Question about EPL; does it not disconcert you that 3 teams have dominated the competition for the past 20 years?

In 100%, total honesty, no.

If you aren't supporting Arsenal, Man U or Chelsea you're probably experiencing a lot of lows.

That's true, but I still think it's more fun following a small team.

Not really true, the objectives of each team are relative, so you are going to experience similar (though different natured) highs and lows regardless of which team you follow. Very different to following an AFL team where it is always a disappointment if you don't reach the eight (at least).

The other difference being that there are 4 different battles being fought:

-Top of the table (obvious)

-Battle for fourth (Champions League spot)

-Battle for seventh (Europa League Spot)

-Battle for seventeenth (Not going down)

In footy, there are only two important battles during the H&A season, for 4th place and for 8th place.

There's also the FA Cup, Carling Cup, Europa, and the Champions League.

How good would it have felt to be a Portsmouth fan last season when they played in the FA Cup. In the AFL, the only thing you can win is a spoon when your that far down.

I'll further answer this, now that I can be ****ed. I'd argue that this dominance breeds even greater success. With a 'draft' system, we would never see the brilliance of Barcelona, or Arsenal, etc. It's in the best interest of the advancement of the sport, imo. As well as this, clubs that generate the most for their respective football association are rewarded. Makes sense.

The main reason I do not like EPL is because of the causal link between how much money a team has and the ultimate success of finishing on top at the end of the season. I quite enjoy the sport of soccer (football), in fact I am a Victory member, but I have real problems with EPL and its Spanish, Italian, French and German equivalents.

This'll sound pretty obvious but yeah, it is during the season. After the season, I love Soccer and Cricket. But overall, AFL's the way to go.

AFL as the sport im right into. Have to watch every show incl. both footy shows and all fox shows. The only matches i dont see most of are the ones that clash with Freos. Right into stats etc.
Then NFL and College football. College Footy first, also right into Oregon ducks and watch every game. Still learing NFL but did watch the superbowl like any fan
In 2005 down Cricket would come next but nowadays it's a solid third. Used to be right into stats but couldnt keep up.
Association Football next mainly the EPL then
a bit of NBA :thumbsu:
Yup, same here.

I'd have AFL on par with Tennis and Cricket, with F1 just a touch behind, but I'm passionate about all four.

I don't really follow anything else.

As I explained to some other moron, it doesn't have to be your number one for you to post on here.

To be fair, judging by your posts in this thread, it doesn't seem like you even like the sport at all. You start laying into Australian football pretty quickly if someone criticises soccer.

I agree with Wahooti about the link between success and money in soccer. You simply can't have any major success (i.e. winning the EPL) if your club isn't rolling in cash. The sport is basically decided off the field by suits.

La Liga, for example, is one of the most ridiculous leagues in the world IMO. It's just two teams trouncing everyone except themselves all season because they have wallets that dwarf the rest of the competition. How is that entertaining?

As a result of this, both Barcelona and Real Madrid are able to provide some of the most exciting football there is. Perhaps, watching some of the play they produce, it's a worthy sacrifice. It seems unfair in the AFL that profitable clubs are forced to subsidise the existence of Norf etc.

Which is why I watch more A-League and Bundesliga than the other European leagues. German clubs are owned by members (except for Wolfsburg and Leverkusen) meaning there's only so much they can bankroll and makes the competition quite even. The A-League is managed by a salary cap. Creates some very interesting viewing.

AFL is my favourite sport in the world with cricket coming in second.

With footy I watch all shows and games (that don't clash with Geelong) but I don't watch VFL matches etc, I follow players and how they're going etc but with cricket I watch Australian matches, international matches, Australian domestic, Enligsh county, test, ODI, T20 and follow stats, players, countries, teams.

I also like playing cricket more. :)

The parity in the Bundesliga has more to do with the strict debt restrictions the league places on its clubs, rather than the system of ownership.
