I thought it was because heeney kicked it. Either way it was harsh because people were still playing on in the goal square because they Cleary hadn’t heard the whistle
I was sitting right near there and the whistle you couldn’t hear, it was a late call as well reacting to the crowd.

Macca is a baby and you can't say at this stage of his career that he's not a pack mark
There is enough evidence to say he is….look at JUH, plenty wrote him off incl me and he is now owning f50

I have been saying this for ages. He has a preconceived way he wants players to play. He never changes his plan to fit the talent at hand. He moulds the talent to the plan which doesn't always work. I think if we retain him for much longer we will start to lose players. I think Logan is very unhappy, hence a 1 year extension. If things do not change by the end of next year expect to see Logan go west. he won't be the only one. There are several contracts up for grabs at the end of the season and as yet no movement. Wicks, McLean, Melican, Rankin, McAndrew, Hall-Khan, Gould & Stephens all come up this year. Gould and Stephens will probably be delisted and go back to SA where either Port or crows will pick them up and make good players out of them.
Gulden, Cunningham, Rowbottom, Florent, Fox & Hayward are contracted until the end of 2024. If they do not see a premiership looming we lose the lot, except Errol & Harry.

I think these players important; Wicks, McLean, McAndrew, Gulden, Rowbottom, Florent, Fox, Rankin & Hayward. I want to explore the natural game of each and see if this is the way they are being used.

Hayward; As a junior Will was a one on pone specialist who kicked many goals. He kicked 9 goals in an U18 prelim and 4.1 out of 8 goals. What sort of player was the younger Hayward and why did we draft him? Well, he was a one on one specialist forward pocket/FF. He could take that special mark and if given enough room he could destroy a side, as he proved in the 2016 Prelim. his ability to get free if the other forwards created space was uncanny. His one on one marking skills are superb.

How do we use him? As a defensive forward on players like Nick Haynes. Is this the best use for him? No way. create a little space for him and he kicks a bag. Same with Heeney. are we getting the best out of him? No. I think with the better use he could be an absolute super star. Should stay but if we do not hit a premiership window soon, Crows will come calling

Rankin; He has been playing very well in the reserves but has not been given a chance. Did not look out of place in his first game, in the very few minutes he played. now that lloyd is out it's time to see what Rankin can do before a Victorian team snatches him up. But we need to look at a new contract if he plays a few good AFL games.

Rowbottom; Longmire might just have been told by some of his assistants to stop misusing Rowie as a tagger and let him play footy. Because lately that is exactly what he has been doing. Playing great in and under footy. Should stay.

McLean: He has been used exactly as he should be. He has improved 100 fold. He must be a sponge because all the ruck lessons have been learned well from Coxy. I am now starting to doubt he will stay because he has not signed yet. His management started negotiations in late June.

Melican: I doubt Lewis will be offered a new contract. There don't seem to be any negotiations.

McAndrew; I don't think we can afford to lose him. He needs to get a new contract ASAP.

Gould; What sort of player did we draft? He is a Medium/Tall defender. His style was as an intercept mark and run on player. He kept medium/3rd talls very quiet as well as getting plenty of ball against them and often going all the way from Fb to the goal at the other end with good penetrating run.
how did we play him? As a lockdown defender. He had to learn to do this as he is not a natural lockdown player. he has also had to play taller than he is in the VFl due to an obvious lack of talls. He has played Fullback, definitely not his bnatural position. We have changed the shape of his game so much it is not recognisable from the type he played at Glenelg so successfully. In other words I think we have totally stuffed what may have been a very good talent. He will be delisted and picked up by Port as a Rookie

Hall-Khan; A lively small forward who can kick goals. He burst into the VFL last year. But again, we get a very smart small forward and then stick him on a wing or half back. What? He kicks goals. Leave him forward. Probably be delisted

Stephens; Give him a go in the mids. He is not a bad winger but is having a dog of a second season. But obviously his papers are stamped. He will go back to Adelaide and star for the Crows.

Florent; I still would like to see him moving through the mids. He is so damaging if he gets the tap out on the run. I think with McAndrew's ability to pinpoint taps he could be a huge weapon. Needs a long term contract. Clubs are already sniffing.

Fox; he will play to the end of next year. I prefer him back and Ollie to the mids. Why this was not made to happen on the weekend is mindboggling when we were getting flogged at the clearances. At one stage in the last there were two fast Tigers and three slow Swans. Yuk.

Gulden; Stays. Should be added to the leadership group.

Cunningham; Harry is not having a bad season even if he had a dog of a match against Richmond. His jovb was to keep players far faster than him quiet and was not up to that task. Last contract.

Well summed up ,Horse has his favourite players that cannot do wrong which will cost Sydney some good young players and hurt Sydney in the long run .

Listen mate. Bud is shot. Yes he kicked 2 this week but how many times did his opponent, who was a kid in his first season, get away in defensive run? he has no tank to chase if a player takes off. The other thing is the forward line looks batter without him now. At least we share the ball around. Not with him there. He is the past. Need to move to the future. One more game at the SCG and pull the pin. We used Buddy 54% of the time. If we had used him only 10% he probably would have still kicked 2.1 and other players would have kicked more goals because we took the best option not just Bud. If you can't see that then you have Rose Coloured glasses
I’m not your mate. Stick to patting your feline.

New training facility.
I really do wonder if this is part of it.

Do you work as hard if your facility is saying to you that you are special and already on top?

There is not grit in the facility that reinforces the hungry hard work that is required. Architecture and interior design make a difference.

Put another way, where is the bloods culture in the facility?

Went to the game.

Gone was the team of last week who tried to hit up leading targets.

Our inability to hold a lead/beat a side is disgusting.

The sub choice was disgusting. The fact we had to put our number 1 key back forward to shuffle to make the sub fit was nonsense.

Heads need to roll for what this season is becoming
It we weren’t sure if McCartin was fit enough to play out the game, we shouldn’t have played him. Rushing players back has hurt our backline. Both Rampe and McCartin are way below their best, and worse than the other options we currently have. Give them time to get right in the reserves.

Whats our best win? took me a while but it has to be Carlton??

Should of lost to North.

Wins against Suns, Hawthorn, Richmond, Eagles, North, Carlton.

Absolutely putrid no excuses for this group to have fallen this far
I would have thought beating the Eagles by the 4th biggest winning margin in the history of the game would be the best win of the season.

This is a damning stat. This with the injury toll this year, it makes we wonder what on earth went on over the off season.

We we so fit and so healthy last year. Something must have changed.
Our luck

to be honest it was working until vlastutin kicked his goal.

the midfield was already getting pantsed- maybe there’s an argument that heeney back should have been tried by I don’t get the sense horse trusts heeney back any more
I think Heeney is at his best when he is Mr fix it. Put him wherever the team is struggling and then he can jump in with no personal pressure to help the team out.

He is really good when he goes down back and I personally think he struggles with the pressure of being a full time forward.

Full time goal lock forwards have the most pressure. At the end of the day your value is how many goals you kick. I don’t think this sits well with Heeney. He wants to accountable for being brilliant, not for providing dependable high output. There’s a difference.

I’m afraid that Horse has been getting more rigid with the pressure of the team underperforming, rather than leaning into what helped us turn things around in 2022 - which was enabling players to play to their strengths and express themselves. That’s the missing 5% we have lost this year.

'Another' Thursday night game next week.

No doubt it will be dewy and slippery and we will spend the whole night fumbling and dropping marks.

Can we just ask to be left out of this crappy time next year. Same goes for Friday nights.
Don’t worry, I’m pretty sure Channel 7 would be happy to stop putting up the games we are playing in prime time…

(ironically I think we will be playing scintillating footy next year, but * Channel 7).

Not sure we can put it down to luck. Alot of the players seemed to be enjoying themselves in Europe over the off season . Nothing wrong with that of coarse but did they enjoy themselves too much?

Young team made the gf and a sense of we roll up next year and it will happen again this year. Maybe the work wasn't put in ? Either way I'm hesitant to put it down to luck

There is a possibility the Swans have been ‘instructed’ by the AFL to play Buddy….even if Horse thinks he’s disrupting the game plan.

I think the AFL see a need to ‘maintain the profile’ as its his last year- I just can’t see why Horse would keep picking such an obviously out of form player.
To believe that, you’d have to believe that the spectacle of a superb athlete displaying the rapid decline of his former awesome abilities translates into bums on seats and eyeballs on screens.

time to make a call on Buddy. Love him, but his gravity sucks the ball towards him too much, and for a player well past his prime, it's doing the team no favours. Season gone so whats the need for him apart for bums on seats? Better putting the time into Logan, Amartey, and even Buller, they're the future, let them get some chemistry. Fully expect some blowback on this lol.
