Nothing will be lower than the adject despair of 2022 (surely).
But certainly agree a fair portion of our predicament is down to club culture and the mental state of players bruised by years of losing.
You could put a strong country side like Yarrawonga out there, and they wouldn't make the extremely basic skill errors we do.
There's such a lack of belief in themselves and each other, every game becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. The boys don't believe they're good enough and are beaten very quickly as soon as another side gets on top.

The Freo game is a good example of our mental fragility. Half way through the 2nd quarter, we're all over them. We then have multiple shots at goal to kick away, which we miss. Freo are then able to stabilise and get on top, we then proceed to fold like a house of cards.
Sides with belief can concede momentum and runs of goals, but are able to stem the bleeding and stay in the game. We offered zero resistance until it was too late.

A good sports psych to help Clarko, Viney and the assistant coaches rebuild the playing groups confidence and self esteem, is a must.
The performance of the VFL side shows this. In the last game Carlton threatened to overrun us, but we got back on top and won.
The AFL side are unable to do that, and a lot of the problem is above the shoulders.
We're still a while off being a good side, but we really shouldn't be this bad and this disjointed.

I suspect rock bottom will be 2027 when Harley Reid wins the Brownlow, JHF wins the Norm Smith for PA, Zurhaar kicks goal of the year for Stk and LDU wins the B&F for Ess, while NM finishes bottom 2 for the 10th consecutive year with Tazzie circling McKercher.

But I’m not worried, Rawlings will identify a stack of 6ft average paced average skilled mids and a few handy half forwards. Not including the immensely talented guys from other clubs he can entice to Arden St. 👊

Don't forget Scott Clayton. Loves his slow 6ft one dimensional players

West Coast in Tassie
Richmond at Marvel
Hawthorn at Marvel
Adelaide in Tassie
Suns at Marvel

Then we pinch one of St.Kilda, Essendon, GCS in Darwin.

Any mix of those actually. don't want to put too much pressure on to win select games.
Love your passion and hope for the rest of the season but unless chairwoman Hood comes out as our off field leader and starts questioning performances and for Clarkson to get his Fu:king C:nt mojo back and starts making statements with ruthless decisions at selection nothing will change but will get worse.
Just start dropping all players not living up to standards and not do what has been happening in the past by making scapegoats decisions which normally that happens.
The supporters are sick of the BS that has taking this club to a place on and off the field that our club the NMFC is now a laughing stock a running joke and disgrace within the AFL community .
Now if the BS continues to happen and we continue to put in putrid performances we will stay where we are for some time and continue to lose support and considering at least %70 of our supporters don’t turn up each week which could get worse where we struggle to get 10k to 15k to home games and be outnumbered by opposition supporters.
But Hay nothing will change unless it this club want it to change but keep the gravy train squad there like Rawlings Clayton the McDonalds Stephensons Corrs and others that come to this club to make a cheap $$$ by going thru the motions.

I'm at the stage I'm not looking forward to watching my team. I approach every game with a degree of hope. I'm just about out of hope. It is getting harder and harder to watch.
It was pretty tough in the late 80s / early 90s as well GK. But when the build started it hit like a hammer. I hope to goodness we get to see that again.

I feel like im only confident against WCE in Hobart & tentatively hopeful against Hawks.

Gold Coast will likely thump us, they are a much more advanced side than us.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. :stern look

Tough in the 60s and early 70s too but I lived through that period. Right now this is as bad a NMFC team as I have seen.

I remember watching the Dees in the early 2010's and thinking how horrible they were.
We are much much worse than they ever were and it looks to continue for some time to come.

At the time we were competitive/mid table and i feel i took even that level of performance for granted.

I was lucky enough to hardly be aware of the early 70s as I'm not an old bugger like you ;)

As for the 60s... Young people like me saw some documtaties about the olden days and yeah, nah... We feel pretty bad about the things they used to have to do back then!!!

It's going to be so great when things do start to improve. I'll never be complacent again about being a feared and dreaded side. We used to be that; hard to believe it now. There was a game at the WACA in early '93 when we beat reigning premiers West Coast at home against the odds, probably the toughest North team I'd seen and that's when the tide had definitely turned. It will happen again.

That would be some multi - 100 to 1 odds to win the first 5 of those games. It would be 500 to 1 if you include Saints or GCS in Darwin as your 6th game.

You could win alot of money if you truly thought we were going to win those games.

Turn it up, that isn't happening.

2020 (17th), 2021 (18th), 2022 (18th), 2023 (17th) & 4 rounds into 2024 (17th) has for the most part been raw hell. We've only won an overall grand total of 12 games since 2020. It's not only the worst North side in history but it's been one of the worst teams over a 4-5 year period of all time. We've made those Melbourne & Carton teams from the 2000s/2010's look half decent, that's how bad it's been.

To make matters worse, the next team after us has won about 27 games over the same period 2020-2024.

Worst most uncompetitive North Melbourne side l've seen in my 60 years of attending.

Loss to Dawks in 2 weeks and Wet Toast over there will confirm it. That will be their G.F. in front of their adoring home crowd.

I don't think we're beating W.C over there. We didn't with their injuries last year and now they have Reid as well.

By my count that makes it 12 wins from 88 games and counting.

Absolutely shameful.

I push my fingers into my eyes
It's the only thing that slowly stops the ache
But it's made of all the things I have to take
Jesus, it never ends, it works it's way inside
If the pain goes on,I'm not gonna make it!
