Is Higgins the most over rated player to play for us

Sorry BWFC, but you are simply not correct.

Ward and Higgins were brought in because of the large number of players struggling.

Higgins has certainly struggled this year and was found wanting as he was easily out run. I am confident it is a fitness issue and will be resolved for future years.

Ward has had OP and since returning to the side he has shanked EVERY long kick. He is obviously restricted, but he too will come right.

This. I get the impression some of his defenders are insinuating that he'll improve this year.

He will not get better this year and is a borderline liability in the side, but he should be right next year.

Higgins was disgraceful. Absolutely no excuses. If he was injured, he shouldn't have played but he opted to do so and exposed himself as the downhill skiier he is.

People seem to forget that he is a kid.

He has played 1 full season of footy where he was excellent and the remaining seasons he has had injuries.

So effectively he is a kid with one and a half seasons behind him. Give him a break.

Ward and Higgins should not be in the team right now. That is all. Yes they have talent and may have injuries holding them back. But that is why they shouldnt be playing. We can't have ward shanking every long kick. Get the body right then play them next year.

My wife is a Dogs fanatic so i watch every game, somewhat objectively.
For whats its worth, clearly HIggins is a very skilled player.
He is also very slow, and not a particularly strong clearance player.
When a side is travelling poorly, these sorts of players look bad..
No way in the world however would you ever trade him, you need youngish players on the park .
If Callum Ward is your major worry then your in great shape

Why am I the fool? Tonight Ward didn't work hard enough. If you think his running was good enough tonight then we may as well give up because he was always ten metres behind his opponent. He has great talent, and he puts his head overt the ball, but he isn't a complete player yet because he doesn't run hard enough, and chase enough. Wathc the game again and take note of how Liam Jones chases and works non stop. Then see if Ward did the same tonight? and that kick he turned over across the half back line that resulted in a goal was unforgivable. That was just woeful. He didn't earn his spot in the team and it showed because he didn't deserve to be out there.

I was a bit disappointd with him last night but that was because of his disposal.

As for his work ethic, check out his attempted spoil of Milburn on the city side half forward where he went to ground but was also the person throwing himself across Chapmans boot as he kicked that banana goal from 30 out.

Would have him ahead of Higgins.

Shaun is either injured and should not be playing or out of all form and confidence and should be playing a williamstown. Unfortunately, we don't know because after each injury break he is back straight into the team.

If Johnno, Eagle, Minson, Wood, Everitt, Roughead, etc can play at Willi so can Shaun. It does him no favours whatsoever. He has lost his body awareness and is getting beaten regularly in one on one contests when in past years this was a real asset.

A game at Willi is honest and allows him to find his touch.

This is my only criticism of Eade and the football department. It sends a really shitty message to guys at willi who are working hard

Didnt get out of first gear tonight. Was constantly beaten for the ball when he had a gap on his opponent. Higgins doesnt really want to be at the club. He's a Geelong boy, wishes he was at Geelong, hangs out with Geelong players whenever he can. I say we try and trade him to the cats, get a pick and a player, and all move on.

Higgins is class and just looks injured at the moment. Your disappointment is probably magnified by the margin of the loss but if you're really serious about trading him, what do you think would be a fair trade? I for one would be happy to see him at Skilled Stadium.

I was going to start a "Higgins and Ward" thread until I saw this one ...

Cast your mind back to the heady days of March and the NAB Cup win. In fact go a bit further back to about January. As in every pre-season, we were full of hope and confidence. Some of it came from the recuitment of Hall but a lot of it was from how good Ward and Higgins were going to be this year. Also we could see great things for Reid in 2010 (one game, season over) and maybe for Wood, and of course young Harbrow.

Yes, some of you may be embarrassed to be reminded (though you shouldn't be) that you declared you were plonking your hard-earned on Higgins for the Brownlow. And let's be fair. It was a reasonable outside bet if his improvement continued at the rate it had in 2009.

I think it's fair to say now that Higgins' and Ward's seasons have been thoroughly ruined by groin injury/OP, etc. And with that, I think the WB chances have also gone south. Without questioning their desire or natural ability, I can't recall one really good game that either has played this year.

I think for us to be a serious threat we need all these up and comers to be hitting their straps. It certainly won't happen for them this year.

Although it's been a commendable team effort to win a NAB Cup and (probably) make top 4, it probably won't happen for the WB this year either. We just can't put enough class players on the park.

The upside however is really good for 2011 if these two and Sam Reid all come good. Certainly this is no time to be talking of Higgins as a trade or a discard.

I was waiting for this thread to come along.
Higgins shouldnt be traded, but he has been over rated this year. He was in our potential top 5 at the start of year. He needs to get his body right and toughen up. Both can be fixed.

When I first saw Higgins play I thought he was going to turn out to be an absolute gun. He is a natural footballer who can find the ball and knows what to do with it when he gets it.

But this year he has been very disappointing and I have no idea why. He looks to be playing injured and is a touch slow, so he probably wont get a run in the midfield too often so he needs to contribute up forward.

I don't think we should trade him though, that would be a bit dramatic IMO.

Unfortunately for Higgins, whether injuries are the cause or not....his games have been littered with timid half-hearted efforts. There are no excuses for that. If you are not capable of making a committed attack on the ball you shouldn't be playing.

FWIW we should keep him.

Just shows the dangers of making assumptions about players based on very limited knowledge of what is actually happening. Ironically, the Doc said the club kept it quiet to avoid uninformed media speculation - but this led to ill informed supporter speculation instead. I guess the club could have released info. earlier - however I know that I wouldn't necessarily want my confidential medical information splashed about in the press for all to see. Perhaps there is a lesson to be learnt from all this... ummm - nah - it is Big Footy after all - ignorance and knee-jerk reactions rule!
