Jacinta Allan - Leading a zombie government

The labor government should be right for the picking. Been in power for 12+ years by the time the next election goes around and do seem to have a bit of policy fatigue.

The libs would get her if they could organise themselves next election but either way i think eventually they will have their bite at the cherry in 2030.

Will be interesting to see how Jacinta pivots now the big build projects are finishing and obtaining funding doesn't seem to be as easy moving forward

Buyer beware

Funny thing is the previous wave of dog box apartments….lsignificant numbers of them are empty

It's not due to workmanship.

It's due to material compliance, most of these products were legal to use.

In some instances, are still legal to use.

It's also a worldwide problem by the way and not solely related to high rises. A big % of industrial facilities in Australia will get reclad because of this issue.

In fact, so should most new houses in Australia (which are by far the most dangerous and least regulated) . But residential is categorized different to commercial class buildings.

It's not to dissimilar to the asbestos issue of the 80's regarding a compliant product having further testing and investigation, being deemed not fit for purpose or dangerous in subsequent years.

it's due to absolute shithouse design more than anything.

102 executives employed on SRL out of 650 staff
That seems to be a growing problem at all levels of government. They always complain about excessive execs but as soon as they get power they create more. A recently retired band 3 in one federal department summed it up well when he acknowledged the massive morale, recruiting and retention problems and said the new review will probably create an extra band 3 to manage it as there is no problem the government doesn't think can't be solved or be messaged as solved by creating a new hierarchy. Sure enough, new Band 3 created and things actually getting worse....

rules for thee not me
he minister responsible for forcing high rise developments into Melbourne’s suburbs previously opposed a series of housing projects in her own electorate because they were inconsistent with “neighbourhood character”.
Planning Minister Sonya Kilkenny’s years-long track record opposing high density development in her own backyard has been revealed.

Despite pushing for apartment towers of up to 20 storeys in suburbs such as Brighton, Malvern and Ringwood, the long-time member for the outer southeastern seat of Carrum previously opposed developments — some just three storeys high — in her own area.

In a 2021 Facebook post, Ms Kilkenny can be seen giving a thumbs down as she stands in front of a proposed residential development site in Seaford, opposing a plan for 14 extra homes because it was “inconsistent with neighbourhood character”.

Why is it that every single MP is gung-ho about development in every other suburb but their own?

Seaford is ripe for development. Been following it for over a decade.

You’d thing a change of party in government might stop at least some of the billions spent on private consultancy firms.

Qld is not a good leader in this space.

100 days to re examin e the Olympic Games arrangements. No doubt an army of consultants to re examine. The sme shit over and over.

Will they even find one thing which wasnt previously found?

I wonder if the message is sinking in for Jacinta.

Thousands of Victorians who own a second property have unpaid land tax bills more than 12 months overdue, and the government doesn’t have the resources to chase these unpaid bills. What a typical **** up. The Allen government is going to have to spend millions in administration and legal fees to chase millions owed.

Meanwhile with the new death tax, if a spouse dies and the couple jointly owned the assets (house, superannuation) the surviving spouse is going to have to pay death tax upfront to continue living in his own home.

What next, an annual land tax on your residence sneakily called a “high density infrastructure levy”?

Land tax is making people sell up thier investment properties.

The death tax is disgusting and not even targeted at high value estates, everyone gets screwed royally by it.

Glad it wasn’t in any earlier. The worst part is not every estate has any money to pay unless you plan on selling the home and even that takes a while. But the cost of funerals has skyrocketed leaving nothing for the government’s ridiculous fees.

But nobody is buying! There are hundreds of properties for sale on the Peninsula. They are mostly not the type of place a first home buyer is looking for or can afford.

More housing stock = prices go down.

The land tax is working as intended

Sheer false economy. Not everyone will buy a house. Rental stocks have declined by 22,000 in VIC in 2024, and population has increased by 200,000 in same period. And the number of new houses started is at the lowest in a decade.

All of this of course is irrelevant to what I posted earlier. Thousands of land tax bills collectively worth millions overdue by more than 12 months and the government doesn’t have the resources to enforce the collection.

How many were short term rentals?
