Opinion Is this rock bottom?

It's going to be so great when things do start to improve. I'll never be complacent again about being a feared and dreaded side. We used to be that; hard to believe it now. There was a game at the WACA in early '93 when we beat reigning premiers West Coast at home against the odds, probably the toughest North team I'd seen and that's when the tide had definitely turned. It will happen again.
Remember it well.

I suspect rock bottom will be 2027 when Harley Reid wins the Brownlow, JHF wins the Norm Smith for PA, Zurhaar kicks goal of the year for Stk and LDU wins the B&F for Ess, while NM finishes bottom 2 for the 10th consecutive year with Tazzie circling McKercher.

But I’m not worried, Rawlings will identify a stack of 6ft average paced average skilled mids and a few handy half forwards. Not including the immensely talented guys from other clubs he can entice to Arden St. 👊
Could be worse......TT could win the Brownlow for Ess.

When the team averages around 60 games. When we get into 80 games, we are well into the finals. When around 100 games, we start to contend. Then we do free agencies to maintain that window for as long as possible. As long as larkey, sheezal, comben, xerri in the team, that window can open for quite a while.

FWIW I genuinely believe we have become a parody. Not to be taken seriously.
Whether its laughing at our supporters or taking the piss out of our history - for so long we were mid-table competitive and then 2020 hit and we've finally become mediocre. Down the bottom where our ********ing rivals want us to be. Where they can pity us. Where for so many years we bucked the trend and were a proud footy club. And now we've sunk to the bottom and we've stayed there.

I'm convinced Collingwood and Geelong and the well run clubs look at us and laugh at the thought that North will ever become contenders again.

Even AFL House.
Never forget when we were the butt of all jokes when Demetriou suggested that Brian Cook leave Geelong after 3 flags in 5 years and come join North. This was right after Euge had left. It shows how we are perceived internally.
Well we tried to land Brian Cook and we got rejected. The man would have forensically examined what taking the job on North would mean for his future career prospects. He would have studied the balance sheet, would have spoken to his peers and confidantes in the industry, and ultimately he said no.

So where did Cook land? At Carlton and look how they have turned around.

North's status in this competition matters. And right now we are so far away from from where we want to be, its a crying shame the levels we've fallen to. Also the Gen Z footballers coming through, they didnt witness the 90s. They dont associate success with North or playing and winning finals at the MCG. And believe it or not this attitude does stem through when it comes to trades and free agents.
Since 2017 players will only come here to get paid. That's it. I find it quite embarrassing if Brady was tasked with being the charismatic and influential representative who is tasked with trying to swoon and win over prospective targets.

Clarko really is the only hope. If the most successful coach in the past 15 years can't turn this around for us then I genuinely feel like there is no helping us.

You forgot Majak Daw coming out of retirement and winning mark of the year for Freo

The rot started in 2007 at a board level when that boards choice of coach personified the mindset and culture of the board, good old boys chuffed at running an AFL club, playing golf, long lunches, real estate investment etc. they took their eyes off the prize once they kept north south thinking that was enough to do the job without committing to the next step. Put BS in charge and expected him to deliver the goods via sports science rather than oh that guy is a really good footballer in this position so I’ll play him there. AFL hates us, successive boards were dummies, BS sacked boomer and blew up the place leaving multiple hand grenades lying around (then works for the afl in a position where he ducks us even more) shizen coaches, covid years, lack of taking strategic advantage of the draft system for two decades, putrid recruitment and player development etc etc duck me sideways I’m simply glad that all that crap is behind us, we’ve got a good board who are focused on the prize, likewise a coach who can achieve that prize, the biggest challenge now is our playing group and their culture. This will take another 2-3 seasons to shape into what we expect but it will happen. It simply can’t happen soon enough for most of you campaigners 😉

To add to this, most of those crying foul on this site were those who called for a massive purge. We did exactly that so the club knows what is in store. We all wanted this because the 20 years before the purge were wasted season, something far worse than bottoming out. We are finally on the right path.

As God Emperor Leto says, the golden path to the ultimate salvation is often littered with destruction, despair and desolation.

I'm at the stage I'm not looking forward to watching my team. I approach every game with a degree of hope. I'm just about out of hope. It is getting harder and harder to watch.
C'mon gokangas, you can do this, we need you and others that are feeling like this to do a rocky and go the distance because I feel it in my heart that we are on the right path though at times we do question ourselves and our club, but I'm 100% confident, with the new coaches our cleanout of players for four years, very good young talent brought into the club and players getting to know our game plan and so on its all going to come to fruition!

If you need to, watch a funny movie to lighten the mood or something in that regard, we all feel like this at different times but we are Shinboners and we don't take the easy path of quitting or even not watching our team, whether at the ground or on tv, because like it or hate it real supporters no matter how angry whether its at the club , players or just yourself for supporting them, go all the way.

We are doing this rebuild the right way don't listen to outside noise and nonsense just because in a few games some people "just can't see it" there will come a time not to far away when they bloody well will see it but nothing will be said because everyone will be overjoyed. Get this into your thinking, we are going to cop some pain and punches but we are building something special now, there is no quick fix, and its happening as we speak.

We all have to be on the bus now, there is no stopping because some people don't believe or can't take the pain and punches, we will take the hits, the pain and supporters laughing and feeling sorry for us but when it changes and it will, the laughing and feeling sorry will disappear so quickly it wont be funny. So I know your staying on the bus gokangas because as a certain person in a boxing movie once said, "there is no tomorrow"! I know we're getting hammered in games, but like the Fremantle game when it clicks we will be doing the hammering! We are in this together, till the end.

And JHF (Judas) wins a flag with Port the same year he wins a Brownlow

Yet for all the talk of awful culture, simultaneously we have had the sheer joy of watching our AFLW team develop into genuine contenders.

Find it hard to believe that their determination to succeed has not had a positive impact on the club. Unfathomable to me that Emma K. is accepting or contributing to a “loser mentality”.

As Emma said they put “smiles on faces & bums on seats”.

Yeah, like when Azza kicked 100 goals for WC.

Can we reopen that gc thread and talk about how much that win was going to catapult us in a new direction? 😂

I just hope that Clarkson talk about finding players who were going to buy into gf footy wasn’t bullshit
1000000% winning that last game was the final kick in the guts 😂
Even if we didn’t take Reid we could of taken Melbournes offer and cleaned up.

We are completely irrelevant, no mention of us on any of the football shows, I hear how wet toast have had a hard draw no mention of north’s super hard draw thus far…. 1/11 beckons what an effing joke even with Clarkson….

Another year of this, and Clarko will be heading down a “noble path”.
And not of the Buddhist variety, unfortunately.

So what sack him now? At least give the coach until the end of the year to see across a whole season if there is some tangible improvement FFS. You cannot possibly think he's got a great list to work with, surely?
