My only thought is that the inside midfield has become a lot more mobile with the additions of Grundy and Heeney for Hickey and Parker and thus have been able to transition the ball smoother and thus Gulden's role when on the inside becomes alot more blurred as he isn't the standout break through the stoppage type player when all the others are in the midfield as well. Probably completely wrong but think its yeah just down to the changing of player characteristics in the midfield itself that has caused that

If we can Mills reasonably match fit and or increase Adams playing time , I think Erroll can be outside that fraction more and it will unlock an even greater level for this team.

You're doing a good job of it , trust me . Bit slow down there today

I dont give a toss about the post numbers, but for someone obsessed with people posting "too much" you sure post a lot

I remember Gulden saying he wanted to hit 100% game time. If he can do that and be on the wing the whole game, it would allow us to rest guys like Heeney and Warner more often for bigger bursts. Particularly if Mills and Adams are involved more too

Rubbish , he's about the same as this time last year , only to go to another level

i have to agree ... i think gulden has been mostly just as effective as last season, but other players have lifted (heeney, warner and even rowbottom are the obvious ones) and gulden doesn't stand out as much, and doesn't need to stand out as much ... and that's a damn good thing for the team

I think it's worth remembering that Daniel Hoyne and the folks at Champion Data have every stat on every player in the competition, and so they could feasibly come to "shocking" conclusions about hundreds of players. They're selective with the ones they choose to go public with, and they've gone with this one because they know that "Errol Gulden = bad for Sydney's midfield" will generate the most attention.

Unfortunately they were correct in that assumption.

FWIW I don't have a problem with Gulden at centre bounces (I did earlier in the year but I've come around to it.) I think we have a midfield that is in the process of gelling. They're breaking even most weeks but are still gonna have their down performances where they are simply well-beaten. For this reason I'd imagine none of our four main mids would have stellar success rates when it comes to centre clearances, so it's not that surprising the worst of those four main mids has the worst in the comp.

They're all getting better though. Some of our midfield work at centre bounces this year is as good as it's been since at least 2016, especially, but hopefully not culminating in, that third quarter against Carlton. So that's the take away for me. Happy to take the good with the bad, so long as we see enough of the good.

And there's always the causality fallacy - the fact that Swans don't do well at clearances when EG is in there, doesn't lead necessarily to Errol = band for Swans clearances. There's a correlation, over to the Swans coaching staff to uncover with there is more to it than that.

5 years since I've been up to the SCG, first time ever for my wife (a Cat's fan hopefully converted after this weekend)

Hopefully weather isn't too bad and is a ripper game from the lads.

Yeah. Not that long but I'm making a guest appearance this week too. Got the last block of four available and taking a Cats couple.

F*** Geelong.
