You've been tricked by Ricky's exceptional form of late. Cast that aside and look at the last 10 years - Lara and Tendulker have clearly been in a class above.

From 1999 onwards - 7 years now Ponting has been every bit the player of Lara & Tendulker.

the way he's going he will be a better player than both at the end of his career. he is currently the best batsman in the world. so good to watch, so confident he will get the job done.

And Ponting leads from the front and doesn't play Zimbabwe and Bangladesh like the others do. He consistently faces better bowlers.

Try this on for size:

Since becoming Australia's permanent #3 in the batting order (clearly the most difficult position to bat) in the 2001 Ashes Series, Ponting has averaged a lazy 67.77.

The guy is a freak, and definitely Australia's best batsman since DB.

Everyone keeps complaining that the Aussies dont play Zimbo and others do, thats only because Australia wont tour there and the other countries will

Every other county puts politics aside to play cricket, why should the cricketers suffer by not playing the best team in the world?

The rest of the world is happy to play there, so dont go using the excuse that Australia dont get to play Zimbo, they choose not to play them

Sometimes your moronic statements are funny ..but now you are crossing a line where your ignorance is no excuse...the mods should ban you from any further posting on this thread

tendulkar has mental toughness, he pulls some good innings out when the pressure is on.
or at least he seems to be the type of player to whom pressure doesn't seem to matter.

Weren't Michael Vaughan and his English team the only ones to boycott games in Zimbabwe at the 2003 World Cup? I think the answer's yes.

We aint complaining about other players averages being boosted by playing Zimbabwe

Simple, if you are happy for the players to boycott then dont complain they dont play the easy beats as often as those who are happy to tour

Hahaha silly thread.

Ponting has faced rubbish bowlers and when faced agaisnt a qulaity attack ie: England and India in India, he seems to fail.

Lara has carted the australian attack everytime basically, Tendulkar has done the same. Both out of form even hit double tons agaisnt the best bowling line up in some time. They have sustained their performances for a much longer peruod of time and have won important games off their own bats.

Right now Ponting has the upper hand, but who wouldnt? Lara is 36 and Tendulkar has been out for cricket for a pretty long while, only just got back and broke the most 100's record.

Ponting will robably go down and brake their record, but if the opportunity came for me to choose one batsman for South Africa I'd choose Lara every single time without a doubt.

By the end of his career i can see him rated above these two at worst equal , as he is well on track for 40+ test hundreds .

His record at number 3 is nothing short of sensational , definately number 2 to the Don.

I suspect that most of Tendulkar's boundries came stragiht down the ground and off his pads. I would also suspect that Tendulkar socres more twos from nudging it around than either Lara or Ponting. I think that Lara has the greatest ability of the three to score anywhere followed by Ponting with Tendulkar a long way behind. Lara > Ponting >>> Tendulkar

In terms of consistency the order would be Tendulkar > Ponting >>> Lara.

In terms of ability to score big hundreds Lara >> Ponting >>>> Tendulkar

Ponting is clearly the best fieldsman of the three and the most succesful leader/captian.

I would say that Ponting is better than Tendulkar as a bastman and better than either Lara or Tendulkar as a cricketer

Overall carrear: Tendulkar>Lara>Ponting.

Right now: Ponting>Lara>Tendulkar.

At the end of their carrears it could very well look like this: Ponting>Tendulkar>Lara.

Ponting's career has taken off since taking the number 3 posistion. He is up there with the Tendulkars the Laras for form, ability to win test matches and just pure skill. With easily 4-5 years left in him he has every record in site for him to break.

He is australias best batsman for the past decade and he will be remembered for things done on the field and off teh field. Great australian player! :thumbsu:
