Money. If they wanted the millions of state government money , they needed a reason to spend it.
So they said the stand was beyond repair and that they would replace it with community rooms, that's how they got the money.

I can’t even comprehend this post. It makes zero sense. The nefarious Peggy and Benny went to the state government to get money for the community and the club by proposing to demolish Jack Dyer stand because Dan hates Jack Dyer?

This conspiracy is akin to flat earth, the UN doesn’t want us to really know the earth is flat because reasons.

At least Q is protecting the people from cannibalistic pedophiles.

See this photo, it was taken in 1917 in front of the stand. It has my grandfather in it so I understand the history heartache but if we can expand and stay at Punt rd I can accept the stand coming down. The RFC at Punt rd is more important IMO

What a great shot, especially with the War poster on the side of the stand.

I'm like most, when I just give a rubber stamp to anything this "team" wants to do, that brought me 3 premierships I never expected to see, and so much joy, and have based much of it on my most favourite thing in the world...the present moment.
And I really love Brendon Gale especially...talk about putting your rooster on the block.
However, I also see them as they are.
Like probably every other afl club now, the preserve of the "haves", taking from the poor. to give to the rich, all the while convincing the poor they are their saviours, and not those crazy corrupt socialist b@st@rds.
If this was a grand designs episode, then some crazy couple, probably same sex, or soon to be, would take this existing grand stand, preserve all the history, achieve all the future needs too, and do it in 3 times the schedule, 4 times the budget, with 5 maxed out credit cards, all while holding down full time jobs, and raising 2.5 kids...and it would look GREAT too.
But the "haves" don't want to do that. Can't be farked. And they know they have the clutch hand.
Despite all their BS, they could easily do both, but they just don't want to...intoxicated by their own success...our next GR moment perhaps.
It reminds me yet again...of the 2016 revolution that never was...when the process worked...and they retained control...and went on to win the premiership.
Which should have been enough...but when is it ever enough for the "haves"?...we all know the answer to that...or should.
So their response was to make it that much harder for anyone else to ever challenge the board...such is the nature of the haves...and in so doing...have sowed the seeds of their/our own destruction.
Amen.

Interesting line you're taking of 'what is history'.
History is for example a 110 year old grandstand that has been culturally significant that whole time. It was the center of Melbourne's entertainment of the public during WW2, it has been a constant landmark seen ftom punt rd that whole time. It is also architectually significant. It is one of the very few examples still around from that time.
The club has been too devious for my liking...how long ago was it that the club was looking for donations (Buy a Brick) to renovate the stand...what happened to that money? Since then the club has used a far too common property developers ploy in regard to old buildings... dont maintenance them, dont spending- just let them deteriorate until they gets to the stage where its not financial to repair it (with the money supporters donated to do just that) Its a cynical exercise in empire building and from what I read, none of the rationales behind this ham-fisted decision stack up, or cant be gotten around. I agree the new proposal looks great, but I'm sure a similarly clever rendering of an image of a re-purposed and restored stand would look even more stunning. Its an asset; an iconic asset to the club and the community and has been for over a hundred years. I vote we keep it.

That's a load of crap, I'm extremist ? gmab.
You know that the stand is historically significant but your trying to justify it by saying the new stand is history as well, or something like that.
Your main argument is that progress is always the best way regardless of the history you lose which is wrong as well.
We all know it's about money and sponsors and the club couldn't be stuffed restoring the stand as it may cost something.
You do understand that no sponsors equals no club?

Yeah that's fine but why s**t on history and laugh about it.
Not shitting on history at all, but progress waits for nobody and the longer we wait the more likely it is that we start to fall behind other clubs, who are either already using upgraded facilities or already in the middle of building them.

It was never demolish the stand or move. That was just said to save money so they wouldn't have to restore it.
They're building rooms for AFLW , fencing sports and other things that could be housed elsewhere.
We're one club why should the women be based elsewhere?

As for the other facilities they are going to be used by the local community and surrounding areas, which is a way for Richmond to engage with new supporters possibly and also develop more relationships with other groups.

But let's scrap all that so we can look at an oversized possum home because that's about all that it will be good for.

And don't forget, keep training on a ground that is smaller than the one we play most games at

I'm all for a ceremonial night time burning. We can all line up along the Punt Rd fence to see it off and pay our respects

What a cool way to send it off. Cost efficient too
should we wear white hoods and robes

I
I'd be interested in some of that old timber, would be solid stuff. I'd build a verandah. Seats too.
if any campaigner owns a farm, should set up the entire jack dyer stand at the farm and use it as a possum sanctuary

What is your suggestion for keeping the stand and also increasing the playing surface at PRO, I'm all ears
Don’t get him started he’ll bang on with his pipe dream of extending the ground on Brunton avenue

Building over Brunton Ave and redeveloping Richmond station is a govt project. They should do it, turn the whole area into a sport/bar/cafe precinct. The new Punt Road oval development would fit in seamlessly.
