Or a convenient excuse.

Or maybe the truth or based on the truth. Particularly about not being ready - that is a big omission to make if your ego is out of control. I take that to mean he is aware of his short comings (and he straight out said that last year when he went looking to learn) and owing your deficiencies is always the first critical step for self improvement.

I'm happy for him to stay under the new regime, and have faith that the captaincy will be reviewed and appointments as appropriate. Noble/Fagan seem well up to the challenge of developing players of all types, including under qualified captains.

He's made similar admissions repeatedly and even went as far as last year seeking out advice from Mark Bouris.

There's little point in (yet more) second chances if you learn nothing, change nothing and repeat the same behaviors over and over. Empty rhetoric might appease some but sooner or later it shouldn't and won't wash.

Rockys manager on trade radio-

Rocky did assess his options in the past but the new Fagan, Noble team is great.

Rocky has lions blood in his veins, loves the club.

will almost certainly be at the lions unless the new coaching team have other ideas.

he probably wasn't ready for the leadership.

he will improve with a better coaching group in place.

Rocky hedging his bets to not get on the wrong side of the new coaching dept and leave a window open to stay as he's starting to realise perhaps those offers aren't going to come pouring in. Mentioning his captaincy the way he has is MASSIVE and a very telling statement IMO.

You can control what you do but in a leadership role where there are a collection of problems and dissatisfied team members it is difficult for a low level manager (which is the captain) to impact on overall culture.

Maybe a strong element of truth to that? Voss and Leppa never proved they could coach.

Which totally gives a leader the right to be an off-field and locker room shambles yeah?

Petroro has been shopping him all over the joint (same thing he was doing in 2013) and no one is biting because his value assessment isn't exactly sensible. Now he's suddenly got "Lions blood coursing through his veins" and implicitly dumping all the negativity surrounding him right on Leppa's front porch. He's pathologically unable to take stock of his own behaviour. The cultivation of the image of a loyal, passionate clubman and leader that would die for the jumper is mighty impressive for a guy who is very much all about himself. 800k a year... **** off.

I've had enough of this rubbish. Disinfect the joint NobFag.

agree 100%, i was in the past for the trade Rocky scenario, Noble, Fagan, Schwab and Conole will make the right decision re Rockliff, Hanley, Green and Gardner.

How long has it been since we can confidently say the admin of the club will make the right call and we trust them on it. Sad, really!

We'll see I guess

That we will. For mine there is just too much smoke around Rockliff for him to remain as skipper. Whether it be his off field stuff or that he seems to have played a role in the removal of 2 coaches.

Voss ? Did they take Tom's word in to sack him, why the demand for it ?
Leppitsch ? Didn't know Rocky organised the team set up and game plan. Did he disagree with it ?... I hope so we were pathetic.

lot of words in this thread from posters I respect.

But I've never seen an actual post saying anything 'real' other than just 'sets standards that he isn't prepared to keep himself' 'if you've heard what I've heard' and 'my sources are very close to the club' etc.

Can anyone point to a specific post in this 72 page thread that actually says something other than Rockliff is a selfish FIGJAM?

We can all read between the lines and trust in the multiple sources on here saying he is a negative influence etc, but genuinely in all the threads on this board haven't seen one specific story of what he has done that is out of line beyond the coach killer stuff (and how many players over 120 years of AFL have killed the coach?).

If you want to put your hat in the Tom Rockliff corner then good luck to you.

THIS!... I wish someone would just explain what the hell he has done.

I listened to the interview and I think that reaction is a bit OTT. I think it's unfair to dump all of our problems on one player just as it is unfair to dump them all onto the coaches, the board etc. Its been an accumulation of everything and you probably can't deny that coaching has had some impact. I understand you hold great disdain for Rocky but I really believe that with the right coach in charge a lot can change.

This is the first time in a long time our football department actually could be the envy of other clubs, i think a few big name assistants will be hired soon too. Things can turn around pretty quickly.
