Is Lobbe our most important player for next Year

At the end of 2011, he was considered one of the bright sparks for our future, he impressed in his first games as first ruck and his potential was sky high.

Gets injured in the off season, has no real pre-season, and suddenly after a 2012 which wasn't terrible but wasn't great, some posters are willing to write him off (of course, with the disclaimer that they "hope he proves them wrong" - a get out of jail free card for negative opinions).

I still believe.

Would like to see him get a full preseason under him. Remembered watching his highlights reel as a junior and his contested marking and leading as a forward were what stood out for me.

Liked his game at AO at the end of 2011.

More likely to turn into a third forward/second ruck than a No. 1 ruck IMO. Redden will be our No. 1 ruck in the future.

To answer the OP's question, Jay Schulz is our most important player by so much it isn't funny.

Our most important players are Schulz, and Boak IMO. They need to play nearly all games at near full capacity for our team to reach an A-grade level ever.

The guy has shown zero ability in the actual art of rucking. If that makes me negative then so be it.

Yeah, I guess breaking even in the ruck with Ivan Maric, who was in All Australian contention for most of the year, shows nothing. I really think people focus on the negatives with Lobbe, rather than the positives. Yeah, that game was an exception so far in his career, but I have hope it can be a regular thing.

Maric is also a great example to show that you can't write a ruck off early.

Well it does show nothing because Lobbe didnt play against Maric at all this year o_O

Redden did and I rate Reddens actual ruckwork incredibly highly. If he can get fit he will be a star.

I agree with Macca.

So it is written.

lobbe's future is real hazy at this point in time.

the next 12 months could mean the beginning of something good or the end of his career ( or at least we shunt him elsewhere and move on). could go either way really. he really needs to establish himself this year.

We've got to sit back and think who in our team has really reached their potential. Nobody has become elite, nobody leads the league in any statistics but a lot of the players in this team were highly rated juniors. On paper this list isn't bad, it just hasn't developed.

We are beginning to see the reasons why as far as coaching and training so what do we look forward to. I say Lobbe is key next year. Redden isn't ready, Renouf won't go the distance and there are no other backups.

In games when teams need a lift they often look to their big men to curb the influence of the other teams big men. When was the last time we thought, "gee, our Ruckmen stepped up a notch and got our mids back in the game". We used to rely on Brogan, Primus, and Lade. I think big red is the type that chases his own taps and blocks and shepherds. He isn't just a running player but gets on his knees and helps win possession. Imagine if he gets stronger and more agile. I am not judging any player by their past but what I think they could do when they flourish in a good environment.

I agree with people saying that Lobbe hasn't shown much, but I also agree with people saying that he needs more of a go. He's having a good pre season, so next year he will be one to watch

He is not our most important player though

I reckon we give him a real crack at trying to cement a place at CHF.

He's shown less then nothing playing up forward. Why should Butcher, Westhoff or Shaw be pushed down the pecking order to try and accommodate Lobbe?

If he's going to make it anywhere it'll be in the ruck.

Lobbe had a great preseason last year, right up until around march. Then he was buggered. Lets hope its not same again.
If you consider lifting weights like you'd do in a shed with your mates followed by a running program barely better than SANFL level, I guess you'd say he had a good preseason last year.
