury free.

Would think its 50/50 on him staying or going at the moment.

Definitely.

Look at drafting history and Lovett is a lot better than players that have been drafted at around the mark.

Funny how Carlton people are saying no when he ripped apart their side this year. :thumbsu:

10-20 or he stays. I'd prefer to keep him rather than trade anyway.

There aren't many Carlton supporters that would publicly admit they haven't won a game in 7 years, let alone admit an opposition player ripped them apart.

Lovett should stay. Knights wants to look like a hard man by ending careers of guys who won't be around in 5 years, but if he really wanted to make tough decisions he would have got rid of Laycock.
Lovett at Essendon suits both parties.

knights is looking to build a culture of professionalism and preperation. that's why lovett is under fire. tom hislop too. got nothing to do with finishing guys 5 years early. hislop has 12 years of footy in him based on age, but his attitude is being questioned. as is lovetts.

Essendon have burnt many bridges over the years at trade time and this will count against them.

I have heard Miller, Thomas and Brereton all recently say the one side that speaks B.S at trade time is Essendon and every club is aware of it.

Lovett is 25 with a heap of off field dramas and someone that has had difficulty fitting in with AFL expectations.

He is not worth a First Round pick.

So it's perfectly normal for a club like Hawthorn to offload two guys with depression yet not say a word about it.

That was with Sheedy at the helm.

Knights is currently trying to repair all that damage by being open, upfront and honest about every possible trade.

Those saying Lovett is not worth a first rounder, why are you so confident? Any given team will judge who is worth what, Dodoro has stated that he has had low first round offers - clearly some clubs agree. Lovett is contracted so Essendon aren't going to let him go for a second-rounder who may or may not turn into a good footballer.

I think Essendon are demanding a first rounder because ultimately they want to keep Lovett.

By demanding a first rounder that they know no-one will give they can then turn to Andrew and tell him that he is only at the club because no-one else wants him. Show him that he is not indispensable and hopefully kicks his attitude into gear.

I get the feeling clubs are increasingly wanting to stick to the draft. You need to continually bring in new blood from the draft, even if you fancy your premiership chances, or there is the danger of ending up like Freo, no real success and an old list.

Real gun players will still move, ruckman and KPPs will move since they are rarer, and players worth a 3rd or 4th rounder or just free in the PSD will move, but trading of 1st and 2nd round picks for okay midfielders won't happen.

kevin sheedy and most of his offsiders are no longer at the club anymore though - more of these guys at fremantle now.

I don't think Lovett is worth a first round pick, but I suppose if someone was stupid enough to give that then hoorah.

That was Sheedy. Knights has made it perfectly clear that if we're interested in a player or trade we are open and not pulling any strings.
