You reckon?
Hanley has been in the Brisbane Lions system for eight years. In that time he has never played in a team that won more than 10 matches. He has done that for the majority with no family here he can fall back on.

Leaving aside this year (which was a default placing), he has been top five in our b and F three of the last four years. So he has been one of our best and one of our hardest working at a time when we have been poor.

That fact that he may have now decided that he wants to get some wins in his career and is disillusioned with whether that will happen in Brisbane within his timescale, is demonstrably and qualitatively different to a player leaving after 2 years, because they miss home.
Doesn't excuse or make him exempt from toxic behaviour. Don't know what Pearce is paid (although I am sure it's good $) but in any job you have an obligation to that employer to behave in an acceptable manner and perform at your best to receive your pay regardless of the end result. Pearce probably is sick of losing (who likes losing?) but there is a way to manage that and he hasn't done it the right way for the club or himself.
As for him being in the Lions system for 8 years now, I kinda think he's a lucky bugger to play AFL at the highest level for that long regardless of which club it is. There would be a que a mile long to trade places with him.

I don't think people should be surprised that that club wears people down.

That queue doesn't include afl players capable of AA standard on-field form. Like it or not, players who are happy to keep playing for a club that goes backward every year also aren't the ones that are going to get you back to the top. Pearce may well be an intolerable dickhead, but you just can't succeed in this game if you can't manage these people.

So just to be clear, I have asked this previously and not got an answer from those in the know.

Without in any way revealing what the behaviour is and I fully appreciate that that can't be disclosed.

Is Pearce's off field behaviour, of the same nature as Rockliffs. Or is it merely that he and Rockliff are mates?

NB-
I'm not saying keep him either way. His performance, disiilusionment and poor buy in suggest that he may need to be moved on. Even if we give him the benefit of the doubt and say he was injured, his mental response to that injury was poor, as opposed to a player like Staker who while injured appeared to be a great clubman and a great leader of the younger kids.

Schwab said Hanley was suffering from 'loser's fatigue'.

I think it's genius and it further illustrates the pain I feel every day for not being able to follow Schwab.

Steele, if you're reading this - get him sorted.

Not what I am saying.... There are plenty of AA standard people in many companies & organisations that don't get to work/play footy at the highest level yet alone win a dream deal/flag. Personal credibility is something you should never want to be tarnished and there are plenty of great AFL players over the years that never tasted success or even played finals footy that still behaved properly in the AFL system. Don't think him being sick of losing is wrong, however him behaving badly while being successful in his trade is something he should improve on. If he wants a new club, go for it but keep your credibility in check while doing it.

Loser's fatigue is an interesting way to spin it, but it also makes no sense that he's potentially looking to go to Gold Coast - a team that only won 6 games in this past season, and finished only two rungs above us on the ladder. Considering how they free-fall down the ladder the second Ablett has the sniffles I don't see how leaving us for them is going to improve his 'losers fatigue' any.

If any other club had their list manager suggesting they could decide to part ways with their captain I feel that there would be a lot more attention. That and the quote from Swann about whether Rocky would be captain indicates the off field staff would love him to leave.

 what's going on that it's not really getting that much attention?

Their list moving forward is full of talent - I think Pearce can see that clearly. They should be in the 8 next year.

I am heartily sick of this thread and similar threads. It is emblematic of where the Club has sunk to.It appears that over 60 % of the responders want Rocky removed as captain largely on the basis of rumour and innuendo.Similarly it appears that a majority of supporters are quite happy for our two best players over the last few years to be traded away.
My question is what have they done that is so deplorable? All I can ascertain is that Pearce is a "knob" and Rocky mistreats younger players. It makes the Club sound like Mean Girls 2.Brisbane is a football club not a popularity contest.Swap the names Rockliff and Hanley for Carey and Matthews of similar ages.Would we be so fired up to get rid of them?
As someone who has no inside knowledge of the Club and its personnel, all I want is for someone, anyone , to explain in simple terms what these two guys have done which justifies their removal from the Club and reference to "toxic " behaviour doesn't cut it.
Otherwise its seems to me we are getting rid of two fine footballers ( subject to Hanley's hips being ok ) because they have annoyed a few people.I am happy to be convinced otherwise but it has not happened yet.All I see is people posting that all the rumours must be true etc etc. What are the flaming rumours? It may be in this thread , if so point me to it.

You do realise it's the 21st century, right?

Society has changed quite a bit from Leigh Matthews time. You can't condone Hanley assaulting someone behind the play like Matthews did or Rocky doing the amount of drugs Carey used to.

I can understand it's frustrating to not know the full story, but do you really think an AFL club would acquiesce to trading out two of its best players if it was nothing?

Did I miss something or was this just a general statement that behaviour which might have previously been acceptable is not any longer? (a point with which I agree)

I would have him removed as captain purely for the Tweets he sent, it's not rumour anymore. He is/was Captain of the club with a new women's AFL franchise as well as a staff more than 50 % women by reports. This is untenable to have the Captain be so degrading of a women and I'm an old fart that comes from the era that this was widely accepted.

I can't understand the defence do rockliff after this has come out. People have been craving to know what he has done. He is a great footballer yes but I want the Lions to be a great club. There are plenty of good footballers that also are respectful to their supports and staff that they work with.

It's been outlined in this thread by 2-3 posters a number of times. Read the last few pages, I know at least one summary of the situation without getting too detailed is there.

I am heartily sick of this thread and similar threads.

Then don't read it. Pretty simple.

How exactly? On the basis of rumour and innuendo? The same which have been denied by the club or by fellow teammates? Any surprise as to why most of the playing group went on a end of season trip, and Rocky & Hanley went on their own? They're clearly in a league of their own and most of the younger players dislike them. Not uncommon knowledge.

Don't know man, wouldn't you just dismiss it because it's rumour and innuendo? They're both toxic characters, as evidenced by a chain of events extending to before the GH5, and continuing over the weekend as evidenced by Rocky's insensitive tweets.

As someone who has no inside knowledge of the Club and its personnel, all I want is for someone, anyone , to explain in simple terms what these two guys have done which justifies their removal from the Club and reference to "toxic " behaviour doesn't cut it.

Toxic behaviour.

Point you to it? You can go look for it yourself. The club will be a much better place when these two douchebags leave.

Pearce wants to leave- it has been widely reported that he has met with the gold coast.

Rocky is open to leave- his manager confirmed that he has looked around in the past for other opportunities.

statements by Greg Swan and Peter Schwab in the last few days have made it abundantly clear that the trading out of both players is a possibility. do you really think there is no problem if the club is openly up for a trade for one or both of them?

what we speculate here on BF would have zero influence on the final outcome particularly with great people like Fagan, Noble, Schwab and Lambert on board, if we decide to keep them i will back our new team to turn them around.

Fagan said yesterday- if you are not 100% on the bus get off. (not verbatim). i couldn't agree more with Chris.
