Lade beat Ottens at AAMI. Ottens beat Lade at SS and in the finals.

McIntosh crushed Geelong in round 5, but Ottens wasn't playing so it's unfair to comment. Ottens beat him by a little bit later in the year, and smashed him in the finals.

And to whoever was using the prelim final as an example.... remember who he was rucking against. :D
Fair comments.
However Hindsight is a positive step for Collingwood's future.
Geelong could counter that boring argument with- we should have put you away in the 3rd quarter. However we kept kicking points, which kept you in the game.

I still think Maccas season last year was very underrated. For a bloke who came to the club well overweight and could not bench press 40kgs, his improvement has been massive. Gut runs like no other and is very valuable to our midfield which lacks polish. He brings plenty of polish to the table and gets a ridiculous amount of handball receives. Still needs to do a lot of work on his taps, and work on the hitouts to advantage. That will come though.

I don't really rate him as a ruckman as much as a key forward although i will acknowledge his great season last year. However i would still rate the likes of Cox, McIntosh, white, Lade and probably josh Fraser ahead of him.

It's interesting to note that the best ruckmen are quite often associated with the "best midfield players" guys like Judd, Kerr, Cousins (Cox), and Geelong's midfield last year, Ablett, Bartel, etc. (Ottens).

It's no coincidence, but it it good ruckmen making midfielders look better, good mids making a ruckman look better, or a mix of the two?

On a St. Kilda note, we had Ackland and Knobel who were rated as half decent ruckmen, traded/delisted them and they did absolutely nothing at other clubs.

Any one who thinks Ottens is better than White is kidding themselves.

Obviously Cox is number 1 and Lade and White are 2nd and 3rd(what order you put Lade and White in is up to you)

Ottens is a very good ruckman but Cox, Lade and White are defienitly ahead of him.....

Any one who sais Ottens is better than White is kidding themselves White is easily in the top three ruckman.

Obviously Cox is number 1 and Lade and White are 2nd and 3rd(what order you put Lade and White in is up to you)

Lade is shiteloads better than White. Though White is a good ruckman.

Sorry dude, you couldn't be more wrong. He's not a forward at all. We tried that and it failed. Last year for the first time they played him as a ruckman only and we won the flag.

I said it in my earlier post but I'll repeat it once more.......

Ottens played in the ruck in 22 games for Geelong last year.
We won 21 of them.

Knobel was pretty good in 2005 but barely got on the park after that. Gave us nothing around the ground but as a relief ruckman he would've been ideal.

Oh i guess that MAGICALLY makes him a better ruckmen?

well yes it is a factor. Why wouldnt it be ? im not saying its the be all and end all but its the factor that got him over the line.I dont know how you could say being close to the player of the finals and beating lade and hamish in the finals isnt a factor

Disagree with this. Fraser is better around the ground and up forward. Ottens does soundly beat him in the ruck though.

true fraser is good around the ground. The thing is with ottens is that excluding cox he is the ruckman that is closest to the complete package.Top kick, great mark, can play tall up forward and do a reasonable job,is reasonably athletic, wins more than his fair share of hit outs and is a proven big game performer in fact he only gets better when the pressure is on.These facts combined make him the 2nd best. All you guys who list mcintosh have got to be kiddning as he has never performed well on the big stage.

so that would make aaron keating a living great and the greatest ruckmen at the time in 1997 with your logic right? he hasnt been consistent for years only 2 out of his 9 where he played superbly. the rest have been mediocre at best. needs a few in a row before you can consider him 2nd best, lade, white, and fraser are better than him in terms on consistency and their eliteness.

keating didnt play as big a role as ottens did in the finals and he wasnt as good a player.

I rate Robbie Campbell more high then Ottens, however, might be a little bias. The work ethic in him, regardless of how the game is going is top notch. Just look at the Elimination Final last yr. Buddy gets the credit, but who started most of the run forward? it was big bob

:eek::D:D Might be a little biased?

To the OP, no he is not the second best ruck in the league. The bloke that had him 4th to 6th is about right. If he has another year like last year then maybe he goes up a little.

this is ridiculous

MATE!...grab a tape of the 2007 prelim and watch Ottens singlehandedly put Geelong into the Grand Final...and he did it around the ground...especially in the final 10 minutes

Disagree with this. Fraser is better around the ground and up forward. Ottens does soundly beat him in the ruck though.
