Is Higgins the most over rated player to play for us

He should have to earn his spot in the team along with Ward. Those two just don't seem to work hard enough. Great talent and potential but they lack the blue collar attrivutes of people like Jones, Grant and Picken.

Yes, he is. No where near the level that the media and most Dogs fans have him at. People talk about him like he is an established, star component of the team - I think he has been the beneficiary of some very generous branding.

Slow, one way princess. Can't believe how many credits in the bank he has already.

Just some food for thought. The reality is you would get some pretty good picks for him. Would you consider trading him while his value is high and if so, what for?

No chance he will leave. His had a poor season due to carrying an injury. Come next yr with a pre-season under his belt he will be back to his best.

Come on now. HIs previous yrs have been good. We all saw him play injured at the start of the yr and his fitness has been effected by it. Get a proper pre-season into him and he will do well.

Good, not great which is where most fans have him at. He is not a great player, not a star player and not this match winning gun he is made out to be. Almost as frustrating as Josh Hill.

A long way to go.

Pull your head in mate!!! :(
Higgins has been disappointing this year and I can understand that you maybe can call him not blue-collar, but to suggest Callan Ward is not blue collar then that is purely idiotic. You might not like him, that is fine and is your opinion but don't write stupid posts and not expect to get picked up on it.
Obviously you are a fool.

Didnt get out of first gear tonight. Was constantly beaten for the ball when he had a gap on his opponent. Higgins doesnt really want to be at the club. He's a Geelong boy, wishes he was at Geelong, hangs out with Geelong players whenever he can. I say we try and trade him to the cats, get a pick and a player, and all move on.

Why am I the fool? Tonight Ward didn't work hard enough. If you think his running was good enough tonight then we may as well give up because he was always ten metres behind his opponent. He has great talent, and he puts his head overt the ball, but he isn't a complete player yet because he doesn't run hard enough, and chase enough. Wathc the game again and take note of how Liam Jones chases and works non stop. Then see if Ward did the same tonight? and that kick he turned over across the half back line that resulted in a goal was unforgivable. That was just woeful. He didn't earn his spot in the team and it showed because he didn't deserve to be out there.

Some funny "answers" here...

...esp. that last one! (ah, quick edit...now not the last one!!)

...Either way, the answer is no.

I raise you one Lindsay Gilbee. Has been awful for weeks.

Soft, and has now been (consistantly for a few weeks) poor enough in disposal for it to matter.

Really hurting us I would have thought.

Seriously, how are you going when Eagleton is making you look soft...

Ward has had a very interrupted season with injury. You classified him as not "blue-collar" which suggests to me he is weak and does not put his head over the ball. I am calling you on that because Callan Ward is a beast when he tries to get the ball.
His skills let him down tonight, particularly as you suggest the kick across the ground. He also missed a shot in the 3rd quarter he should have nailed and he kicked a ball out of bounds. He needs games under his belt and quickly. We are a much better team with him in because of the hardness, particularly with Picken likely to be suspended.
Higgins on the other hand is playing nowhere near up to the ability he has got. He has had a disrupted season also but has been poor even before his injuries. He just seems to cruise along hoping to get kicks rather than working his butt off to earn the kicks.
He is very frustrating because we all know the player he could be. I am thinking Travis Johnstone at the moment for Higgo. He just teases you with a smidge of his talent.

Higgins WILL get better.
Sheesh. So quick to judge.
I thought only 1 of Higgins or Ward should have come in. Shit happens and they both play.
At leat they get match fitness (I hope Ward is ok) leading into the finals.
Glass half full :)
Edit.
Bugger Higgins injured :(

So pleased to hear Higgins played injured tonight because his efforts were half hearted, a huge contrast to Ward who whilst making a number of errors, never gave up and committed himself to the contest time and time again. They need to perserverere with him especially with Picken likely to miss a couple.

Gilbee shoud be dropped hes been a passenger to much this year he looks slow and he disposal is crap should have been dropped earl;ier in the year.

Wow, how quick are we to jump on players? Higgins will be great and has been great in the past. Ok he hasn't really fired this season due to injuries, but in all honesty who has???? Don't even start on Ward. He was fantastic for us last year and he is so young and gutsy, but yes, coming back from (and probably still suffering) injury. Give them a go! We all know that half the team are still struggling with illness and if you were at the game you could see that they were not themselves. Gilbee looked very slow and he was one of the sickest last week...he is not going to be 100% within a week. There was nothing they could do to stop the cats last night. Just don't start blaming individuals, it was embarassing and looking for a scapegoat is not going to help anyone.

Won't and shouldn't happen. After a team effort like last nights, there are going to be some strange calls for blokes to be dropped. This close to the finals you need to persist with your best players on the park. Gilbee is one of those.....and we need him for the kick-outs.

Kinda glad he is out of the side now for a few weeks to get right. He is in our long term plans but been very disappointing this year, cant believe someone of his talent consistantly playing from behind and going to ground so much

Sorry BWFC, but you are simply not correct.

Ward and Higgins were brought in because of the large number of players struggling.

Higgins has certainly struggled this year and was found wanting as he was easily out run. I am confident it is a fitness issue and will be resolved for future years.

Ward has had OP and since returning to the side he has shanked EVERY long kick. He is obviously restricted, but he too will come right.
