Scape Goat I've lost my faith in Ken Hinkley Part 2

A week or so ago I suggested that Kern is our Neil Craig.
I was WRONG, Kern is our Robert Shaw. :(
I have always likened Hinkley more to Sanderson as they followed a similar path with early success, but we sacked Sando & Port extended Hinkley another 3 years.

Can you find a role for Burton as we could swap him for Hinkley who would be a better Footy Operations Manager...

Sanderson was, too.

Apart from the obvious issue that we don't have a bottomless pit of money to pay him out and hire a suitable replacement, there's no sign from the hierarchy they recognise there's even a problem.

Koch and Thomas and whoever else on the board believe the sun shines out of his nestlé nook.

Any discontent that has temporarily come out of the club has been from Koch putting it squarely on the players, with any whisper that he might be unhappy with Ken being met with a media firestorm backing Hinkley ("one of them has to go" - Patrick Smith, 2017).

You could be on the money here.
It would explain drafting in mass experience last year...Rockliff, Trengove, Watts and Motlop to meet ‘criteria’ / based on ‘winning a final or making a prelim’.
Eff off nut job. How's Gibbs and Gibson working out for you?

Yeah there's truth to that. We had Trigg and Chapman at the helm, both who were responsible for Sanderson's inexplicable contract extension, but by the end of '14 Trigg was already on his way out and didn't care, and Chapman will do whatever the alphas want. Ricciuto's addition to the Board was purely to give the members a palatable reason to sack Sanderson after a scathing internal review.

If you want Hinkley out it won't be led by Koch or KT. You'll need a public, popular Port face to lead it.

Anyway, that's my 2c. Cheers.

Re Sando, was there any truth in the rumour your board thought he only had one year to go when they decided to pay him out, but unbeknown to them Trigg had given him an extra year?

Edit
I obviously didn't see the pj post above

Trigg extended Sando because of Tippett-gate, rather than based on actual performance.

I believe the Crows negotiated a reduced payout for Sando based on things which happened behind the scenes.

You're delusional if you think ill make a money bet (on the internet, with someone i don't know) about the same people who gave this muppet a contact extension making a logical decision.....

It may not be a "termination clause" maybe more accurate to say you need to achieve X (say a finals win) for you're extension to come into effect... which given our list and what he's being paid is a very small ask.

There could and should be performance based clauses in the contract. Schnitzelfest can be a bit of a know it all in these parts.

Might be a weird thing to say but I’m glad we lost today. Hopefully now the club hierarchy can have a good hard look at the coaching group after a wasted year instead of us making it to finals and coming up with excuses as to why we didn’t progress further.
Changes need to be made

Your club has always been in a better financial situation than ours plus there were other mitigating factors with Sando that gave your club an out. We are still beholding to the AFL and they have said since Sando’s sacking that they won’t look lightly on that sort of thing in the future. Our club have extended Ken’s contract and we are stuck.

Hopefully they're reading this board and taking it on board. I think the views expressed here a far more representative of the thinking of the clubs rank and file members than the kool-aid drinkers of facebook.

They should have held off on re-signing Voss, that’s for sure.
Still The Richmond supporters wanted Hardwick sacked and the Wobble supporters wanted their coach sacked yet they stayed and the clubs turned around.
It is my only very faint hope that somehow our coaching group get their act together.
Wish we had kept G Hocking.

Would you like to take the $100 to $10 bet that he'll be our coach next year?

• Eade was sacked for Roos
• Sanderson was sacked for Pyke
• Northey was sacked for Matthews
• Shaw was sacked for Malthouse
• Thomas was sacked for Lyon
• Harvey was sacked for Lyon
• Schwab was sacked for Clarkson
• Balme was sacked for Daniher
• Schimmelbusch was sacked for Pagan
• Judge was sacked for Worsfold
• McCartney was sacked for Beveridge

All above examples resulted in Grand Finals/Premierships in short order.

Now nothing is guaranteed going forward, but clinging to the Hardwick/Buckley narrative is an awfully long bow that excludes alternative outcomes.

The Facebook members are poison. I suggested the club needed a clean out off field, and I've been receiving derp in return such as:

- I should do the job if I'm unhappy with the club.
- It's the players' fault (yes it is partially).
- We should be grateful to Hinkley because things were so much worse before he was at the club.

I mean, if these are the people the club is listening to, the club may as well re-brand to the 'Southern Power' because it sure as shit doesn't deserve the Port Adelaide name.

There must have been more Sturt supporters jump on board post-1997 than I thought...

I don’t believe that but I think the game plan stinks for the players we have.
The players know the game plan stinks & therefore not executing = players not playing for Ken or Kens lost the playing group take your pick. A poster a week or so back wrote there’s some unrest with some players cause Ken giving out gold passes. Where there’s smoke. We’ll find out soon enough. I don’t believe the PAFC will stand for this & will want answers as us supporters do !!

He’s a certainty, so no, however I’ll bet you $100 there are performance based clauses in his contracts.

There may well be, but there certainly won't be anything that allows us to sack him with no payout because we narrowly missed the finals this year, which was my argument the whole time.
