It's Geelong's flag to lose now

Cats should be favourites, all these Cats fans just dont want to admit it and want less pressure on them.

Fact is, Magpies are playing about 20% less intense than their usual, maybe due to injuries or maybe its a motivation thing.

But Cats in the other hand are FOCUSED on their 3rd flag in 5 years...

I am sick of everyone hopping on bandwagons. Every team is a contender until they are our of the finals.

:thumbsu: Love it. Anything can happen in the game.

That being said, this is what I've learned from the first two finals. Collingwood, Geelong, Hawthorn and West Coast... they're all beatable.

Yeap, Collingwood are the underdogs now. Come on aussies, back the underdogs for the win :) That tall poppy syndrome we suffer from should see us trying to tear down the favourites Geelong.

Actually I disagree - I don't think the break will help them at all.

Considering we have "injury clouds" over a few players, the week off has come at a perfect time to nurse some sore spots and freshen up.

This will be perfect for guys like Maxwell, Reid, Jolly etc which should have them at 100% or close to for the do or die prelim.

I would love to hear how the break wouldn't help us?

Also, considering how "underdone" some of our inclusions were supposed to be all of Maxwell, Shaw and Davis were terrific.

Actually... I wouldn't be surprised to see Geelong go out in the Prelim... They will have to play either:-

Essendon (unlikely to get to the prelim but they've beaten Geelong this year),

Carlton (big chance - 1 very narrow loss to the cats and 1 fairly close match IIRC) or

West Coast (have also beaten Geelong this year).

So you are saying that H&A is the same ball game as finals?

Inane logic there :(

Collingwood lost to Geelong, who lost to Essendon, who lost to Richmond, who lost to Port Adelaide. Therefore, Port is the best team in the comp.

Geelong's current side knows how to handle finals. I wouldn't underestimate their ability to hurt sides like Carlton, Essendon and WC in finals when they arguably smashed Hawthorn's 2011 finals hopes.

It's an interesting one. I don't know if I'd go that far, but it probably wouldn't have been the worst thing for Maxwell and Shaw to get another game under their belts instead of another week off and for Thomas to get two games before the anticipated grand final experience. No doubt the preliminary against Hawthorn/St Kilda/Sydney will be keenly anticipated.

What an absolute load of CRAP!!!

Geelong dominated both games they played the Pies this year, even though the result was a lot closer in game 1. Undersell the Cats all you like, but they will own you GF day.

You? Considering I go for Essendon, your statement is misdirected at best. Geelong won't be playing Essendon.

I'm not underselling the cats at all. To the contrary, I think people are jumping off the Collingwood bandwagon a bit too easily.

After today, there has to be no doubt that Geelong are clearly the best side at the right time of year. If the Eagles skills were a little better today, the Pies wouldn't have won that, a very unimpressive performance. What's everyone else thinking?

spot on, doubt we will see the pies running around on gf day, theres more deserving sides waiting in the wings & as it always does, the worm has turned

pies have got essendon 2001 written all over them

Same story with us. With Taylor (one of our best defenders) under a bit of an injury cloud, even though he played yesterday, and Corey (our best midfielder imo) just recovering from his injury and co., the break could not have come at a better time.

I will assume that WCE will be too good for who ever they play in Perth, but I actually give WCE a real chance against Geelong, so Geelong are not certainties to even make the GF.

Thoughts ?

i cant believe the lack of credit posters on this thread are giving WC, they played really well and had 100 tackles today ffs which is a team that is bloody switched on, pies won purely due to a couple of extra class players on the ground. awesome finals series to date, hope it continues.

It is just amazing how many people naively believed Collingwood to be head and shoulders above the rest heading in to finals.

Collingwood 20 wins
Geelong 19 wins
Hawthorn 18 wins
West Coast 17 wins (Collingwood finished on top last year with 17.5 wins)

Geelong won 19 out of 22 games for the season, have played in the last 50 million prelims + won 2 of the last 4 premierships, and have beaten the other best two sides every time they have played them.

Geelong should be favourites, but any of the top 4 could win it without it being any great shock, and maybe even a side from outside the top 4.

I thought today's game said more about West Coast than it did about Collingwood.

If anything I think this finals race is as open as it gets. Collingwood, Geelong, West Coast, even St. Kilda could have legitimate claims to the flag.

West Coast were brilliant today. Thread completely disrespects their effort and intensity at the contest today. Anyone that thinks Geelong or any other side in the league would've just strolled through that game and come out the other side looking certain premiers has rocks in their head.

I reckon Geelong are favourites on the back of their last couple of weeks, but the race is absolutely wide open. Going to be a cracking finish.

That's true, but the totals of some/all of these teams were skewed somewhat by the amount of truly shit teams in the league this year. The 2010 Eagles probably would have been about 12th-14th on the ladder this year.

The only thing I thought that a lot of them lacked is composure, which is a given for some since its their first final. It wouldn't be surprising if that had improved by next week or the week after.

I was at the game today. Relieved we got the win. And I seriously mean it. We're a bit like Essendon of 2001. I believe injuries and suspensions will take its toll. We should get to a granny and will get beaten by the cats.

I remember thinking the same thing in 09'.

Geelong lost a late season game against WB (who were pathetic against other top 4 sides) & then looked very flat against the Bulldogs in the QF, who had multiple chances to win the game.

Conversely St. Kilda won with ease in the QF & many thought it was their flag to lose. A week is a long time in football, 3 weeks is an eternity.

Apart from YOU in my response, surely you get the drift.

I do, but the ability of some people to jump on and off bandwagons is amazing.

I'll emphasise again- I am NOT underselling Geelong. I just think Collingwood are being written off a little too easily.

It certainly would be a unique situation if Collingwood lost to Geelong in the Grand Final. They would have beaten every team in the competition bar one, yet lost to that one team three times. I'd suggest that'd be a record of some sort.

Do you remember why Geelong was playing the Bulldogs? Because those pathetic Dogs beat Collingwood in Round 22 and took third spot from them...

And Geelong beat the Bulldogs comfortably enough in the QF. They were up by six goals at three quarter time and put the cue in the rack. Never seriously threatened.

You put the cue in the rack at 1/4 time in a game you won by 14 points? WOW.
