Scape Goat I've lost my faith in Ken Hinkley Part 2

It does seem that a lot of our prized senior players attribute their being at the club to Hinkley. It’s actually quite disturbing in a lot of ways.

Yes! It's akin to the bratty under-performing kids at school who "love" Teacher X because they know they can get away with murder in his class and never have to do any work.

I used to have a year 9 drama teacher who let us sit around and play games for the whole lesson. Of course we loved her and always looked forward to her class, but that doesn't mean she could teach for shit.

It's all very well to have a friendly coach-player relationship, but at the end of the day the coach needs to be ruthless and committed to winning, and that means being able to make frequent tough calls without letting emotion or sentimentality play a role. Does anyone seriously think Ken could make the tough calls on 'Boaky, Paddy, Jakey and Sammy', if need be? Bloody hell Clarkson traded out Hodge, Mitchell and Lewis with barely a blink of an eye! There's no way Hinkley could be that ruthless.

Who's offering Ratten a senior job at the moment? No one as far as I know, and secondly I frankly don't care for Bassett or Hinkley's feelings right now, get someone in from a successful program, which Hawthorn are, and oversee what we are doing wrong. Wouldn't hurt

Big rumour that he might get the Saints job

Yeah, you shouldn't like your boss that much.

Could get awkward if Ken were pushed out with Ollie saying he agreed to re sign because Ken was the coach.

This sort of stuff re-enforces the diabolical position this club is in. With dynamics like this we are completely stuffed and tells me we need a bomb placed at the center of this club and a brand new start.
What a joke.

Its worth remembering that Boak didnt want Primus to be turfed either.

Firstly, why would Ratten take a great leap sideways? Yes I’m being polite in not calling it a “demotion”, there’s enough weirdposting on this thread already.

Secondly, would Ken actually tolerate an assistant-in-waiting?

Thirdly, would Bassett tolerate *another* assistant-in-waiting jumping him in the queue?

If Kenny and Bass dont like it tough.

You get what you deserve.

HTFU or leave.

Good on Caro for calling out the possibility of tension between Koch and Kern, she usually isn't that far off the money, so there may be some truth to her comment, BUT I assume Kern doesn't start his 3 year extension until pre-season for 2019, so the chances of him signing anything with a KPI that could have seen him getting the lemonade and sars before his new contract commenced would in my opinion be virtually non existent.

I would be feeling a little more confident the hierarchy had its finger on the pulse of any potential disenchantment and loss of members, if Voss hadn't been given what at face value appears to be another un-necessary extension, which unfortunately at least suggests the head honchos of the club have lost touch with the membership base and are still gargling on recycled bath water from 2014. :(

Below is the reality.

I remember you way back from the other forum site. Yes you have been a supporter for decades. I remember the morning that Primus was dismissed as the coach. Rumours of it began to be heard early that morning and you were posting manically that none of it was true giving some reason that you had inside knowledge but within a couple of hours the news of it broke.

In the weeks leading up to the dismissal when supporters were calling for change under Primus and Duncanson's board you were backing all at the club to remain in their roles. You were proclaiming it wasn't their fault and backing the status quo whilst the club was in a dire situation. You were manically posting and advocating to keep the same people in charge.

It is astonishing that you're backing the status quo again.

Remember way back???
I have never said at anytime i have inside news of anything.
That is incorrect memory

Yes i supported primus while he was there still thought that his skill set needed a lot of development for the job of head coach.

Yes i am backing going with what we have at the coaching level re perceived skill set which is imo satisfactory

LMAO there will not be a performance clause to void Hinkley's contract. No coach in his right might would sign that.

KT and DK shat the bed and were begging Ken to stay. Ken had his bags packed, no freaking way he's signing a performance based contract. He wanted 3 years and more money and DK handed over the cheque book.

Sure he might have had bonuses attached for performance but that would be it.

My suspicion is we'll go out with a whimper this year followed by a chorus of "Charlie n' Paddy will be fine after a good summer, we'll work harder" etc. & Kochy's "pressure" will be little more than a slap with a fairy duster.. Bring on the long winded stammering explanation/excuse laden dribble by Keefy on various media outlets thrown in for good measure.

2014
Good season, the only way is up now, with Ryder!

2015
Ok, so we failed to deliver a bit there, but strong finish to the year show's we'll be right back in it, especially with Dixon!

2016
Ok, huge loss with Ryder and Monfries suspended. Definitely underachieved, but it was bad planning more than anything else, that's behind us now and finally getting to see Charlie and Paddy together!

2017
Ok, looks like the retirements of bookends Schulz and Carlile hurt a bit more than expected, and Aaron Young (!) failed to back up a big 2016, but with more games in to a young defense and some huge signings to boost the attack again, there's no way we won't be featuring at the pointy end!

2018... tba

It's complete and utter mismanagement.

On this...

I think the Primus was a ruthless moment. He had a shit list, abysmal resources, and zero exposure. He had the list showing signs of improvement and development. We got rid of him with plenty of time to spare in the season because he didn't appear up to it in the long term. Right decision, easy decision, but a ruthless one, and we must have went in to it with that in mind, seeing it was a contract with clauses.

Not neccisaarily, if the clause that voided his contract is somthing he thought achievable he’d sign it becouse if the $$$ attached, saying no to such a clause is a red flag for the club becouse it says to them he thinks it may not happen.

In fairness, the Hawks didn't cut any of those guys, they all chose to leave. And Hawthorn got the combined return of a third rounder and some meaningless late picks on all three of them. Losing Hodge, Mitchell and Lewis really wasn't the act of list management genius that posters on here act like it was.

They'd also propelled the club to 4 premierships and were at the end of an era.

How good is footy, eh!!!?

TBH I have a pretty quiet existence and in general I'm pretty introverted

Footy is my outlet, my release, my Mr Hyde to my Dr Jekyll

I love it when we win, I love melt days, I love wallowing in the depression of a loss, I love the promise of next week, I love the fluidity of club management and player movements, I love screaming at the umps and booing the oppo, I love getting angry when we find ourselves in situations like these

Even when it's not so good footy is OK with me

Whatever happens will happen
