The senior coach is an important club figure and a legitimate topic of discussion. It's fair to do so and everyone has a right to express their view.

The mod team observed that the thread was dominated by a few protagonists and their points were repeated i.e. 8 years of regression vs marked improvement in 17,18 etc Pretty much everyone with a strong opinion has already expressed it here.

What further degraded discussion was the simplistic "sack FIGJAM" or "he's a legend" type posts.

This thread will remain open. If your view has slightly shifted or you have new thoughts please share. In an effort to encourage quality discussion repetitive statements and circular arguments will from now on be deleted as will silly posts suggesting that we sack a coach on match-day.

Ben Dixon on fox footy just called Nathan the next Clarko in terms of his footy IQ.

Seriously.....they’re all trolling us now and hiding it like they believe in it.
You have pulled out one sentence Dixon made. Dixon related to about Bucks football knowledge, not his coaching. He indicated Bucks is over coaching the team and sucking life out of it and has the impact to seriously damage the youngsters and their development. They indicated the issue is the game plan

These are very damming comments against a senior coach. When you read comments like this you wonder how could the club even contemplate extending Bucks.

If l was GW and Co. I would be making the call on Bucks future now. I would advise Bucks either way, as to whether or not he will be extended. If not, then give him the option to move on now or stay until seasons end. If he is renewed then this will release the pressure valve, give the club some clear air, and direction for the future. Also if Bucks isn't renewed but decides to stay until the end of the season or is renewed now, he needs to coach the boys with a more positive gameplan with an eye on the future of the club.

“NB: We want to win games of footy, but the feeling in the sheds is that we are playing a brand of football that we’re more confident in + more positive about, compared to 1-2 months ago. While that’s not getting wins, the players energy and enthusiasm remained for the match”

just set a record for lack of goals, continuing a trend for 18months and this is his presser comments. read what you will from that.
In 10 years he will still say the same and naive people here will keep insisting he is the ONE

Some talk the Pies might be making a coach decision in the bye week.
Bye week is often the trigger as far as timing on things.
I‘ve suspected that’s when the board challengers will show their face too.

Extending his contract shouldn't be considered as an option.

End of story.

From The Age's Michael Gleeson, who is a Collingwood supporter:

"The unwatchables

If people weren’t suffering enough in ‘Lockdown 4.0’, they had to endure the horrible, turgid, almost unwatchable display of Collingwood-Geelong.

It was perplexing, again, to hear the Collingwood coach say afterwards that the team was playing a better brand of football. The brand that delivered one goal in three quarters was a brand to challenge even the true believers. Yes, they were inaccurate but the slow, sideways ball movement and adventureless play was excruciating to watch.

The Magpies’ late flurry of goals was in some ways irrelevant because they came in junk time. In another way, they suggested that - as with last week against Port Adelaide - only once the game was lost and had to be won did the team find some urgency."

That one sentence is also ridiculous in its own right.

Bucks' presser this week will be interesting listening. I'm sure all the criticism of the gamestyle and gameplan will be front and centre...

All accurate. Also mentioned that Buckley should allow players to showcase their natural ability.

The non progression of most of the players proves that this ability and X factor is being sucked out of them.

His game plan could grab the best midfielder in the game and make them into a plodder.

He'll have some indecipherable, managerial speak plucked from a "workshop" run by new age "change agents" to perplex and charm the assembled hordes who will hit their iPads with "jeez he's freaking eloquent" and off we go again :(

True, but it does a hell of a lot worse to anybody playing in the forward line. This is why we shouldn't go crazy at trade time if we are changing coaches.
A lot of these players will be set free & possibly thrive under a new coach & game plan.
