Is Buckley A Good Coach?

The senior coach is an important club figure and a legitimate topic of discussion. It's fair to do so and everyone has a right to express their view.

The mod team observed that the thread was dominated by a few protagonists and their points were repeated i.e. 8 years of regression vs marked improvement in 17,18 etc Pretty much everyone with a strong opinion has already expressed it here.

What further degraded discussion was the simplistic "sack FIGJAM" or "he's a legend" type posts.

This thread will remain open. If your view has slightly shifted or you have new thoughts please share. In an effort to encourage quality discussion repetitive statements and circular arguments will from now on be deleted as will silly posts suggesting that we sack a coach on match-day.

Kozzie was there last year too remember? When the Dees were a shambles and played scared footy? Mark Williams has given a few boys down at the Demons some "spine", they've missed out on any "big injuries" to date and they're all playing with confidence. Amazing what you can sometimes do when you realise that someone believes in you.....

Tomlinson did his ACL I think.

Found his niche playing half back. He apparently asked the Good if he could have a crack.. The Good said.. yeah no worries re.. see how you go.. more or less and that re.

He once said that the club communicates to its members and fans through the club website. I haven’t seen any special comms from him on this platform though, so if all they are doing is posting his pressers and pre and post game, then they must be his only efforts to communicate with fans.

I think you're right.

My memory of his online forum with fans might only relate to last season, when it might have been an engagement measure to compensate for the reality of hub-life and lockdown.

The mod. team would like to thank the posters that have gone the extra yard to ensure that we know exactly what their position is on the subject of the Collingwood Football Club coach.

This thread will remain open for posts that add something new. Repetitive statements and circular arguments will from now on be deleted.

will probably be savaged for this but it seems that this could stifle expression of opinion and diversity of opinion.

I know modding is a tough job and I appreciate what you guys do and others have done and I’m probably wrong but I didn’t see anything in this thread ie vulgar behaviour that would lead to a restriction on expressing an opinion.

I don’t understand why this topic is off topic simply because it’s repetitive for eg there have been so many repetitive comments about other matters that are not considered off topic. again I could be wrong and posts have been deleted which were unacceptable (I appreciate a line needs to be drawn somewhere)

This thread had evolved to an endless loop of the same arguments between the same posters.

At no point did we say people can't express their view or add something new to the discussion.

We must not stifle diversity! :)

Points to consider:

1. Camaraderie.. light hearted and serious conversation.
2. People with varying degrees of interest in the topic.
3. The club's current state. The coach's position included.
4. Impossible not to discuss Buckley in the now and the future without referencing the past.
5. The thread title is a joke. Where's the 'player name' on game day.. threads?
Serves only bias to those those who favour Buckley.

Sorry Jathanas, IMO that’s restricting expressing a view even if repetitive. Anyways, I don’t want to get into a debate about it but just wanted my opinion on it to be expressed as I don’t see how the restriction is fair or warranted. Again, I may have missed something. Peace.

Thanks for the well expressed thoughts.

We actually want to encourage quality discussion not stifle it.

EDIT: Your point regarding the thread title is accurate.

Could Buckley move down to assistant coach? Would still be good to keep his football brain.

Unlikely to take what would be a perceived step down. Could he take a step sideways? There is club history to suggest that's not a great way to go and we risk appearing insular.

If they part ways a fresh start would be best for both parties. I've little doubt that Buckley would have a number of exciting opportunities to pursue, and whoever replaces him doesn't want to live in his shadow like Buckley lived under MM's.
