Is Travis Cloke going to GWS?

From all reports I've heard about Cloke he's a shit bloke his dad loves cash and telling him to get it, let's be honest "I want to start planning for the future" is not travis words it's his dad cos trav simply isn't that smart.

And his dad no longer managing him is just sugar coated for the publics eyes.

His dad is still managing him, what are you rambling about?

Collect $5 notes? hahaha WTF?

Soooo many stupid Collingwood players

Roughly around the same amount at every other team probably considering nearly all of our players came to be Collingwood players the same way West Coast players came to be Eagles...

I'd be watching my own backyard first.

Daniel Kerr is a free agent at the end of the year. Currently on big money at the Eagles and not likely to be offered as good a contract this time around.

He's more likely to leave than Cloke.
meh. Kerr is turning 29 this year, and he is one LTI from retiring. We have had the best out of him. If he left, i dont think youd find too many Eagles supporters that concerned. Cloke is a different matter altogether. In his prime, top 3 best forwards of the comp, with the Pies in a premiership window.

I also think the resigning of Thomas and Pendlebury makes it more likely Cloke will go. Those 2 just took up a big chunk of the salary cap.

Well you thought wrong.

It's been stated before that no Collingwood or Geelong player is on more than about 700k. This is how and why they are able to retain so many of their star players.

So this "chunk" out of the cap is actually not missing because they are paying their players below their real and true market value as opposed to other clubs who aren't as strong on field and need to pay them more in order to retain them.

At the end of the day, Cloke knows that he will have to sacrifice $$$$ in order to stay at Collingwood just like Daisy did.- it doesn't mean he is under-valued or going to be underpaid. He will certainly be in the top earners at Collingwood. How much he will have to sacrifice remains to be seen and is entirely up to him.

The whole "salary cap squeeze" has been blown out of proportion as Collingwood's is no different to anybody else's. We have the capacity to retain our guns and we will retain them all.

I don't know how factual the whole google thing is (someone on the Collingwood board suggested cloke put Barrett up to it), but if it wasn't staged, I'm less than convinced by clokes answer. He was fumbling around for a reason and came up with an absurd excuse.

I do that before the season starts every time there's a team in my competition whom I've never played against.

what you have to remember is that for us as supporters, we are all about club loyalty. If i was good enough, id honestly play for Geelong for a bag of twisties and a can of tarax creamy soda.

It's easy to say that. But if seventeen other clubs were offering you half a million per season to play AFL football, would you still be playing for Geelong for your pack of twisties and can of soft drink? I doubt I would.

As for people assuming Cloke is trying to bleed the Pies for everything they've got, by not blindly signing the first thing they throw in his face, well he has every right to get the best offer he can for himself. I'd sure as hell be doing the same.

Cloke has 2 managers, Ralphy Carr for promotional value (during Cloke's time in footy and after footy).Carr will manage Clokes promotional opportunities and David Cloke looks after his playing contracts.

Cloke has come out and said what he said to drive his price up at Collingwood, and yes he will be paid highly,he deserves it,so do all the other top players at Pieland.

Now,Players play for Premierships and success then Money.

Collingwood is the biggest brand in the league and if your a collingwood player, during your career and after your career,a top player or premiership player can write his own ticket.
Media outlets fall over themselves to employ or to interview or to have as guests any collingwood players, there is so much fascination about the pies.Ask opposition supporters !

Now if your a start up club like GWS and they throw every dollar to have you there, what happens at the end of Cloke's career. No one would be interested in signing him in media .He would considered the guy that just left for the money and ultimately will become the forgotten man.

Cloke didnt employ Ralph Carr to become a GWS player, cos he wouldn't get much interest down here.

So reading between the lines Cloke wants to stay a one club player a magpie for life, but Collinwood has top pay him more $$$$$$.
Lets say 800k per year for 4 years and guaranteed promotional work with various media outlets during and after his footy life will get him well over the 5 mill that GWS would offer.

Plus most importantly Cloke and the rest of the players at collingwood may become dual or triple premiership players and a place in collingwood history..........They can all write their tickets, this would not happen at GWS,in fact in say 10 years GWS may not be around if they don't have success, ask Sydney how hard it is up there.People forget that GWS like most other clubs is propped up with handouts from the AFL,Collingwood is a self sufficient club, and always will be.

Now 2 years ago when Clokey wanted to re sign his contract Essendon came knocking on his door and offered him 500k per year for 4 year's.

He knocked it back.I believe Cloke asked for a three year deal at 550k per year, but Collingwood only gave him two years.Remember though at that time cloke was not as bigger player as he is now.

Now if Collingwood had given Clokey a three year deal he would out of everyones reach and we would not be having this conversation. At the end of next year, collingwood and Cloke would renegotaite and he would have got an increase but not as large as he will get this time around,so yes Clokey will get more money no worries and at Collingwood he will enjoy more premierships and success.

True, expansion teams have historically never won multiple premierships.

Except WCE.
And Adelaide.
And the Brisbane Lions. I think they won a few, anyway.

Missed half the interview but I have to say, if he does go GWS will have a strong forward duo. From the footage I've seen of Patton he wil be a gun and with Cloke there also it will be a very powerful forward line for key targets. Obviously they'll need crumbing forwards but they the key ingrediants are there if Cloke does go.

He did seem to come pretty close to the Ablett / Scully line and the thing where he trys to deflect by saying that the offer has not been received just seemed sketchy.

Don't think I had ever heard Trav talk before and gee was he unimpressive. Fortunatley he is a champion player.

Based on bugger all, I'd bet that he is leaving.

I'm surprised this part of his opening line has been over looked.

"Dad spoke with Geoff Walsh at the football club the other week and he's put an offer to them, we're going to have a chat, we'll work something out. Ideally I'd like to stay a Pie"

with all due respect, that doesnt mean all that much. im sure every player who has gone to one of GWS or GC would rather have stayed at their own clubs, but the money on offer is too good to pass up. no player has shifted for love of one of the new clubs, anyway.

cant imagine why anyone would want to leave an established club to get battered for 2-4 years.

so he has put an offer to collingwood? standard practice, regardless of intent.

ideally he would rather stay at collingwood on GWS money, or ideally he would like to stay a 'pie for substantially less? two ways of reading the above.

could go either way, really, and that statement above is rather non-committal either way.

guess we will know in 8 or 9 months time...

With all due respect, I think you've missed the main point in that quote.

"We're going to have a chat, we'll work something out"

By all means it doesn't mean that he's a lock to stay but it's a good start.

the club and player will chat, and they will work out whether the offer is enough to keep him.

didnt really see that as a statement of intent at all.

im just playing devils advocate, man. i think cloke will stay at collingwood.

..

Depends on if he likes to win or not. If not, sure.. take the money.

pretty much.

but GAJ loves to win, and the money got the better of him.

money is the source of almost all evil in this world. in the words of bob dylan 'money doesnt talk, it swears'.

if the price was right, im sure most players in the AFL would give up winning.

Would nail the premiership window shut if cloke left

No. Collingwood is far from one dimensional, although they are becoming a bit too Cloke conscious. They'd also have to bloody stop bombing it in blindly like they have been lately, and go back to having 13 or 14 regular goalkickers.

I'm not too concerned if Cloke leaves. Pendles or Thomas though. I'd be gutted - they are essential for Collingwood.

But in reality, when it has come to players taking the GC & GWS cash there has been far more players knock back the massive offers and stay, than take the money and run.

Cloke is in contract talks.. suprise suprise he wants to be offered tha maximum possible by collingwood... so with that in mind what he said was very obvious, i want to stay a pie... but its not deffinite (so my price goes up hint hint)... some people really cant see these basics things
