Is Sandilands done?

And what about his liability everywhere else on the ground?

If Fremantle translated hitouts and clearances into goals his hitouts would be relevant. They’ve got good clearance midfielders with or without Sandilands.

For the last 5 years at least I've noticed Sandilands after a ruck tap essentially stay idle even when his opponent runs off because his team has the ball.

He seems nervous with ball in hand and always looks to pass it off, which every player knows. Surely he must retire in a couple of weeks as he has got even worse this year and his team needs to sort that ruck problem out.

Disagree.

Good player and should play in 2019.

Talk about Tall Poppy Syndrome.
If Sandilands was 10cm shorter and producing the numbers he does, he would be talked about as an absolute champion of the game.

Tonight, prompted by a typical Paul Roos criticism about Sandilands marking capabilities, I went and got the stats for all 2018 players 200cm or taller.

Using stats current up to the end of Round 8 2018;
41 AFL Players 200cm or higher have played in 2018.
Just 7 of them have a better than Sandilands Contested Mark average in 2018. They are Mason Cox, Daniher, Rory Lobb, Gawn, Ben Brown, Charlie Dixon & Carlisle. (NB: Max Gawn would be the only recognised quality ruckman who is taking more contested marks than Sandilands).
And just 6 have a better average 2014 to current, ie. 5 seasons (Casboult, Daniher, Lobb, Gawn, Brown & Dixon).

I have also previously looked at that stats relating to Freo's win/loss ratio when Sandilands plays. It is ridiculous and I challenge anybody to find another player in the league who is more important to a teams win/loss success in the last 5 years.

Tonight before the start of the Sydney vs Freo game, they showed how in 2018 Sandilands and Fyfe had something like 48 combos. The next best in the league was in the 20s (sorry I can't remember the exact stats or who was next best).

As my opening comment suggests, people who criticise Sandilands do so simply because of his height and not because of any educated understanding of his football.

Scoreboard though (in this game and against Richmond).
I become more convinced everytime I read one of your posts that you know **** all about football.

As a tap ruckman he clearly wins his position and gives our midfield first use. How they butcher it from there going inside 50 is somehow Sandi's fault.

Geez you are special. Should we blame our backline for McCarthy missing from 20m in front?

He plays his part admirably when others are lacking. Sandi hauls that gigantic body up and down the ground week in week out. Arms chopped, hung on to at every bounce, throw-in and marking contest. Manages to kick a goal fairly regularly and of course dominates hit outs. He makes Fyfe, Neale and Mundy look good around stoppages. Not done for this season anyway.

He's not the one mindlessly bombing it into our forward 50, or even remotely responsible for that.

You're effectively saying clearances are useless.

Sandilands doesn't personally produce the clearances, just the taps that lead to them.

When you use clearances as poorly as the Dockers apparently do, you start to question the value of the numbers on the page.

Here is a stat that doesnt bode well for us!

Richmond are last for hitouts, 17th for clearances, 1st for frees against, 1st for goals kicked and 1st on the ladder.

The implication of your post is that those midfielders would perform better in stoppages with a less dominant tap ruckman?

Let's also not discount that even clearances/taps that don't lead to a score, may still lead to territory, or prevent the opposition possesion or territory.
