NZ's restrictions continued well into 2022 whereas many countries such as the UK dropped theirs in mid 2021. The vaccines clearly didn't prevent infection or transmission which renders a Covid-zero policy ineffective. It's likely that Ardern dropped her Covid-zero policy due to falling poll numbers rather than a health decision.

Then there's her other policy failures.

Food prices in December 2022 were 11.3 per cent higher than a year earlier, with fruit and vegetable prices increasing 23 per cent year-on-year. The biggest annual food price increase in 32 years.

Both Treasury and the Reserve Bank are forecasting a recession this year.

Ardern did nothing to ease the housing crisis. She came into office with a promise to build 100,000 homes within a decade. The program became an embarrassing failure, delivering only 1,000 homes in its first five years.

Despite her appointing herself minister for child poverty reduction the result was an 18,000 additional children being pushed into poverty.
